How much do you take your kits apart to paint?

So this may belong in the painting thread so I apologize if this is the wrong place.

When I was hand painting my kits I would paint each piece individually and then assemble.. this would leave a lot of panel lines and such. Once I realized that I started painting inner frames (where applicable) and then putting the other parts one, fixing seams, and then painting the other parts.

I just recently started airbrushing (working on a kit right now), but I feel like i am wasting a lot of paint/time by individually spraying each part and then putting it back together... I know the kit I am working on now has very few seam lines but there are some that I'd like to fix.

So my question is how much do you dissemble? Do you do like I said above and do the inner frame and then put armor on and fix everything then mask and paint? This also seems heavy for normal alligator clips.

Or am I just over thinking this and everyone just takes everything apart and re-assembles

I individually paint all parts so I do end up with seam lines. I usually smooth the edges where parts join so the seam looks more like a feature or panel line and less like a join. If there are a couple of parts that can be joined and left joined then I may glue and sand back to remove the join.

For me it is a bit of both. It really depends on the part and ware it goes. A stand alone piece of armor all by itself. A leg or arm that is in two parts but should be one, I glue it together sand and mask then paint it in place. So it just really depends on the part and placement.

Thanks guys, yeah I decided that since most of my kit hides the panel lines anyway, i'd just take it all apart.
