Mobile Suit Gundam Wing: Glory of the Losers

So I just finished reading the first volume of Vertical Comic's newest Gundam manga, Mobile Suit Gundam Wing: Glory of the Losers, and I have to say the way it presents its story is... weird. While it does (re)tell the first few episodes of Gundam Wing, it kind of tells them out of order in a in medias res fashion, with flashbacks interspersed throughout the story. While the mechanical designs are the Katoki redesigns, four out of the five Gundams are not bad designs; the only one that rubs me wrong way is the Wing's. Still, the story is familiar and actually expands on a few characters' backstories as well, with references to Episode Zero (specifically Duo's childhood in the L-2 Colony and Relena's childhood where she encountered a young Zechs on assignment). The art is also drop dead gorgeous, with the highlight being the battle at the Corsica base (where the Heavyarms Ingel makes its debut). Overall, if you like Wing and want a more complete story, go buy it. What do you guys think? Have you read it? What are your opinions?

Yeah. Bought volumes one and two at my local Barnes & Noble. I'm reading through volume two right now and it retells the episode The Victorian Nightmare, but also adds in flashbacks to Wufei's time with his wife Nataku (itself a reference to Wufei's chapter in the manga Episode Zero).

I read a bit of it myself and I have to say...Glory of the Losers is an improvement imo of the original Wing. Takes the good stuff, makes it better, fixes the problems well and so far I'm impressed

There's too much to make an OVA. You'd need an entirely new series.

Better yet, take the prequel elements of this manga, Episode Zero, and some of the prequel elements of Frozen Teardrop (say what you will of the main story but the expanded backstories of Treize and Zechs in the early days of OZ are much more interesting) and make a comprehensive prequel OVA like the Gundam: The Origin OVA.

    I'd watch it.

BTW, Glory of the Losers ends with Vol. 14, so we've got about a year and half left of releases. Not bad!

Re: Mobile Suit Gundam Wing: Glory of the Losers

Just finished reading Volume 3, and one the more interesting changes they made was to kill off Vice Foreign Minister Darlin at the New Edwards Base during the Gundams assault on said base, instead of having him assassinated by Colonel Une in a space colony. Seemed like a weird change to me.

Re: Mobile Suit Gundam Wing: Glory of the Losers

I like it a lot actually. I can't find english translations of the last parts though...do they not exist yet? I believe I have up to chapter 75, which ends as the Gundams are leaving Peacemillion to battle Libra's Zero-System-Equipped Virgo II Mobile Dolls.

Anyway there were some head scratcher changes to the story added in here and there, but all in all it's the same story with a fresher take and I like it. It's a nice contrast to Frozen Teardrop, which is the worst piece of trash with the name 'Gundam' on it I have personally looked into in a very long time. Frozen Teardrop reads like a 14 year old's shitty Fanfic and I am legitimately mind-blown that the original writer is responsible for that.....

...But anyway, I would highly recommend Glory of Losers to anyone who enjoyed Wing and Endless Waltz.
