Re: Godzilla, Gamera, and other Kaiju movies.

So I finally got a chance to watch the new Godzilla film from Legendary as I got the Blu-Ray/DVD combo pack as an X-mas gift. It did not disappoint. My one complaint about the film was that sometimes the acting felt a little stiff, except for Brian Cranston's performance. That said, the fight at the end was amazing. Truly the King of the Monsters has returned.

Re: Godzilla, Gamera, and other Kaiju movies.

I loved watching Godzilla when I was growing up. Godzilla Vs. Megalon was my favorite. I got the vhs as a birthday present along with a power ranger toy one year and watched that movie over and over. It's one of those bad/great movies for sure. I liked the new American movie, but haven't felt like watching it a third time. Was anyone else sad when Godzilla died in Godzilla Vs. Destroyah. I cried...lol

Oh, and get excited because Toho is making a new Godzilla film themselves. Let us all hope it is better than Final Wars.

I almost never cry while watching movies, but seeing Heisei Godzilla meltdown does the trick everytime, even nearly 20 years later.

Godzilla vs Destoroyah is definitely a contender for best Godzilla movie ever made. The Japanese cut of the original is the only other Godzilla movie that is in the same league. Best two Big G movies by far.

Hideaki Anno, more popularly known as the director of Evangelion, will direct the latest Toho Godzilla.

I saw this but I was waiting for news of it that didn't come on April 1st, because I really want it to be an April Fool's day joke. The thought of that hack having anything to do with Godzilla just pisses me off in so many ways. At the least the special effects director from GMK and the Heisei Gamera movies is also supposed to be involved.

Re: Godzilla, Gamera, and other Kaiju movies.

So has anyone else picked up the new Godzilla game for PS4? I just got it and I've been having a blast. I get why non-Godzilla fans might not like it, but it's a pretty fun game for Godzilla fans that really captures the spirit of the big G and his movies. I think it's probably the best expression of a Godzilla film in game form to date, although the Japan-only Godzilla Generations: Maximum Impact probably tops it as an actual game. The NES one was pretty fun too back in the day. Never cared for the crappy fighting games by Atari or most of the other Godzilla games over the years. That said, I still need to get around to importing the Saturn Godzilla game. That one always looked interesting (it's a strategy game where you control the military and have to try to stop Godzilla and co. from destroying Japan). Still, I'd recommend the PS4 Godzilla game to all Godzilla fans. It's fun and captures the feel of the movies pretty well. Non-Godzilla fans should rent it before buying since it's not a normal game.

    Huh, so this is unfortunate:

That's a darn sham as I was kind of looking forward to this, despite the first movie ending with no loose ends or sequel hooks.

What? Oh, that's sad, I was really looking forward to Pacific Rim 2 as well. The first movie was so fun to watch.

Huh, so according to this article, Gareth Edwards has left Godzilla 2 for Rogue One: http://www.animenewsnetwork.com/news...dwards/.102097

Re: Godzilla, Gamera, and other Kaiju movies.

He didn't leave Godzilla 2 for a crappy Star Wars movie. The plan was always to do Godzilla 2 AFTER the crappy Star Wars movie. What that article is talking about is the fact that the experience of doing the crappy Star Wars movie has burned him out on doing another big budget film in the immediate future, so now he's going to do smaller movies instead.

    - - - Updated - - -

Just looked at that particular article again and realized it wasn't as clear as some other articles were on the subject. Most of the articles I've seen have made it quite clear that his experience making Star Wars was exhausting to say the least and that's why he's returning to his indie roots. As a Godzilla fan and hater of all things Disney Star Wars, I'm still pissed off about the whole thing. Most Hollywood directors don't understand giant monster movies, so Godzilla 2 is probably screwed now.
