Bandai 1/144 Round Vernian Vifam with Sling Pannier

Finally finished my Bandai 1/144 Round Vernian Vifam with Sling Pannier kit.

It's not Gundam but it is from a 1980's Sunrise produced robot anime. Also, the mecha designs are by Kunio Okawara.

    Wikipedia article here: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ginga_...ry%C5%AB_Vifam

This kit dates back to 1983. I purchased this kit 10 years ago when it was re-released by Bandai. Like most kits from the era, it requires gluing, puttying, sanding, and painting. If you're building this kit, I recommend that you snip the guide pins away. Relying on the guide pins will result in poor alignment of the 2 halves! Kit quality has come a long way since then.

    Mostly brush-painted.

It's amazing that with a little bit of hard work and elbow grease, even a kit from the 1980s looks good.

yeah, its kind of what I like about some of the old kits. You can really put some time into them and make them look a lot better.

Really great looking kit. I know you said it was not Gundam, but I sure so see a lot of the ZAKU in it. I guess Bandai did a bit of kit bashing back then as well. Nice job on that old kit. This is how we all wish ours turned out back in the 80's but we just did not have the patience or skills back then.

Indeed. 30+ years later, I'm finally able to build kits like this. That said, I'd like my next kit to be something a bit easier.

Both the ZAKU and this VIFAM was designed by Kunio Okawara so you can definitely see the lineage.
Also, Kunio Okawara would use the backpack with wings idea again in Metal Armor Dragonar (1987) and further more in Gundam SEED (2002).

This is the kit that I saw on the shelf at Hobby Works in Bel Air. Once I got a closer look at it I could see the major differances from yours. It was just strange that as soon as you post yours this one goes up for sale. I think you have a copy cat following you.

That's not a kit build. That's the Robot Damashii toy.

The RD toy is quite superb. It's also in 1/144 scale. So, if you don't want to build the ancient 1980's kit, it's a great alternative.

Still the coincidence of it is a bit uncanny. You build one and post it, then with in two days they put that in the display case.

It's crazy! I can barely tell the difference between the two!
