Post Old vs New: Perfect Grade Gundam

Disclaimer: I never built a single Perfect Grade in my life, thus the information provided below is entirely based on Online Research (e.g. looking through Dalong.net, watching Video Reviews) rather than personal experience. A grain of Salt is advised.

Old PG (up until the Gundam Astray Red Frame from March 2009, including reissues and variants from 2010 and onward)

    • You have to assemble the LED Units yourself
    • Occasional use of Articulated Vents

    • Occasional use of Daicast Content
    • Occasional use of Spring Loaded Suspension
    • Consistent use of Working Pistons (the Skygrasper in an acceptation)
    • More Sculpted Detail on the Inner Frame
    • Display Stands absent (the Skygrasper in an acceptation)

New PG (ever since the Gundam 00 Raiser from November 2009 and onward)

    • Pre-Assembled LED Units
    • Consistent lack use of Articulated Vents
    • Consistent lack of Daicast Content
    • Consistent lack of Spring Loaded Suspension
    • Occasional use of Working Pistons
    • Less Sculpted Detail on the Inner Frame
    • Display Stands always included

Commonalities between old and New (besides the Skygrasper)

    • Full Inner Frames (the Skygrasper in an acceptation)
    • LED units implemented, if not included (the Skygrasper in an acceptation)
    • Fully Articulated Hands
    • Somewhat consistent amount of Parts Separation

And the winner is... up for you to decide

I doubt I would ever do a PG. But you could also mention about how some of the new versions need add-ons. Where as the old ones came with them.

Great example of the old PG going beyond the call of duty is with the Gp01. You get not only the Gp01 but also everything for the Gp01Fb and a whole hanger for all the parts.

That seems really impressive to me.

    Not necessarily true.
You dont "need" the addons for the recent pg, And even the rx and Zaku had addon parts, clear armor, lighted weapons.

Personally, I'm a very detail oriented builder. The more detail a kit has, the more appealing it is it to me. And the old PGs stand out more because of that. I own a PG Mk.II Titans kit. I have not built it yet, due to wanting to increase my building skill before I do. However just looking at the detail it has, I cannot wait to build it.

That being said, I've seen newer PGs be reviewed, and the detail has seemed to shift to more of a gimik standpoint. The Unicorn and Banshee has the transformation and LEDs. While the Exia also has LEDs and "open hatch" gimik. Me personally, I'd trade these for more inner and outer detail.

In conclusion, I'd pick an older PG. Like the Mk.II

    oh wait............. I did........

Not to mention, the PG Unicorn, and Exia are technically the spiritual successor to the HY2M Glorious Series. Don't believe me? Look on Dalong.net (copy and past links below)

    HY2M Rick-Dom: http://dalong.net/review/etc/hyg1/hyg1_p.htm

    Hy2M Gouf: http://dalong.net/review/etc/hyg3/hyg3_p.htm

    PG Exia: http://dalong.net/review/pg/p16/p16_p.htm

    PG Unicorn: http://dalong.net/review/pg/p14/p14_p.htm

LED Unit for PG Unicorn: http://dalong.net/review/pg/p14L/p14L_p.htm

After looking at the links above, first compare the 2003 HGUC Zeta Gundam to the 2017 HGUC Zeta Gundam, next compare the 2003 MG Aile Strike Gundam to the 2013 Alie Strike Gundam

    2003 HGUC Zeta: http://dalong.net/review/hg/h41/h41_p.htm

    2017 HGUC Zeta: http://dalong.net/review/hg/h203/h203_p.htm

    2003 MG Aile Strike: http://dalong.net/review/mg/m65/m65_p.htm

    2013 MG Aile Strike: http://dalong.net/review/mg/m169/m169_p.htm

After looking at all of that, express your opinion as you wish.
