That was pretty bad ass! He made it look easy, which means he is good at it. Plus he has all of the fun tools that make it a bit easier to do some of that stuff.

    Re: Zaku's Blacksmithing stuff

    My thoughts while watching this:
"wow actual cable damascus. not just some dude trying to weld a cable and calling it damascus. whao, using sand as flux. wow using a block of wood for the initial tack so the anvil does not suck the heat out of your work and you get a better weld. man i wish i had a power hammer. or at least some friends who were so lazy to swing a sledge. oh hey a split point. not as easy as it looks. its hard to get the stock up to welding temp and not melt or burn the tips. man i wish i had a press. or some friends who wanted to do anything but drink and play videogames (yea my friends are lazy no i wont shut up about it). wut a magbase belt surface grinder? ive not seen that before. all the sureface grinders ive ever seen are stone. man i wish i had a proper heat treating oven. oh waiting until he has done all the grinding before the etch? that is skilled. most ppl do a light etch to see what steel is where so they can grind the sections where its to thick from forging. oh damn that is sexy."
    man this guy is good.

I think the most impressive thing was how he arranged the discreet metal to give it the final look, he has a bunch of black smithing videos, the chain one is really near too

Yea he did it so the higher carbon steel would form the edge and the cable would form the spine and give it some flex. It looks awesome and is a performance upgrade from using one steel throughout the knife.

Another neat one, I wish I had the skill or the time to develop the skill to do stuff like this
