    Obi's Procrastinations

Hello all! I've been lurking (and occasionally posting) for about a month or so now, and I thought since that I finally have my airbrush and a good bit of starting supplies I would finally make my own WIP thread. At the moment I have 10 built kits, but only one is not a WIP at this time

I am currently in the process of building my GM Sniper II, but not much to see there. So, in that case, I will start off with my Petitgguy Stray Black that is my main source of airbrush practice at this time:

I hastily denubbed this kit, since it will be mostly for practice. It has gotten a coat of Alclad II White Primer & micro Fill, followed by 2 coats of Alclad II Glossy Black Base Coat. The next step is a coating of Gold Titanium.

    Spoon for test:
    IMG_20170602_204038.jpg

The base coat on the spoon was a little rough, but I like the color and sheen I am getting from the combo at this time. The next step after the metallic is going to be a bit more science-y on my part as a beginner. I picked up Alclad II Transparent Red and Blue to try and make my own transparent purple to spray over the metallic.

I am also in the process of breaking down my MG Tallgeese and giving the white pieces a new coat of pearl white and the light grey pieces will be going to a flat white.

    To:

I have no idea how any of this will turn out, which makes it terrifying and exciting at the same time. Hopefully all goes well and you all enjoy my learning experiences as much as I have up to this point.

I got a lot of progress done on the Stray Cat today.

    Gold Titanium coat:

A small sample of the Transparent Purple I mixed up:

A nice top coat with Future before the paint goes on:

First piece sprayed, I was very nervous and excited at this time:

All of the pieces done! (pre-final coat)

All pieces with a final coating of Future (letting them cure over night before assembling)

Now that this adventure is almost out of the way I can soon start on washing and prepping my Tallgeese for its shiny new paint job. I really need to invest in some more skewers and gator clamps.

Thanks! I'm still learning as I go. I think I'm a little heavy handed, but getting the hang of it.

Me either, need to figure out what I'm going to do with the stand and bow though

I got the Stray Cat assembled this morning, it has a few bad spots due to poor handling, but overall looks good.

I was a little too forceful, it cracked/moved the paint unfortunately. Mistakes lead to learning though.

Well, I'll get you a picture of one or both of my actual cats haha. I have to keep one away while I'm building/painting and he hates it. XD

How many coats of paint did you add on to it?

Two coats of Alclad II Gloss Black Base
One coat of Alclad II Gold Titanium
    One coat of Future
One coat of transparent purple (custom 1:1 blend of Alclad II Transparent Blue and Red)
    One last coat of Future

I honestly got impatient and should have let it cure longer, and also shaved the first peg instead of forcing it. I shaved down all the other pegs after that.

Ok, so I got my new Tamiya Nippers yesterday. So, instead of washing/prepping my Tallgeese as I should have, I built a Waff.

Today though, aside from building part of a Honoo while on conference call, I fully washed my Tallgeese. It is now ready for priming (after it dries).

    Cleeeeean:

And a bonus cat round for GundamMonkey

That may have been it is that you didn't let it cure long enough for the paint to properly stick

Yea, that's my assumption. Need to learn patience!

    Tallgeesetest.jpg

This is my current idea for the Tallgeese. I saw another build with the pack all dark grey and really liked it, so I ran with it from there.

Haha yea, I had to overlap to get them all. It is about 170 pieces.

That's the old girl, she's a 16 year old Himalayan. The other is a 5 year old Norwegian Forest Cat, he loves attention and watches me work.

Have to make it through priming first

    Priming is done!

    - - - Updated - - -

Pre-shading is done on the white bits, stressful

    - - - Updated - - -

Fighting with pearl paint today, it's not going over the shading as nicely as I hoped it would. I'm going to lay down a coat or two of flat white over the shading and then do the pearl on that. It has too much of a silver sheen and wants to still be dark right on the shading.
