    Re: Movies

I agree with you about the no need for explosions and super busy CGI to make a kanji movie, but it was still missing something. O' I know what it was missing some sort of actual plot. Other than let's beat the Russians to an island, and find a reason to cash in on a -v- movie with Godzilla.

True the running in a straight mile might have been a dig at Prometheus, but I took it as proper military protocol. Never run in a straight line, it is easier to shoot at someone running strait versus someone running in a random zig-zag pattern.

    Oooh, color me intrigued:

So looks like the villains are going to be Orm (aka Ocean Master) and Black Manta. This is going to a fun ride.

    Re: Movies

Just got out of Avengers: Endgame not too long ago. No spoilers, because I don't want to ruin any part of the movie for anybody, but I just wanted to say that the movie was really quite awesome, and I highly recommend it to everybody (should go without saying, especially given the marketing, but you really need to have seen many of the prior MCU films to fully enjoy/appreciate Endgame).

Also just as warning, certain IGNorant clickbait asshats put major spoilers in the urls for many of the Avengers: Endgame articles they wrote up. Basically be warned that you could get inadvertently spoiled if your mouse happens to hover over one of their Avengers articles at the same time your eyes are looking at where the url for the link being highlighted by your cursor pops up (lower lefthand corner for Mac OS). Just thought I'd warn you guys in case any of you go to IGN and try to scroll past the million and one Avengers articles to read some video game news. It really is pretty scummy on their part. There's really no need for them to post spoilers instead of article titles in the actual url. They're either incredibly stupid or incredibly inconsiderate. Probably both since it's IGN.

I saw Endgame twice yesterday. All I can say, is that there was applaus, cheers, and tears. Lots and lots, of tears.

    Re: Movies

Yeah the crowd at my showing was pretty into it too, despite being the early bird showing. That said, it was pretty awesome as a Godzilla fan that the biggest cheer in my theater was for the Godzilla trailer. The crowd absolutely erupted in pure joy when Godzilla unleashed his radioactive heat ray. Can't wait. Between Avengers Endgame, Code Geass, the Star Trek DS9 documentary Fathom event, and Godzilla King of the Monsters, the next month or so at the theater is going to be absolutely fantastic for me.
Then I can go back to pretending the theater doesn't exist until Godzilla vs Kong next year for sure, or possibly the Alien Fathom event much later this year, if I feel like dealing with the annoyance of going to the theater for a movie that I absolutely love, but have seen a million times before.

    Re: Movies

I can't stand going to the theater at all. I pay a boat load of money to watch a movie not have you(other people in the theater) talk ,scream, and eat while I'm watching a movie. SHUT THE HELL UP!
But I will see Endgame in a week or two on a Wednesday morning when there is not so many people there. Same with Godzilla. Then I too, can also forget that the place exists.

    Re: Movies

Avengers: Endgame just passed Titanic to become the second highest grossing movie of all time (not adjusted for inflation) after just two weeks. That's insane. Given that it's only been out for two weeks, it seems very likely it might be the movie to finally dethrone Avatar. Source.

Saw the Code Geass movie at the theater. That was a lot of fun. It was good to see the Emperor and his partner in crime (and everyone else) back in action again after the events of R2. It wasn't a perfect movie, but nonetheless it was still a pretty entertaining and all round great ride/follow up to R2. Can't wait for the blu-ray, and hopefully Sunrise's announced 10 year plan for new Code Geass content following the movie involves some more Code Geass anime projects (and not just new manga and/or mobile games). All hail Lelouch!

    Re: Movies

Saw Godzilla: King of the Monsters (2019). An awesome Godzilla movie made by obvious Godzilla fans for Godzilla fans, and it's my new favorite movie of the year (it's not even close). The incredible amount of obvious love for the source material that went into this movie was simply beautiful. I really don't want to spoil anything, but the movie is absolutely full of references/homages to past Godzilla films, teases of what could happen in the future of the MonsterVerse, and, most importantly, the four main kaiju are all treated as actual characters with the proper reverence they deserve. The handling of Mothra in particular is both divinely beautiful and spectacularly awesome, as well as far beyond what I expected Hollywood (or even Legendary in particular) to be capable of with regards to how they managed to get her characterization so very right. I'm still stunned they didn't turn her into yet another generic Hollywood bug monster (I expected her to be the one they'd be most likely to get wrong of the four). Seriously, Mothra's characterization in the movie is spot on.

No disrespect to Godzilla (2014), the first Pacific Rim, or Kong: Skull Island (I love all three), but they all pale in comparison to Godzilla: King of the Monsters (2019). It's simply the much better kaiju film. No contest.
Some mainstream movie critics may be disappointed/underwhelmed by the human side of the story, and will criticize the movie for it, but I honestly think they're seriously missing the point: Godzilla, Mothra, Rodan, and King Ghidorah are the true stars and focus of the movie, while the humans and their drama are the B story and basically only exist to serve and support the story being told about the starring kaiju. This isn't an oversight or mistake. This is how it's supposed to be done in a kaiju movie.

I highly recommend Godzilla: King of the Monsters (2019) to any and all kaiju movie fans, and I especially recommend it to longtime/hardcore fans of the Godzilla franchise in particular. Seriously, this movie is awesome. I'm far too much of a Godzilla fanboy to be able to reasonably predict how much a non-kaiju movie fan might enjoy the movie, but I sincerely hope that everyone, be they kaiju movie fan or not, is able to see the movie and enjoy it. I generally hate going to movie theaters, but this movie will almost certainly lure me back for a second theatrical viewing (if not more), misanthropy be damned. I'll definitely be adding the eventual blu-ray to my collection on day one.

Ended up seeing Godzilla a second time. It was just as awesome the second time around. Not going to lie, I still want to go see it in the theater again (and again...), despite the all pesky humans.

    Re: Movies

I would have to agree with Zeta-G GKOTM was so intense and incredible, and the after credit scene WTF!!?! I saw it in IMAX now I'm going back to see it again but this time in 3D. The sound track was spot on with the hints at all of the monsters main theme songs and the way they made them actual characters not just monsters in the background of a bad movie. I just can't wait for the blue ray so I can go frame by frame for parts of the movie, like the end credits.....
I did like the 1 quote (if you saw it that is) "What's a King compared to a GOD?" The next installment is going to be great. But I think they let a bit out of the bag as to the fight with Kong. Lets face it the argument for who would win has gone on for over 50 years and will most likely keep going, so I won't go into detail as to why Godzilla would win. But either way you go someone will be pissed off. If Godzilla wins the monkey fans will be mad, same way if Kong wins G-boys will be pissed. It is a lose lose situation. But the director said that there will be a clear winner, so we will have to see......but with the head being sold and the "bad guy" still in play. I think we will find it a Superman/Batman thing going on. The two go at it and then something (possibly built from the head or the bad Guy finds another bigger monster) and they have to team up to "win" so we get the "winner" but not in the way we want it.
But it is the equivalent of a Sherman tank verses an M1 Abrams. (Godzilla being the M1)
