    Re: Urban's WIPs

Yeah that's exactly how I was too lol... of course when i say 20 years ago.. I was like 8 ish when my parents got me my first model plane.. I think i started doing cars and stuff in like 5th grade so I would have been around 9-10 but even then i didnt understand the concept of thinning my Enamels and puting several coats.. i just wanted to get them together as soon as possible hahahaha. I also put WAY to much glue on them if I remember correctly and they never quite fit together... tho I'd love to do another 67 Mustang...

Maybe it was a bad can and the color just sat at the bottom? Do cans have expiration dates? lol... also was it poly color? I know that Tamiya has it's PS and TS line... PS is for Polycarbon and sprays differently.. dunno if maybe that had anything to do with how it applied?

    Re: Urban's WIPs

Going through our building a few weeks back, I found an old NASCAR kit I'd built when I was in grade school...and it literally had glue all over it, reminded me of a spider web, like, everywhere. But no paint whatsoever, so I don't know what I was thinking with that one. It didn't seem to have fit together well at all, though.

I honestly don't know if it was something with the kits back then or what, but I usually always had trouble getting them to fit together 'perfectly' like they should have. I recall a 1990s Ford F-150 model had an engine that was especially impossible to get to fit right. My uncle and I must have tried at least 3 different kits and none of them went together correctly on the engine area. And then the '69 Camaro from that period I built first on my recent resurgence in modelling fit together like crap in several places, namely the engine and passenger area, though I don't know if it was age combined with possible warping of pieces or just bad fitting in general.

Seem reasonable. It was Testors Custom Grape, and I've seen some mixed reports on Testors since I've actually gotten back into things. But its all I can really find locally for hobby purposes, so I'm stuck unless I order online.
It's better to have it and not need it, than to need it and not have it. At least, that's what I keep telling myself with all my modeling supplies...

Yeah IDK I'm too addicted to Gunpla to go pick up any other kind of model lol, Japan does it better.

I honestly wont touch anything other than Tamiya anymore... I've been wanting to try just using like Krylon but i've heard that the application kinda sucks... Tamiya is a little more expensive, but, at least the primer, seems to spray better than anything else i've tried..

    Re: Urban's WIPs

I've got 3 modern car kits from AMT/Revell in my stack, so I'm gonna see (eventually) if things have improved over the years.

I'm pretty much set on turning that Kenworth into Rhino from MASK once I get to it. At least the paint job...transformation probably not gonna happen, heh.

Yeah, their primer's great. Had no problems with it going down at all. If only the paint I have was just as willing to play nice, lol.

Just a quick update here on the GM. It's done!

    - - - Updated - - -

Next project is in the build phase. Gotta say, that's a sexy pair of legs. Torso area's pretty spiffy too. Now to begin plotting for the eventual paint job while I wait to work more on this tomorrow.

Bawoo construction is complete! Really interesting kit to build; some of the engineering on this one was really incredible. I'm finding the transformation a bit finicky, but other than that I've enjoyed building this one. Be moving to the touch up and fix stage next, then on to primer and painting. Although...I'm honestly considering leaving this stock colors for the most part; it looks a lot better than I imagined it would.

    Re: Urban's WIPs

I've finally decided I like the default color scheme for the Bawoo pretty well, so I'm not going to do any custom paint jobs on it at this time. So, I've been doing panel lining, and I'm getting some accessories ready for a paint job. Once I take care of the worst of the seam lines, it's on to primer and the paint on the weapons and backpack thrusters.

That K9 Pack rifle and pistols are just a little something I've wanted to play around with for a while; thinking about filling in the peg area on the stock and make it smooth, and considering securing the spike on the front. Also the first time I've tried a pin vice; figured I'd bore out some gun barrels. Gotta say, I'm digging how it makes the guns look, especially with the pistols.

    Re: Urban's WIPs

Built this one this Saturday while hanging out at a friend's place; everyone else was playing video games on a console and a PC, so I decided to be different, lol. For being an older kit, I'm really impressed with the articulation and general quality. This was very much an improvement on the old Deathscythe and Epyon kits from a year or two before this one came out. Next up for this custom is touch up, seam removal, then primer and a custom paint job.

Does the Serpent get two of each weapon in the images? Do the shoulders open up to reveal missiles? Sorry. Missed out on this thing, so I wanted to find out. I'm liking the back thrusters on them.

    Re: Urban's WIPs

Unfortunately not on this version; it's only got one of each weapon, and sadly doesn't have the opening shoulders or the bazooka. I think those are on the MG version of it, though.

You mean hg not mg. It comes with opening shoulder missiles, two duel Gatling guns, a beam cannon, and a bazooka.

    Re: Urban's WIPs

Think the correct way to say this is the HG 1/100, not the HG 1/144 like I have. Forgot that the HG/MG as we know them now weren't fully established at the time these were made.

Oh, yeah...that's right. Back then, even 1/100s can be classified as HGs. Haha. Didn't even realize that until I looked at the kits in my shelf just now. Silly me...

    Re: Urban's WIPs

Didn't get much done, but I've been working on removing some obnoxious seam lines on the Serpent this evening. Got some areas covered in putty and ready for some sanding, maybe tomorrow. If I do anything else tonight it'll be to start construction on my GM Custom.

Looking good - I've got a handful of those 1/144 Serpent Customs that I've been planning on getting to. Eventually...

    Re: Urban's WIPs

For the age, the Serpent isn't really bad, and it only took me about 2 hours for the initial build. I can see how seam lines have evolved over the years going back to such an old kit, though. There are a few here that are going to be annoying to deal with, namely on top of the thighs on the front side in that little depressed area by the thigh armor, which seems like a good space for a custom piece to be added, like a vent or something, and on the shoulders, which didn't align the best on mine, as well as the protrusion on the outside having a big seam running right down the middle of a small depression. I decided to just fill those in completely and not worry myself over it, though if I ever build another one, I'll likely try something else before final assembly.

That is one sexy looking torso. Just started building the GM Custom tonight.

That head sculpt is exquisite, too.
