    Question Removing paint from model?

Should I use X20 Tamiya thinner or 90% rubbing alcohol to clean excess paint from gundam marker?

Honestly maybe neither. I've had alcohol crack some parts. I would try maybe 50% alcohol first.

I'd try lighter fluid first then 50% alcohol.

I'm not going to recommend alcohol. It absorbs the oils out of plastics and will cause them to crack. I've seen a youtuber use bleach water and a 24 hours soak with a light brush off. No experience with that though. Just know that alcohol will eat the oils out of the plastics. We use it at my work for cleaning out nitrogen vessels and co2 vessels that have been contaminated with oils. Any plastics it gets on (unless they are rated for such) end up cracking.

Well hell learn something new everyday. But I don't know what plastic the people at mechanicore use, but to get the chrome platting off of the parts I ended up with a mix of purple power/ (non-ammonia) Windex, and 91% alcohol. Then I had let the parts soak for up to 48 hours and even then the chrome was a b***H to fully get off. But the plastic is fine. The alcohol had no effect on it. But I will watch my other kits for that.

And it could be that the plastic is okay for it. Just depends what plastic it is. Acrylics it will disintegrate and ABS it will eat slowly. Just be wary of the types of plastics you use it on.

Yes when I use Vallejo and I need it off, I just dip it in alcohol and the Vallejo just seems to fall off. I did drop a poly cap in my cup of 91% alcohol once and did not know it. Well it was a lump of sludge by the time I noticed it. LOL Luckily I have a ton of extra poly caps.

The Gundam Marker Eraser pen, GM300 i think is basically alcohol. Some of the pens are enamel hybrids though.
