No I don't hate Aliens just I prefer the realistic war aspect that the Gundam series and many other have, I like it when it is actually Mech vs Mech not Mech vs giant monster or giant alien. And I like the war, political, drama aspect that a lot of that brings about compared to random alien attacks earth or attacks the space ship again and again with no real character development from the other side. And I have seen a lot of stuff that I have liked just trying to dig deeper as I am limited to my own knowledge.

Zone of the Enders Dolores, I. You can even find it on youtube for English dub, and most of the voice acting is decent and the Chief Inspector's voice is funny as hell.

I have started watching Evangelion like twice and can never seem to really get into it, main character is rather annoying to me (not that that is the only reason) also are not the enemies aliens? or does it turn out to be some human plot thing? they seem pretty alien to me though.

I will perhaps finish it one day but I now have many other things to watch first.

nah, I just do not care for it. I'd rather watch Ideon. I will probably never watch Evangelion.

    Re: Non-Gundam Mech Series

break blade / broken blade - watch this first! There's a 6 part movie version and a 11 episode tv series. The tv series is based more on the manga which has an awesome story arc that they cut from the movie version.
Argevollen - Protagonist has a mecha that has a mind controlled cockpit system. Everything here are ground type real robots so no fancy flying mechs on this show.
rahxephon - technically enemies are still humans :P
aquarion - enemies are mythological gods :P but mecha design and story is done by Macross writer/director Shoji Kawamori so it has awesome mech design and ost.
gun x sword - This is one badass mecha show. I still like the protagonist mech Vann of thursday.
infinite stratos - mecha musume if you like the genre
ride back - slice of life mecha
gigantic formula - Has a G Gundam theme
Kurogane no Linebarrels / linebarrels of iron - parrelel world theme so technically no aliens
Bakuretsu Tenshi - there's mecha but not that much. More on action and ecchi haha
escaflowne - parralel worlds theme so technically no aliens
Dual! Parallel Trouble Adventure - another parralel world themed mecha - This is almost has a same mecha style with evangellion but the story's on a lighter note since it came a few years (or months?) after evangellion was released. This was a very memorable anime when I watched it a decade ago.
samurai 7 - More on futuristic samurai but there are giant mechs around (which the samurais slice in half :P). Based on Akira Kurosawa's live action seven samurai movie.

... You claim to not care for Eva despite not having seen it, and you think Ideon is a more enjoyable experience despite... Also not having seen it.

Congratulations for being the biggest hipster on this board.

Incorrect, I said I rather watch Ideon. Not that I have not seen it, lol. Where did I say exactly I did not watch Ideon.

    Re: Non-Gundam Mech Series

Well, that's what I'm getting at. Why would you think one of Tomino's failures would be any better than one of the most successful animes of all time?

Ideon is only remembered as being a source of inspiration for Eva because there's really not much else to note about the show besides those shared elements.

Cause Tomino takes the time to get murked in his own material.

I have no idea how to reply so I'll concede with what you said.

If you just don't care for Gainax in general, The Wings of Honneamise would be their only other "must-watch" production anyway.
