This is the first time I am working with weapons other than sabers or cannons of a typical Gundam and I was amaze that a simple colour change brings out the wow factor on my Nickirinmaru (Sword). Will be very keen to do similar weapons in the future.

LGT1977 MG Impulse Gundam Custom Paint

    Hi all,

Started another thread for my new MG build for my Impulse Gundam. I have been wrecking my brain how to beautify this already cool Gundam and I got some ideas now which hopefully is successful.

I will be starting with the legs instead of the traditional top to bottom. The reason is I have some idea on the exoskeleton of the gundam to have a more neon light kinda effect and the impulse legs seems like a good place to start to see if the effect looks nice or now. Never the less, I have complete the first leg and got the effect that I am looking for. Now to complete the other part and start on the outer frame pieces.

    Nice metallic finish. Metalizer paint?

How do you plan the neon effect? Paint or light?

It is actually Tamiya metallic blue + another brand of pearl white paint combo. Tamiya metallic blue is too dark for my taste so I started experimenting with another colour to get what I like.

The 'neon effect' will come from some contrasting paints of the exoskeleton and the armor which I am still not sure if I can pull it off. If that fails I will be considering getting some clear neon paint to get the effect.

That is pretty cool, I would have never of guessed that it was metallic blue with pearl white mixed in. Makes for a really cool effect.

Oh~ i forgotten to mention I did a little 'priming' first with a pearl white + cake white combo. The pics was the result of that. My first attempt was without priming and the effect was not that great when I painted my metallic blue over the grey.

Finished the other half of the legs now and its looks pretty well. I am still not so sure about the colour of the thrusters hence you will see some gaps on the legs. I have added a pic of the base coat before I apply the blue if anyone is interested.

This time I used a black surface to take the pictures and the effects are better now. Please ignore the spoon. I was trying to figure something out.

I'm not sure that the picture does it Justice (lol), difficult to tell... but something about the first picture speaks to me.

Re: LGT1977 MG Impulse Gundam Custom Paint

hi all, happy holidays and a early happy new year. Its time again for some updates. Been busy and keep falling sick so this build is kinda slow...

I have painted the internal black hoping to give some contrast to the inner and outer frame. However by painting an additional layer this gave me trouble assembling the kit and some areas have gaps that cant be closed in some of the pics below. Guess it time to reduce some paints on the joining areas....

So now I started to assemble them to see if the idea works. The parts are far from over. I still have to paint a layer of clear coat over the silver and the blue in the picture will be replaced with a darker blue. Something like the blue in my spoon colour above.

So after assembling, it seems the end result is not bad. As I mention that I wanted some neon effect on the parts which I thought I got it but I was unable to capture it in the camera tho...
