I’m almost done with most of the Mods to the GM/GM. I still have a few to do and one that is up for question and debate.

First the head. I shaved off a good bit of the back of both the head and the parts I took from the other head get. Now it looks like this is how it was built. Once the putty/glue mixture fully cure I can finish sanding it all smooth.
I even found an old V-Fin to give him, I like it. When I sand the head I will sharpen the V-Fin to make it correct.
I still have a couple pieces of armor to add to the head, but one piece at a time right.

I think I finally found the way I will be keeping the legs. I added “Knee pads” armor. I wanted something different but still in the builders line so I took the knee tops from a Gouf build fighters and opened them up a bit . Cut notches to fit the lines of the lower legs. They are held on with blue tack at the moment for final adjustments, then I will glue them down and fill them in with resin and do a little reshaping. I like the way they look. I had to get a nod to my GLORIOUS ZEON into this kit some how.

This is the head with the back cut down ready for the armor to be fitted in place.

This about how it will look. This side I did first so I was able to start sanding it. That way I was able to get the left side lined up and set in place even.

These are the new knee covers. Once I fill in that big gap they should look much better.

I know right now he look really bottom heavy, but I don’t have the arms and chest Mods on him in the picture. The heavy duty arms even him out.

This is the Mod I’m not sure about. Let me know what you all think of this idea.

As you can see for some reason the center of the waist sticks out really far from the front. This just looks weird like his a$$ is sticking out or something. So when he is standing the weight is always heavy towards the back. So he has to really lean forward and it makes him look awkward.
I’m thinking of cutting the center section down and bringing everything in tighter and get rid of that gap.
In the picture he is standing straight, as you can see that center section just juts out there.

The other alternative is to move the legs back a bit. I would have to change the attachment point for the legs themselves. But if I did that it would move the legs themselves in the center of the waist itself. This might be more symmetrical, but so would cutting the center down. I'm on the fence with this one.

What do you all think. Move the legs back, or cut the center down?

I like the head mod, but I am not too keen on that ass mod myself.

    Re: Monkeys Garage

Ya that is just on with blue tack to see what it would look like with different back armor. I have tried a few different ones to see if something grabs me. That is part of the reason nothing was said about it in the description. I have yet to have made a choice on that.

If I did Mod the back armor I would take the old one off. The red is just for looks right now it would not be pout on over the original armor. Ya, that would just look bad.

Thank you. This has definitely been a learning process.

It's looking pretty good so far. I can't wait to see the finished product. Personally, I'd move the legs back a bit, and slightly shave down the center.

Yup. move em back a bit more to straighten the stance. Maybe add a bit of card to the white on the legs to hide the gap. Sort of a back and wrap around on the sides? Not sure how that would go with movement.

Thanks. I went with that decision as well last night. I did a bunch of measurements and looked at what the 2 mods would do. If i moved the back in it would no longer line up with the top half of the kit. But if I moved the legs back the whole kit would line up. I will post pictures when I get home tonight.
Now that I have it done (still drying) the armor line on the leg lines up with the armor line on the body, it looks much better. Now I do have to Mod the rear armor. The big gap allowed for the legs to swing back, now that the gap is gone the legs are severely limited in range. It is OK I wanted to make the rear armor into separate parts anyway, now I have to. The additional work is worth it because now has the proper stance that I wanted. He can stand straight and not have to lean forward, and the legs are in line with the shoulders, arms, and the armor lines match up together like they should. So off to cutting up more parts I go! This Modding is a messed up thing. You go through the trouble of making one part look better, but that means you have to change another and so on. But the end result will be worth it. (I hope)

Well now that I have the legs and waist sorted out. Just finalizing the little details and a few more “fit and finish” bit and I can call the lower half done phase 1.

Next big Mod. The chest and upper waist section.
With the Polly caps that come with the kit and the parts the way they are, the kit can only lean forward a little bit. The cockpit section stops forward movement.
And some of the back sections hit each other and prevent back movement. The backwards movement is not to big of an issue. After all the Gundams are not used for doing the limbo. But forward movement should be free and a good bit more than it currently has.

I’m working on the measurements and drawings to work out before I cut into the cockpit or chest sections.
What I’m looking at is cutting the lower half of the cockpit and attaching it to the lower section and having the upper section stay attached where it is. Then cut the lower cockpit down so it is thinner, and widen the upper just a tad. This will allow the lower to move up and into the upper armor section. This should allow for greater forward movement.

I would cut where the green mine is. It will then go onto the body and when the chest goes forward it will go over tha section.

Is that red part going to be an issue for bending? It might need a small knick.

The red part is the part I will be cutting into 2 parts. Below the line is one and above is the other. When bending over the top will go over the bottom. It comes as one piece and it goes the whole length of the torso, I will make it into 2 pieces.

The waist mod is now about half finished. I still have to cut the rear armor into two parts like the front is. Then the legs will be back to full mobility.
But at least he is in line. The center of the body lines up with the center of the legs.

What I did was cut a small section from the back off and attached it to the front section. The main problem was it had no integrity and would break if left as is. So I filled the open voids with Millput putty and sanded it smooth after it dried. Now it has strength and can handle the little bit of torque from the legs.

I also have the head just about ready for primer and paint. I sanded it smooth all around, I will add better panel lines in a bit.
I just did not like the ridge that was going across the top of the head. I still have one little chip to fill in with a piece of plata. That was the result of the concrete monster. IE I dropped the part and it got a chip. .

YA, without the arms and weapons on he looks a bit bottom heavy and the legs look weird. Like you said , like the thighs need to be thickened a bit. Until I get the chest and arms to a point that I can put them on and get a full feel for the summitry of his limbs, I will leave them alone. The arms , well the shoulders really have a few changes done to them, but I have a feeling you are right. They will both need to be beefed up a bit, the thighs and the lower arms.

I'm also thinking of putting some sort of armor around the back of the ankle. It just seems so ....open. It looks to be the only joint that has no armor around it, that is a glaring weak spot if I ever saw one.

Most units have that bsck ankle exposed. Maybe you could do like a dome/bell cover like Zeon units tend to have.

Crap! With all of this Modding going on with this kit. Just how much of it will still be the GM/GM at the end?? the build off was GM\GM -V- GM\GM. But then again my brother did say no limit to the build, and mod away so I guess I'm still with in the rules.

I actually started to draw up the beginning plans for something like plate armor. That way they could fold or slide over each other as the foot goes up or down. Something like the plates on samurai armor.
