    Re: Squee's Workbench

The mitsudomoe symbol in the middle is supposed to be orange. I am waiting for the red to fully cure before i mask that. Then the outer shell goes over it. If you look at the middle pic, the part behind the wood is the part with the mitsudomoe and red detail. Just not painted yet. I already sprayed my armor color on the edges so that when i glue its already there. I do this all the time. I'll just sand it down and repaint that area. Its easier than masking all those symbols.

Not glued yet, but orange is painted!

    Re: Squee's Workbench

Everyone is freaking out about the site when there has been no information as to it shutting down lol

Did some pinning on the Rectioneter. I ran out of brass rods, i need to order more.

I took it to work tonight, going to be sanding/fixing anything i can see until i buy some new rods for pinning.

This might be a silly question, but do the pins have to be "Brass". I was just wondering if, to save money and time. Couldn't you use a coat hanger or something like that and just cut pieces to the length you need and use that. Or is it a size thing. I have yet to do a full resin kit, just upgrade parts, but when I needed to pin a part I just used a thick paperclip cut to size.

No they don't have to be brass. I've used many types of metal including hangars. They're pretty much the perfect strength and gauge/diameter rods. Brass is nice to use as its both soft, yet strong. I would suggest, after you cut your rods, and do test fitting, take your cutters and make some score lines in the rod so that when it goes in, it grips. I usually use either 2 part epoxy, or CA glue to keep parts together. Put some on the pin, push it in and let it cure. This is only after you're sure you don't need to take the parts apart.

@Vile, smooth paint, for me is all about prep work and keeping it clean between. Like for that shield, i primed it, did checks for errors, like ejection marks/dips in plastic, scratches etc. I fix these, then prime again with Mr. Surfacer 1200. I lightly sand this down with an old sanding sponge, roughly 1000 grit. Then i spray my colors. If i see any kind of dust, moisture spluttering, etc, i will wait for it do dry and lightly sand it down. Spray that section again, then blend it together.

It's alot of extra work, but i think my work speaks for itself. *I hate boasting haha

Its something i've picked up from competing at shows, and with FiveStarStories kits. If your finish isn't as good as you can get it, you lose points, or it becomes an ugly eye sore.

Got it mostly pinned. Only parts left are the cables, but i might be changing them out for some other tubing/metal parts. While i had it together i hit it with some Mr. Resin Primer Surfacer. Now i will have a better idea of what won't show once its all permanently together.

Also someone on Fb called it a nice small kit... So i took this pic. He's a big boy lol

    Re: Squee's Workbench

Last night i started doing a reverse wash for the under armor detail on the black knight. Finished it painting and cleaning up tonight. I figure, this should be easier than masking... Never again. I'm sticking to masking from now on. This was so messy and tedious.

Totally used up all my pointed swabs lol

    Re: Squee's Workbench

I have some more cotton swabs in the mail that should be here today. I painted up most of the frame parts yesterday. The cardboard holder has parts that need touching up.

And some fitting for "leg day." I really need to paint up some of the red parts so i can seal these parts together.

Awesome looking results as always man. I know you've told us before, but what is that Blue/Black paint?

Its Mr. Color GX Metallic Black, mixed with what appears to be Mr. GX Metallic Blue. I'm pretty sure i added pure black to my blue for another project. I forget what it was, but i found a huge bottle of it mixed so i used it. After which i spray Mr. Crystal Color Sapphire for a pearl tint. These parts are slightly dulled, so the pearl isn't as prominent as it originally was. I went over everything with polishing compound to make sure all of the enamel steel i sprayed was removed. I need to give these another misting of pearl and then some nice gloss.

Lazy Sunday snap. Going to most likely use this for parts.
