Figured i should start a wip here.

What it looks like

Test fit

I had to rebuild the back detail piece as i seem to have lost it during the move. :/ Also i will be rewiring the led's as the original kit does not light up the rear lense.http://i55.tinypic.com/2dr5k5t.jpg

November 21, 2011, 12:28 AM
replaced detail

November 21, 2011, 12:31 AM
Started painting. My goal is to finish the neck down before i finish the head.

November 21, 2011, 12:33 AM
Head Work

Pretty much where it stands right now

Slow work w/ lots of masking.

Most of the paint used is from Plamo Color and Alclad.

November 21, 2011, 1:59 AM
That is so intense. Where did you get yours. I've wanted a bust for a while.

November 21, 2011, 2:18 AM
Intense?! LOL that's a pretty strong word. XD

I was lucky enough to grab it from a member on another forum for 90 bucks. It's an original cast and is sold out everywhere. You just have to look around. You can get an sms bust of the Nu for like 70 on ebay, the one FrosenCarrotz posted a while back. For about 100 you can get a 1/24 Strike Bust. Whatcha thinking about getting? I can help you find one if you give me an idea of a suit you're thinking about. I'm always on the lookout for deals to help out forum members. ^_^

December 22, 2011, 2:59 AM
Hi all this is gonna be a fast build. Hoping to finish by Friday. It's being entered in a group build over on GE, but i still need to finish it for display at Image Anime.

Seam line removal underway. The Putty is just to fill any places that didn't fill from the glue, and to help even out uneven levels.
I actually tried removing the seams on the shoulder ball things... then realized the line is supposed to be there. :$ Easy fix with a scriber.

Pretty much doing stock colors.

Putty go byebye

December 22, 2011, 2:59 AM
Needs more putty/fixing on areas like on the arm cannon

Seam on head is gone

Got rid of that extra peg on the shield connector. I really never understood why Bandai still put's it on there. It's pointless really.

Most likely the final pose

December 22, 2011, 3:00 AM
Simple addition, added ic pins to the ends of the binders. I thought about adding more metal detail parts, but decided against it.
The backpack will be the only thing holding me up from painting. I have to paint part of the outer armor, the inside detail, then put it together and remove the seam, then respray the outside. :shakefist:

Should be painting most of the kit tomorrow.

December 22, 2011, 8:02 AM
Got rid of that extra peg on the shield connector. I really never understood why Bandai still put's it on there. It's pointless really.

I'm glad I'm not the only one who does that. It just never looks right.

December 22, 2011, 8:22 AM
Would you recommend the dra-c. Or is it too fast of a build? Whenever I look at it I think it would take almost no time at all to straight build the model.

December 22, 2011, 2:13 PM
It depends. I'm kind of rushing this as it needs to be done before new years for a store, but honestly i really like the idea and design of the suit and would love to sit down and add more detail to it. There is ALOT of modding potential. Also removing the seams and painting it for accuracy adds alot of time to the build. Snapping the kit together took me about an hour to do. It's a pretty simple build, but making it actually look good will take time. I say if you have the money and like the design, go for it. Heck even if you don't like the design, it's a great kit to scrap to use parts for another model that you wish to modify.

If you're just going to snap the kit and not remove the seams... i think it will look pretty bad as the binders are huge, and the seams go all the way down them.

December 22, 2011, 2:42 PM
I was kind of disappointed that they actually took a step backwards compared to the Zaku II F2's engineering for this kit, but I definitely want one for the sake of modding another Zaku. I'm halfway thinking of getting the Sleeves version for the sake of a Sleeves Zaku II F2.

March 3, 2012, 2:48 PM
How'd this build coming along? Would love to see this guy finished!

March 3, 2012, 3:43 PM
No kidding. I'd like to know where you guys get these. Like the Strike Freedom bust you showed Wiltonican.

March 4, 2012, 4:04 AM
No kidding. I'd like to know where you guys get these. Like the Strike Freedom bust you showed Wiltonican.
eBay have them. I see one on gkgundamkit for $120. Expect them to be expensive. They are resin kits after all. But worth it IMO. Lots of detail.

March 4, 2012, 4:07 AM
Squee, where'd you get those detail bits? Are they sold as random bits on runners? Where they at any particular scale?

May 13, 2012, 3:45 PM
Sorry for late reply. The metal parts i got from MechaSkunk before he closed his online store. The plastic ones are Kotobukiya and Wave option parts.

June 1, 2012, 7:11 PM
Figured i'd post my current wip

Building a Five Star Stories K.A.N. Beta for the GE Summer War Contest.

June 3, 2012, 11:11 PM
Building for the Summer War as well as for display for GundamPlanet.

So far almost done painting the frame.

June 4, 2012, 12:04 AM
Looking really good. I can't wait to get this kit myself. I've been wanting an awesome Mk. II kit for a very long time. If you're painting yours I can't wait to see what the rest of it is going to look like.

June 4, 2012, 12:13 AM
Man, i so can't wait to see how amazing your paint job on this kits going to be. I just finished painting mine tonight, and now i wish that i waited so that i can study yours first.

