Was wondering if this would work out or not.

Before going out and buying the spray cans, I would like to know if this would work. For the HG Kshatriya that I plan on painting, I want to give my Kshatriya a metallic finish. The Krylon X-Metal can states to use the basecoat converter before spraying on the X-Metal paint. My local Walmart doesn't carry any basecoat converter, but carries various Krylon Brushed Metallic spray cans. Now here's my question. Would a chrome metallic spray work as a good subtitute for the basecoat converter?

    Any help would be appreciated.

I worked at Hobby Lobby and managed the department that sold Krylon spray paint. We stopped carrying the X-Metals (at least at the store I worked at) because they just didn't sell. Basically all they are is a clear color paint used to go over a metal surface or a surface that has been chromed. So the brushed metal look is what you will get, but tinted whatever color your X Metals is. They work if that's the effect you're going for, but don't expect chrome finish.

    Oh, really? That's unfortunate.

So I guess I'll stick with traditional indoor/outdoor Krylon spray cans then.

    Thanks Joe.

Yeah, honestly, it's very disappointing. And the packaging is a little misleading unless you read ALL the fine print on the directions. You think you're going to get a really cool metallic or chrome look and no, nothing of the sort. Sorry to burst your bubble, but I'm glad you asked before buying the cans.

I'm glad to know that before making a foolish purchase and needing to get different paint.

Guess I'll stick with my gloss top coat to give Kshatriya her glistening sheen.
