Here is my entry for the Summer War 2012 contest. Maybe. Or maybe my Gouf Custom. It's my Zaku I sniper. Ya, it's a simpler small model but I hope the camo pattern will make it different. I could go with the tan/putty colors but that's to simple. Might go with either the German ambush camo scheme or some nice urban colors.

Do you tend to apply these pattern on your ZakuI's armor? Cool xD. Don't forget to write "Sieg Zeon" on it, to modify your MS' apparel xD

August 3, 2012, 4:14 PM
Hey, I just posted pics of my Zaku Sniper, not quite going as I planned it! I look forward to seeing what you do with yours!

I think it'd look really cool with the Swedish M90 camoflage pattern...

I would like to. Just need to practice my freehand with my airbrush. I am not use to working with such small models curvy models. Most of the time I work on larger 40k tanks. Worse comes to worse, I use do the ambush scheme with some sticky tack then put some camo netting on. But I do love urban combat and use this camo scheme from one of my 40k armies:

Looks like the Zaku Sniper club is growing. Don't worry, I love customizing my models.

There is my Shin Matsunaga Zaku II built and being in the middle of being stripped. Because I hate painting white, I might paint my Zaku with the following colors shown in the link bellow.

Nice space camo.

This is what I did in two days of being sick with the flu while watching Gundam Zeta:

I did pass out for 13 hours on day two after working on it for a little bit. Still needs to be painted.

Dreissen semi painted. 1st pic is of the arm non-highlighted and the 2nd is highlighted (still needs some touch ups).

I might do something different. A sped up video of me painting the Zakrello.

I do enjoy the older kits. With a little TLC they can turn out really nice!

Focke Wulf
August 24, 2012, 12:00 AM
They can be. I have a 1/100 scale Rick-Dias that came out pretty nice BUT I also have a Agguguy that was a pain. The heat rods are very chunky and trying to put the chest pieces was very hard. The legs kept on popping off while I was trying to glue the chest pieces together.

September 15, 2012, 1:08 PM
nice I like the Zarrello, its so rare to see those kits still in circulation of the gundam community. Btw when you got your Zaku I sniper did you not want the Yorim Kirks ver.? I picked that version up not knowing that there was actually two versions of this kit.

Focke Wulf
September 16, 2012, 2:02 AM
I actually got both kits from gundamstoreandmore.com. The Zarrello was a freebie and I didn't know I was going to get him. What do you mean by a Yorim Kirks ver?

September 16, 2012, 9:39 AM
There's a later release of the Zaku Sniper as it appeared in Gundam Unicorn. Slight color difference, a command horn on the head, these...nubby things...on the shoulder armor and a couple of cylinder things attach to the backpack. Otherwise, it's the same kit.

I paint my Imperial Guard infantry classic Cadian colors and my armor is painted classic army tri-colors ( that's if I get around finishing them, the down side to IG there is so many of them). For the Emperor.

Focke Wulf
January 31, 2013, 10:32 PM
40K model wise, I have the following give or take:

IG: around 25 tanks plus three super heavies and at least 80 troops

SM: A little more than a company

CSM: over 100 troops, 50 are the old school termies. Not fun to paint mostly when they are Night Lords.

Eldar: no clue

Grey Knights: 30 troops

Back to gundam...

I got this model years back as a freebie in a trade even though I already have this model. He has been laying around in a box for years and I think he deserves to be finished. For the joints, I am going to prime them with black P3 primer then paint them a dark grey from GW then seal them up with Testor's dull coat spray.

I almost have my first gundam totally finished in years. Yes, years! I haven't done anything special, just some hand brushing. I was going to try highlighting like how I do in Warhammer but they didn't come out so good so I painted that over.

Here is my super old school Dreissen. Everything is sealed but the chest parts. Still have to do some touch ups. I don't know what close combat weapon I want done. Hm.

Fun story time...

