US Release and New Dub for the Gundam Seed and Seed Destiny Remaster

    http://www.animenewsnetwork.cc/news/...sh-dub/.120036

It has returned! You can never escape... destiny.

I might actually use that as an excuse/opportunity to finally get around to Seed.

Interesting. Kind of disappointed they didn't get Matt Hill (the previous English voice of Kira) to return considering he moved out of Canada to Los Angeles. So we've got Io Flemming as Kira, Gohan (DBS) as Athrun, Orihime Inoue as Lacus, Lucy Heartfillia as Cagalli, Sailor Uranus (Viz) as Flay, Zoisite (Viz) as Sai, Atra Mixtra as Miriallia, Young Guts (Berserk Golden Age Arc 1) as Tolle, a rookie as Kuzzey, Yakov Feltsman as Yzak, Ichigo Kurosaki as Dearka, and another rookie as Nicol. Hmm, could be good. Need to hear it first before I make a judgment call.

Edit: As a side-note, it should noted that the DBS voice of Gohan I listed is not Funimation's Gohan but rather the Bang Zoom dub voice of Gohan.

I'm really torn about this. I really like the original dub.

If Newtypes can predict the future, and feel their opponents intentions, how come none of them were ever able to dodge the Bright Slap?

To me, it has it's ups and downs. Mark Oliver's performance as Rau was amazing; Lisa Ann Beley's and Trevor Devall's performances of Marrue and Mu respectively were spot on; Matt Hill's performance of Kira was really genuine, so that was another plus. On the other side of things, I did not like Chantal Strand's performance as Lacus (compare her Lacus to her Feldt Grace later and you can hear a noticeable difference), nor did I like Vanessa Morley's performance as Cagalli, and I didn't think Samuel Vincent's performance as Athrun was deep enough.

Me too. Maybe we'll get lucky and they'll put both on the discs, like they did with Akira? :\

My question is instead of re-dubbing the originals why can't we just get Dubs of Stargazer or the astray shorts. At least hopefully we will actually get the Final Plus episode of Destiny dubbed.

Re: US Release and New Dub for the Gundam Seed and Seed Destiny Remaster

If it's any consolation to fans of the old dub, I have heard rumors that some of the old cast may reprise their roles. For instance, doesn't it seem kind of odd that they didn't announce the voice cast roles for Marrue, Mu, and Rau? Especially Rau's VA since he's the main villain.

So I may have found the answer as to why SEED and SEED Destiny are getting re-dubbed: http://www.animenewsnetwork.cc/answe...-08-16/.120179. In other words, the old audio track may simply be unusable for a variety of reasons (audio won't sync well with the new animation, master has likely degraded over the years, and/or Sunrise wasn't satisfied with the old dub). Mind you, to all those potential naysayers out here, this answer is coming from someone who continually works within the anime industry AND has done A/V disc authoring for various anime publishing companies (so that adds to his credibility).

Re: US Release and New Dub for the Gundam Seed and Seed Destiny Remaster

So Sunrise has revealed more of the re-dub cast for their Gundam Seed Remaster project: https://www.gundamkitscollection.com...new-casts.html. Hmm, I don't recognize the names but maybe I will once I do a little bit of digging in ANN's artist archives.

    [moments later]...

Interesting choices, so the first four of noteworthy are Griffith as Rau, Casca as Murrue, Amy Rose (Sonic X) as Natarle, and Mash (Gundam: The Origin) as Mu La Flaga.

Addendum: here's a link to see the full cast list and their filmography: http://www.animenewsnetwork.com/news...e-cast/.122765

Re: US Release and New Dub for the Gundam Seed and Seed Destiny Remaster

So with AX (Anime Expo) right around the corner, I suspect that some news about the announced SEED and SEED Destiny re-dubs may come forward soon. For now, just keep a whether eye out on the horizon.

    - - - Updated - - -

So according to this article by ANN, it appears that an ultra edition release of Gundam SEED will contain not only the new English dub, but the old dub as well: https://www.animenewsnetwork.com/new...h-dubs/.133963.

So it's 2019 now and has anyone else heard anything about this project?

Re: US Release and New Dub for the Gundam Seed and Seed Destiny Remaster

We’ll probably hear an official announcement as it gets closer to convention season, but if I were to guess, assuming they’re separate releases instead of one giant set, SEED will be released late summer/early fall like 00 last year, and Destiny will be released near the end of the year like G last year and Wing the year before that. Hopefully they’ll announce some sort of release for Stargazer as well, even if it’s just as an extra feature in the Destiny ultra set.

Now to go into conspiracy mode. It seems strange that the notoriously cheap Bandai is footing the bill for completely new dubs for both SEED shows when they couldn’t be bothered to make any dubs for ZZ, Victory, etc. Morosawa supposedly finished the SEED movie script before she died, and Fukuda hasn’t been up to much since the SEED remasters and Cross Ange. 2019 is both the 40th anniversary of the franchise as a whole and the 15th anniversary of Destiny. Cosmic Era has shown remarkable staying power in terms of popularity in Japan (second only to UC of course). Bandai also said they’d have more to announce for Gundam’s 40th anniversary during 2019 at the end of the Hathaway’s Flash/Gundam 40th anniversary announcement event. I suspect there’s a chance we might get an announcement for a new SEED anime project as part of this later batch of reveals; whether that would end up being the long promised SEED movie or an OVA or even a new series, who knows. But I think there’s a pretty decent chance that Bandai could be planning to announce something new for SEED as part of their 40th anniversary project. Again given CE’s continued popularity in Japan, availability of talent, Bandai suddenly deciding to make new dubs for the old series, the general timing, and various things they’re doing for other parts of the franchise (which, UC aside, are all less popular than CE), a reasonable conclusion would be that they’re planning to announce something SEED related for the 40th.
    Sieg Zeon!

It's funny you should mention that as the other day Nozomi Entertainment tweeted out a simple "Anime Ja Nai" and as they've already released ZZ Gundam beforehand, people are speculating that they might be making a dub for it. Here's hoping.

On the other hand, Nozomi loves to tweet out random anime and Gundam crap all the time.
