If you want an idea of what Thrawn was like during the Clone Wars, may I suggest the newly released book Thrawn: Alliances? The new book (written by Timothy Zahn) features a few chapters which has Thrawn ally himself with Anakin Skywalker during the Clone Wars.

    Re: Star Wars Thread

Just finished watching the first few episodes of Resistance, and I just wanted to give my two-cents on this series. First off: the negatives. Star Wars: Resistance's art style is definitely going to be off-putting for some. It was stated in the beginning of production that this series was going to have an anime-inspired look, going so far as to hire the studio the made the Knights of Sidonia anime. However it seems some fans took that to mean it was going to have an art style similar to a 70's, 80's, or 90's anime. The truth is that it really looks more like a brightly colored Knights of Sidonia. Still it's not outright terrible, just jarring at first. The next negative is the protagonist, Kazuda Xiono. This is a character that is clearly trying way too hard to fit in. He is likeable, but characters that try too hard often make moronic choices that just make you want groan. Still it is early in the series, so it will be interesting to see where his development goes as it is clear he has a lot to learn.

Now for the positives of this series, and there are plenty. First off, the animation is beautiful and has a very nice flow to it, especially with the aerial racing scenes. Secondly, textures and backgrounds are gorgeous; they give this series that used-future aesthetic that makes Star Wars... well Star Wars. Everything looks like it's cobbled together and about to fall apart. The last positive is the story. This series takes place six months before The Force Awakens. The First Order are still hiding in the shadows, lying in wait to make their strike on the New Republic. The Resistance has tasked Kazuda Xiono with a mission: report back on suspicious persons who might live, work, and/or pass through the refueling station Colossus (where the series takes place on) while maintaining cover as a simple mechanic. No grand battles here, only espionage and intrigue. This sounds like an interesting concept and it very much reminds me of a Cold War thriller. It's a great new direction and I can't wait to see where the story goes.
