I really like the gold in the first pic. And ive alway heard you're supposed to do metallic paints over gloss black enamels.

    Re: Monkeys Garage

Normally yes, these are the new Vallejo acrylic metallic paints. They are water based and made to be used with acrylics. So far they are great, the only color that is not up to Allclad is the chrome.
Vallejo made these paints to go up agents Allclad II so you would not have to try and mix enamel and acrylics, which as we all know are not good friends.

I also still have to put the metal varnish on the parts. That should bring a nice shine to the Gold as well.

Sweet man keep us posted. I use almost exclusively Vallejo but so far the only metallics I've used are some Citadel colors from GW. I'd held off on getting the Vallejo because I had heard Allclad was the only way to go. Excited to see how this turns out

    Re: Monkeys Garage

OK Update time. I have decided that I would do a full test on all of the Vallejo Metallics that I have all at once. SO I took a test model from the scrap box and laid down two sets of primer. 1 is the normal Black Vallejo primer, and the 2nd the High Gloss Black primer from Vallejo. (just so I don't have to keep saying it, all paints in this test are Vallejo.)

I masked them off in stripes so that each color would have 1 normal primer and 1 high Gloss strip to cover. Then when they dried I masked off the part in half, right down the center. then I put down a few coats of the Metal Varnish.
So we have the metal paints side by side primer/Gloss primer, and top has the varnish bottom dose not. So here are the first set of pictures. (I think the forum still has a limit of 5 or 6 er post so I can only do a few at a time.)

This is the separation of the primers I was talking about.

With the shield, the left is the flat primer and the right side is the High Gloss.

I have a bit more done on the Yamato. I’m really trying to get this thing finished. There is a show coming up in Richmond VA that I would like to try and get into.

I have the 2nd coat of primer on and checking for high/low spots I missed the first go round.

I have even started the photo etched parts. I have a time of them for this kit. I bought the photo etched upgrade kit for the Battleship Yamato and I will use a bunch of them on this kit. Like doors and better hatches and what not. Even have better radar/antennas. I’m mixing the actual Yamato with this one as if they actually just remade the real Yamato.

Speaking of photo etched parts. I really didn’t want to spent upwards of $40 for a photo etched folding board. So I made one with some extra plexiglass I had around the shop. It works really well, and seeing as it is clear I can also use a ruler under it or see how much of the part is actually being bent. I like it.

I spent last weekend re-building my entire work station. I was tired of having to spend a bunch of “build time” just cleaning and finding things. So I figured “Heck I have a full woodworking workshop use the damn thing!”

So here is my new building set up. Man what a difference, working is so much easier. Why didn’t I do this months ago!?!??

Building a new wall unit. Then I had to completely clear off the old work counter.

    And start setting it up.

And add the final touches so now I can start working!

    Re: Monkeys Garage

Thanks. I honestly don't know why I waited so long. I have been planing it for a while, so I finally said F**K it and built it. Man it is nice, I'm getting so much more work done. and just in time.
A guy at work just hired me to build 2 kits for him. HGUC Unicon destroy mode, and the Banshee Destroy mode.
