Question What are your thoughts on Mechanicore kits

Before I ask, I would like to express my thoughts:

From what I know of Mechanicore (机甲之城) kits, they tend to have rather complex builds, be rather large, and have copious amounts of sculpted detail, especially due to their stylized representations of whatever mobile suit they make into a model. However, hardly anyone has made video reviewed them, and even with how few they were, only one of them seem to show off the range of articulation they have (said video is linked below).

More over, I could barely find a single Mechanicore kit for under $250 plus shipping. In fact, I have never built a Mechanicore kit myself.

    So, I have to ask:

Regardless of if you have built any, or base your opinion on what you have looked up online, what are your thoughts on Mechanicore kits.

Re: What are your thoughts on Mechanicore kits

I will find the thread on here, but I’m building one right now (check out by blog linked below) and “Jackofspades” is building the same and he has a you tube channel with his build.
A Mechanicore kit is not for the weak of heart! They all have major fitment issues and the wiring for the LEDs will need work. But all that aside once you get it going they are really cool kits. As for articulation, mine is OK but I’m building the Tiefsturmer (basically the Deep Strike)so the only thing that would actually move are the arms and head and they are rather good.
And yes they are all big $$ mine is out of run now, so you won’t find a Tiefsturmer for less than $500 to $600. Glad I got it with a preorder on the first run.

In other words, do Mechanicore kits make Perfect Grades look like HGUCs by comparison?

But at least you are having an easier time with the Tiefsturmer than with the High Grade Meteor Unit.

Re: What are your thoughts on Mechanicore kits

By no stretch of the imagination do Mechanicore make a PG kit look like a Hg. It’s two completely different things. The main problem with Mechanicore is poor quality molding, IE lots of flash and everything needs clean up, and the directions are a bit confusing.

But ya it is going much better than the Meteor unit. Well so far.
But the ability to do custom work is a bit easier, seeing as you already have to work each part. And the details are great, there is so much of it, the down side about 70%will never be seen. They get cover edit by the rest of the kit.

For a build speed comparisons. My PG GP01 went together in about 2or 3 days for the first “snap build”. Then I started to paint it, so far I have only done the first layer of the frame. All told about 1 week in to it. As for the Tiefsturmer took about 2 weeks and half a roll of tape to hold it together for just the first “Snap build” and I have been working on it for about 2 hours a night or so and it has been about 3 weeks and I’m almost ready for some of the frame to start painting.

So parts wise they are about the same. Prep work and fitment wise the PG blows the Mechanicore out of the water. If you are able to get one (and if you can I say go for it) just be ready for a lot of prep work.

Good points there, I just hope Mechanicore gets better with the molding quality and instructions in future releases. But for now, best way to find out how Mechanicore can improve is by spreading the word to those who are up for the challenge.

BTW maybe someday ZakuAurelius will review one of the Mechanicore kits he unboxed, unless he gave away some of them. The most recent example of ZakuAurelius' Mechanicore unboxing is embedded below.

I know 3 people who are building that kit right now. Two have the solid, 1 has the clear. It is a love, Hate HATE relationship. Apparently that one is exceptionally bad. But like all of these kits once you get past the crap involved they turn out really nice. But this one has cost some people bloody fingers, not joking.

We off-tend wonder if anyone at Mechanicore has ever actually built one of these kits. If you co to their site, there are no pictures of built kits just computer images of the plans. Also finding built ones other than OOB on line can be a chore as well.

Good point there, however, I have found aditional results by highlighting the Chinese text 机甲之城 (Translate to Mechanicore), Hold command/control and press C; In google, I held command and pressed P in order to insert 机甲之城 into the dialog box for Google. As a result, I got a wealth of Chinese language results. In fact, there was a BiliBili (which is essentially a Chinese Youtube) video reviewing the Mechanicore Zeong.

    https://www.bilibili.com/video/av17796131/

There are also pictorial reviews from Gigcasa of various Mechanicore kits, Just copy "gigcasa 机甲之城" and past it into google.

    Update:

Once Mechanicore solves their molding quality problem, they should reissue at least one of their earlier kits, all be it with not much more flash than a Bandai Kit, and a better instruction manual.

That would be sweet! And think about it we could ride a unicorn to work, and fly out of town on a pig as well seeing as they would be able to fly now......LOL

Hay Gundamonkey, do you know if anyone else on these forums is skilled enough to build a Mechanicore Kit?

Jakofspades is building one, if you look way back in the WIP thread you will find his build and the link to his You Tube on the build. I will have to look up his name, but there is a guy in Australia building one as well.

Here is the guy from Australia's thread. But unfortunately I have not seen him on here in a while and his pictures were stolen back by that evil beast Photo bucket.

Thanks Monkey, now i'm curious what would happen if Super Moderator Squee tried one himself?

What do you think is the easiest part of a Mechanicore kit, fitting the pieces together, or the LED units?

Re: What are your thoughts on Mechanicore kits

The LEDs, I had to re solder one and splice one wire together and that was it. One very small wire got cut by accident when I was test fitting a part and it got caught in a peg hole, so that was my fault. But even then once you get a handle on the parts and how they go together it gets really easy, just time consuming.
I got a bit of work done this week and will up date my pictures this weekend, but it is just slow, not hard.

Re: What are your thoughts on Mechanicore kits

I wish they would release a kit that i actually found appealing. They look terrible to me, and i'm not talking about the building problems. Ugly angles and proportions throughout. Its a shame they didn't stick to copying resin kits like when they were called Elyn, at least that way i could get a plastic version of a nice resin kit.