Two days ago, my girlfriend and I got into a huge fight that was her fault. She made some comment that really upsetted me because it was about a very hard point in my life. After a day of not talking to her, she left me a package at my house. A "I am sorry" gift we can say. Inside was this:

http://i701.photobucket.com/albums/ww18/Gasmask_with_Vodka/gundam/cbe74c73-9f63-4683-b772-e03e99d81b50_zpsf6801206.jpg (http://s701.photobucket.com/user/Gasmask_with_Vodka/media/gundam/cbe74c73-9f63-4683-b772-e03e99d81b50_zpsf6801206.jpg.html)

To finish up the story, I was about to call her to make up anyway. Just needed some time to cool down. So we are all good now.

I swear it's a cheap knock off company model because of how they spelled the company's name. She said she found it in some thrift store like this. Missing the PVC sprue but I bet I can find those online for dirt cheap.

April 17, 2013, 5:32 PM
Yep, looks like a knock-off. Interesting to see the quality of the plastic.

April 17, 2013, 8:13 PM
I find it interesting how they're trying to look like the real deal with that "Bendi" logo down in the lower corner.

Focke Wulf
April 17, 2013, 8:38 PM
In all honesty, it's not that bad. This plastic is actually a tad better than some of the cheap $50 Walmart airsoft guns I have seen in the field.

What paints are you using for the base coat?

Focke Wulf
July 19, 2013, 12:42 PM
For the primer, I used P3's black. Love it. Then I used Vallejo's neutral grey For a base coat shown in my last post. Then bellow I used Vallejo's model air white (basically a very thin paint you can use straight from the bottle for airbrushing, no thinning at all) with a drop of the neutral grey. Either tonight when I get out of work or tomorrow, I will be using the model air white straight but a few light coats of white. Not one coat as in the other sprays.

How's Vallejo Model Air working out so far? Easy to spray? Doesn't clog? I've been thinking of trying them out as an alternative to the Tamiya stuff.

Thanks. I has a ton. 4 gundams, 28 tanks for warhammer and 200ish figures for warhammer and three military airplanes. At least I'm getting closer to being done.

I like the model air. Doesn't clog at all and easy to use. I was worried that it might be to thin and would run but I was wrong.

It's been soooo long since I worked on a Gundam model. Just warhammer 40,000 models non stop. Actually, I have been out of the Gundam scene. But after seeing so many people on Facebook posting their Gundam models, bought a few Japanese Gundam games and Gundam DVDs, I started back again. Got burned out on warhammer models too. Got a bunch of Gundam models. MG Dom, MG Acguy, MG gelgoog, MG Ground type GM and the old school desert Zaku. On the other hand I tossed away the SD models. Took up to much room in my new house. Looked like crap and didn't feel like stripping the models to re paint them.

I also bought a air compressor which is a huge plus. Those cans started to cost to much and them freezing up sucked a lot too. Picked it up from the local art supply store for $70 too.

Feels great to be back.

Yep, have to deal with my girlfriend's cat which loves to rub against me when I'm at the kitchen table, either during homework or my gunpla. Since I moved out of my house and because I'm trying my best to focus on school than modeling, I haven't set up my painting table in my man cave. I use to sit hours on end painting but that time has to hold off for the next 13 weeks. On my old set up, I left a cup of water to wash my brushes and a cup to thin out my paints. Worked great at my old place but with having a cat that can jump everywhere almost will make this a little hard for my table. My man cave Is a room with a door BUT there isn't a door to block it off. My idea is to get a tall baby gate so he can't jump it and or land on it. I just hope when I have painted models in the open that the cat will not bump into them, messing up the paint. The paint I mostly use (GW) dries pretty fast

Another two hours of work and I did the legs and some touch up sanding. Yep, I'm one of those guys who hates Nubs so much that he spends time sanding them off. Because this kit came with so many great models, I don't know which one to have him holding while posed. Might go for the missile launcher or machine gun.

I have been working on my Zeon fan fiction which gave me a crazy idea. I'm going to have either five to seven main characters which pilot mobile suits that has been custom painted. I'm going to make a mobile suit model for each character.

