    Interested in storage/display in one?

I'm currently working on a project to make a container system that stores gunpla with a draw for the accessories. it would be for 1/144 scale models and has in built stands that connect to the lid and storage for all the tools to construct gunpla. I was wondering if anyone could give any thoughts on whether they like the idea of a compact storage box which also functions as a work zone and a display?

I'm kinda new to the craze of Gunpla (built 4 within 1.5 months), but I built my first two kits about 10 years ago. I think your idea has heart, but not merit. The reason I say this is because most seasoned modelers (as well as ANY seasoned [FILL IN THE BLANK]) already have their workspace the way they want it, and wouldn't want a proprietary system designed for ONE thing. I like the notion of incorporating the accessories into your idea but it still seems extremely niche, unless that's your demographic. If that's the case then more power to you Do you have any prototypes to show off?

You should look at the Hobbyzone modular sets for ideas. They make ones for storage as well as this one for displaying the model you're working on.

Holy Crap that stuff is expensive! I'm in the wrong line of work. Half of those things I already made for myself and my Dad for his paints. I mean it is just quarter inch plywood and a decent work shop, router, table saws and what not. But they do have nice dovetails on the boxes.

Well these are laser cut. You can buy them cheaper elsewhere but they are pretty nice. I do agree on the thin boards. I have a brush/tool holder, and putting any kind of weight on it and it bows.

Ya I made one for my Dad out of 1/4 inch plywood. I tried with thinner stuff but like you said any kind of real use and they will fall apart. I used wood glue and dovetailed the edges so his is sturdy. As for making holes I just used a lot of measurements and a drill press with a hole punch drill bit. Same effect just done by hand and a good ruler. But most of my tools have laser guides on them so I really know my cuts are straight and level.
