So yeah, this is my very first gundam. I think it's coming out fairly nice. I took a trip to my local HobbyTownUSA to pick up some paints for it. Here is what I have so far. :D

https://lh4.googleusercontent.com/--YhLvyCTEHA/UHnm01J3p6I/AAAAAAAAAbg/DzLfsBBnWok/s640/DSC03119.JPG

The paint got a little smudged on the left ear. I actually redid the ear and now it's perfect.

Any thoughts?

Update:

Head almost finished. I'm really impressed with the result. Didn't think my first gunpla would turn out this good :D

Head Complete!!! I am very very happy with the results. If you take a toothpick and run it through the paint, when it starts to become tacky, you can make sort of a battle damaged type deal. I wasn't looking for a completely destroyed look, but more of a worn look. I think it cam out really nice.

I decided to go with tamiya gloss aluminum for the inner frame, because it has the effect of real metal when it protrudes from the model.

Looking awesome man. I own this kit, and you couldn't have picked a better one for you first. I'll be watching this build with enthusiasm. Can't wait to see it done.

I have wanted to build this kit. What kind of paints you using.

I would like to know what paints for the external armor your using myself?..

Yes. The bubbly areas are from paint buildup, which means you are spraying in one location too long and too close. Recommended distance is 7-8in away from the part.

Looks great :)

Magnificent. Correct me if suspecting anything incorrectly but - these shining "bubbles" look decent!

and

Later I realized I forgot to apply the decals, which explains the change in lightning

The Rub-Off Transfer decals are very interesting. I've never used them before so I was a bit scared initially that they wouldn't transfer. They are a bit fiddly to get into place and in a position where you can rub them without moving the decal around, but once they are finished, they look really nice and clean. It makes me glad I went with the MG 1/100 instead of the RG 1/144 I was originally planning on buying. Those decals are really tiny. XD

As for the paints, I used mostly spray and 1 brush paint, Model Master Enamel Paint Gunpowder.

For the red, I used Model Master Custom Spray Enamel Burgundy Red Metallic.
black, Boyd Enamel Paint Smoke Grey Pearl
silver, Tamiya Color Gloss Aluminum
gold, Testors One Coat Lacquer Inca Gold

It's looking great man. Are you using cans or an airbrush?

Right Arm finished! Finally a day I can paint XD. Hopefully tomorrow won't be rainy. I used a brushed on Gunmetal for certain parts and I def don't like. I'll probably take off the hand plates and repaint them a bluish silver, when I get the paint. Anyway here's what is looks like so far.

And yes to clarify, everything was canned except the gunmetal on the hands which I will replace later.

Ok so after a little bit I finished some more parts. I actually have the other arm finished but I would like to make some minor changes to it. I also finished the foot. (For some reason the manual prompted you to build that before the skirt.

Damn man that's looking mighty fine! I know this is your first gunpla build, but do you by chance have any previous experience doing different kinds of models or painting? Either way, your results so far are impressive, and I definitely applaud you for your progress so far.

Just to update this thread, I want to say that I haven't really gotten time to work on this project. With school, job, and the storm shutting me inside for the past several weeks, I thought I'd do a little update.

So I cut out all the pieces for the leg and I'm hoping to paint them tom. I went ahead and redid everything on the body that I wanted redone and in the process I snapped a little hook of the fin. Luckily I managed to glue that back together.

As a side note, I ordered some hands for my Gundam with articulated fingers. Hopefully they won't be too terribly large. I also figured out what I was going to do with the awkwardly colored plastic on Epyon. (Greyish purple?) I haven't really been able to find a paint that resembles that color and isn't aluminum or straight up grey(what I used for the inner frame), so I tried to spray it with a very light coat of aluminum and it gives it a nice metallic finish.

So yeah. I'm hoping to have some new pics and things tom.

Sorry to double post, but I finished some things. I would have been able to finish more if it didn't rain for the majority of the day but alas, here are the pics.

Finally finished with the hands! Well....sort of. The pointer finger hook snapped so I'm currently waiting for the glue to dry.

Agreed. I use aluminum for my drybrushing effects when I paint darker parts and it just seems to pop in a way that silver cannot.

That's the first kit you've built? Doesn't resemble any kit assembled by "a beginner"