Oh man, I totally forgot you can open the cockpits on these kits. Now I really wanna make my GM Head RX79 replica!

I know how you feel about nubs, I can't stand them! Seams, as well. I always do the brush-on krazy glue/sand till blended trick for seams.

And I feel you about wanting to build kits for your own characters. I ran a tabletop roleplaying campaign back in my early 20s, and I've been collecting the kits I need to make the mobile suits used by my original squad. Awesome replicas are great, but what really fills me with joy is seeing the original creations people come up with!

Only an hour of work. Didn't get that much done because I wasn't feeling great. I might switch over to my MG Acguy next time I work on my models.

The cockpits are pretty cool to say the least. It's painting the pilots that are the worse. But the thing that's going to drive me crazy is painting the Pistons with that crisp look. For the seams, I just cut down the nubs close to the model but still leave a little nub. Then I sand down the nub. If there's a gap I just use a dab of super glue.

A little update showing what's ready for the painting. The problem I have with this model is the weapons. There's to many and I don't know which main weapon I want on it. Leaning towards the machine gun or missile launcher. The machine gun looks awesome but trying to sand the seems off the wire stock. Don't want to break it. I do have lots of time to think about it.

At this point in time, I'm going to switch over to another model. Might go with the MG Acguy or the old school desert zaku.

Another one bites the dust, I mean sand. My desert Zaku from 1994. Pain in the butt to build. The fitting was horrible, loose parts, no pv caps. I'm going to add the hoses on after I paint it. Need to figure out what scheme to us.

Starting to dig the inner frame and stand for this fishy little guy.

Got all of the armor panels sanded and ready for paint. But it's still to cold to do any priming outside so I have to wait a few more weeks till it gets warmer.

Time to take a break from the 1/35 scale German armor world and coming back to Gundam. This time around is the 1/144 scale gouf flying test type. Got it for $5. Vintage as in no poly caps, need glue to keep it together, and the posing is super limited. Still a nice little model. Wish it was an MG though. Still need to do some sanding but that will be done much later before painting.

Man just think of just how far Bandai has come with their Gundam making skills. The old kits look really bad in comparison. Don't get me wrong I still love them but wow they were bad.

I love my airbrush. First set of parts painted for my GM ground type. I need to start planning weathering.

May 26, 2016, 2:46 AM
you ever paint up that Gelgoog?

Focke Wulf

Not yet, I want to use my airbrush to paint the gelgoog but my airbrush skills are not the best so I thought I would pratice on a GM. Don't want to mess up Zeon's best mobile suit ;)

It's been a super long time but I got a Gundam model fully done. This airbrush is awesome to say the least.

I also used a mechinal pencil along the edges to show worn out metal.

I'm actually building two 1/144 scale Zakus right now. Trying to get the little guys first and practicing on them. I want my gelgoog which is my 2nd favorite mobile suit to look super great.

So many Zakus and random Feddie models. I just want to get these guys done so nothing really special will be done with them. Just trying out some weathering and decal work.

To be honest, I love my airbrush. It has cut down on the time by 80% when I use a paint brush, even a large paint brush.

That GM is very nice.

Thanks \(0u0)/

Bit of an update time. I'm planning to do an airbrush video of me painting my Gunpla. I love making videos. It's getting colder out so I need to prime as much as I can before it gets to cold to prime outside.

- - - Updated - - -

Bad news with the video is my phone isn't the best for recording the past pace videos.

Good news is that my airbrush is working great and my Acguy is looking great so far.

Time to start thinking about weathering on it.

October 28, 2016, 11:38 PM
Huh, did not know that the Acguy was a two-seater. Most mobile suits tend to only seat one person.

Focke Wulf
March 2, 2017, 10:30 PM
Ya I found it odd too. Maybe it's a 'special' Acguy for special ops.

Looks like photobucket is being stupid. But I have a fast build video of an MG Kampfer. Still wip. Subscribe to my channel for more gunpla videos.
