Hey guys.

I was lucky enough to visit Japan last year before they tore down their 1/1 RX-78-2 (and then rebuilt it...with a beam saber). I figured I'd post some of my pictures for your enjoyment.

This stuff is old news, I know. But they had a rave a couple nights and I haven't seen many pictures from that, so I thought why not.

Until of course, America sees Japan has a giant fighting robot, and raids your ass with F-22's and A-10 thunderbolts. America

True. But I got enough practice piloting gundams in Japan's POD arcade game that I would ROW ROW FIGHT THE POWA

I am a wo/m/an. haha... though /m/ would probably disagree.
I spent WAY to much money on that game... the worst part was Akihabara was our first stop. I had to buy myself another suitcase to bring my gundam merch home.

Postin the box of the kit they sold at the event... haven't gotten around to completing it yet. It's basically just a scale model of the statue. The head moves but that's about it...

Make a point of going to Akihabara. They have a store called Yodobashi, which is a seven floor electronics store... one floor is pretty much devoted to toys and there's a store full of model kits. The rest of Akihabara is filled with arcades and smaller shops selling equally as cool stuff. :)

I think GSAM allows you to schedule visits to their warehouse (if you live in their city)... Granted there wouldn't be much to see at the moment, but I imagine it would look similar after they restock.

I feel like when I do go to Japan, I have to see that 1/1 RX-78. No joke. I'm also going to have to buy a 1/60 RX-78 and build it right in front of it! That would be great. I don't think very many people would actually look at you like you were crazy either.

Considering the fact that a dude got dressed up as Amuro and had his wedding at the original site, I don't think they would see building a gunpla of RX-78-2 in front of the statue as being odd.

Let's hope, for our sake, that security for the 1/1 scale is as tight as the security for most Gundam anime i.e. completely non-existant. What we really need to pull it off is a particular type of person... is anyone on here a very impulsive, angry teenager? Or maybe a malcontent 'tweener whose parents worked on the 1/1 Gundam?

It's a life-size Gundam in Japan. They'd notice. We're talking about a culture that has criminals who commit Hyaku-shiki inspired vandalism and burn down houses over thrown out Gunpla collections.

Now if a Gundam statue erected in America were to be stolen...

no one besides Gundam geeks would notice.

The day I went to see the RX-78 on Odaiba, the rain was pouring so hard and it was so windy that it literally crushed my umbrella. At the time, there was still a fence around the Gundam, but it looked totally finished. I had to walk in an inch of standing water on the grass in front of the Gundam to get close.

There was one other guy there, so when we both were done taking a bajillion pictures of it, we switched cameras and took pictures of each other in front of it.

The whole experience was unreal. I just wish I had a $1000 camera that would have better been able to capture the essence of the Gundam in the storm. As it is, I've been using one of my pictures from then as my computer desktop.

I'm assuming someone photoshopped it in. There was an official japanese-only iphone app to do just that (only in real time and with Char's Zaku, not Exia), so it wouldn't be too much of stretch to say some crazed otaku with too much time on his/her hands photoshopped an Exia in. Seeing as how I haven't heard anything about a 1/1 Exia being built on any of the news sites, it's definitely a fake of some sort; a good fake, but a fake none the less.

Now, now no leading the witness. :P
Also, Bandai technically has at least two official YouTube channels: BandaiEntertainment (the US distributor's channel) and Anime Channel (Bandai Visual/Bandai Channel's channel)). If you're watching 00 on YouTube, it should be on one of those two channels (another legal option would be Crunchyroll.com); Bandai gets the advertising dollars from views on those channels, they do not get any advertising dollars from Gundam 00 videos on other channels.

Now wait, could be watching from Bandai's channel. You are watching from Bandai's channel, right? ( just say "yes")

I am watching it from the Anime Channel. Yes there are advertisements, but I just let them run while I play Solitaire.
