While were on the subject has anyone considered making their own english wheel? Id like the option to shape sheet metal and an english wheel looks like the way to go. Id just be doing it for fun so it would have to be cheap. But it doesn't look hard to make.

Harbor freight has the 15Lb anvil on sale for 20 bucks. Thats very tempting. Would sure beat this old piece of rail road track. Hmmm it is cast iron though. I really wish i could find a higher quality anvil thats used.

I really don't trust anything made by Harbor Freight. I'm not going to go into, but lets just say I had a bad experience.

I was honestly thinking that myself. Harbor Freight is almost cringe worthy. Sometime you will find something in their store they didnt make. But most of the time its still crap. Just with a different name.

Yea i could probably do that. Would that be a lot better than my rail road track? Like would it bounce the hammer and not deform. I dont think i could do anything for the horn could i?

What do you plan on doing? I wouldn't do heavy materials, but for the odd jobs it should work well and its so cheap if you do break it you can probably get your money back in scrap value and buy another one lol

Blacksmithing is just a hobby for me. Buy i have a tendency to get caried away a try to build way more than im capable of. And i tend to hit to hard when my muscles are fresh and just beat the crap out of some meal. Also i want to try my hand at forge welding. Id like to make damascus. And it seems you once you heat your metal to forge welding temprature you gotta strike fast and hard befor you anvil sucks all the heat out of it. Im afraid id break the cheap little anvil right from the get go. Also are you a very experienced blacksmith?

I have and all i came up with are a few of the cheap cast iron anvils. Besides id be a mad mothe hubberd if someone sold me a anvil told me it was steel or wrought iron and it turned out to be cast iron. The only way i know to check it the hammer tap trick. Listining for the ringing is all i know.

This is almost exactly what im doing. Except i like their idea of sheet metal with holes drilled in the bottom better than my chicken wire idea. It would make it easier to break up clinkers with my poker because i could man handle it a bit more. And i think it would be better because id lose less coal. Also i impulse bought myself a new Eastwing 2.5 Lb blacksmithing hammer. Damn im bad at saving money. Lol

Have you ever had a tool you never used then gotten rid of it. The hated yourself and found yourself missing the tool. Even though you still dont need it.

Her name is Sam. She is a wolf spider that lives in my tool shed. And she is welcome. We have had wolf spiders as big as my hand in our attic they keep to themselves and eat the mice.

    She is still young.

We have Wolf spiders arround here, but I haven't seen a big one for awhile.

Also how do you know it's female if it isn't fully grown yet? I know Females spiders are bigger (and sometimes look to be a diffrent species like the Black Widdow, anyone who dosen't know look up a Male, they're sad, not even deadly) but couldn't she just be a slightly older than you think young man?