June 4, 2012, 2:11 AM
Thanks, i kind of wish it was my kit lol i'd do a bunch of simple mods to it, but the owner wants it standard. I'm still going to try to go a bit lighter in colors. XD

June 4, 2012, 1:00 PM
Lucky owner.

June 4, 2012, 3:17 PM
Lucky owner.

That's brushing the surface. The guy has a sweet collection or rare zoid kits and chogokin super robots all over his warehouse. It's a wonderland of awesomeness! lol

June 4, 2012, 6:18 PM
Man i've been wanting to get more chogokins for a while now. All i have are 2 kamen riders at the moment, does he have a site where we could view his collections? And congrats on getting more commissions Squee, your work really is showcase level.

June 4, 2012, 8:11 PM

Eh, i don't think so lol, but theres a couple of us who build for him. It's an actual store lol GundamPlanet.com.

I started adding some of the armor to the kit.

June 4, 2012, 8:32 PM
That's brushing the surface. The guy has a sweet collection or rare zoid kits and chogokin super robots all over his warehouse. It's a wonderland of awesomeness! lol

I'm listening.......rare from like TOMY? HMM? Alternate colors of standard zoids? Cause I've got a couple Zoid models, I'd be interested in hearing about them. 1 from each era, I guess? 1 TOMY and 1 HMM. Just don't tell me he's got like 5 Death Saurer's. :p

June 4, 2012, 10:14 PM
What a pain to pain the pistons. RG tech is nice but sometimes it's nice to be able to separate the parts lol

June 4, 2012, 11:31 PM
Yeah I can imagine that to be a pain to paint. But it's looking great so far.

June 6, 2012, 10:09 PM
Latest progress. My blues aren't very different :/ lol

I just have to paint the head parts and some of the metal frame/weapon parts as well as some touchups like on the thruster bells on the back. I think i'm gonna change the outside of the thruster again as it's too similar to the rest of the backpack :/

June 7, 2012, 2:15 AM
Test fitting some pieces

Some parts primed but there are some places that need to be fixed some more, like a rough edge or an edge that needs puttying so that its all even
I'm focusing more on my RG MK II but after i finish painting tomorrow, im stuck waiting on decals, so hopefully i'll start on this guy again.

June 7, 2012, 5:29 AM
This is just really an update on what i plan to do. :plotting: I can't paint my RG right now as its late at night and don't want to bother anyone with noise. So i started lightly working on this again.

While fixing parts, puttying, sanding, the usual, i notice alot of the little rivet details are kind of bland and need to be rescribed. So i figure why bother, so i'm gonna drill them out and replace the more noticable ones with new ball bearings.

On the part for the back of the neck, the wires are kind of bland so i might replace them with some copper snake wire and other types of wire to add some extra sharpness to them.

Neck Cables

June 7, 2012, 5:31 AM
Then on the chest, there are these two cable like things that go under the wider parts. One of them is much shorter than required, so while going through my metal parts collection i figured i'd use some ammo feed belt i got from mechaskunk before he closed his store.

Original parts

Feed belt

Replaced parts

Oh yea and im debating using these magnets for most of the armor pieces so they can come off, but they are pretty weak. :/ Plus if i do my dio plans, the kit will not be able to be removed again. LOL

Thats all for now i guess. LOL /end essay.

June 7, 2012, 5:45 AM
Oh yea also here are some miscellaneous Other metal option parts i might use

June 7, 2012, 7:13 AM
Looking very sharp so far. You planning to put the decals on?

June 7, 2012, 7:17 AM
It looks really cool. What exactly is it from?

June 7, 2012, 7:22 AM
Yea i'm waiting on a set of water slide decals to arrive from Samueldecals. They shipped out yesterday so hopefully i'll have them sometime next week.

June 7, 2012, 7:23 AM
It's from The Five Star Stories series.

June 8, 2012, 2:53 AM
Started to sharpen existing detail and replacing messed up parts.

June 8, 2012, 3:39 AM
Man, an FSS kit.

Love the details on it, and how you are making your subtle mods. Normally from what I usually see in the stores, they don't need much modding, but this is very nice.

June 8, 2012, 8:37 AM
Yea i'm just replacing things i think can be improved. I'm not doing anything drastic to change it's appearance. All of the metal bb's are replacing detail that looks just like it, except the recast lost some of the sharpness.

June 8, 2012, 11:35 PM
I finished adding most of the bb's to replace the detail and I figured I would try a test piece for what I'd paint the armor in. This is over white primer-it will get a base coat of gloss black before I spray the real paintwork-and with a bright light on it so you can see the blue/purple hint to the Alclad Gunmetal. It's a nice change over just gloss black. I'll end up sanding this part again anyway (still needs work) but you can see the difference. I hope lol

The middle picture is the side i didn't spray as much.

June 11, 2012, 7:26 AM
Was talking w/ another modeler and realized maybe i should upgrade the cmil of the rods i'm using for pinning. So i went from 3/16" to 2mm rods. Much more supportive.

Much more sturdy. And another random shot of sharper detail.

June 11, 2012, 7:36 AM
Very cool looking. It's head reminds me of Alien. Can't wait to see it with paint.

June 11, 2012, 11:27 AM
That blue looks spot on titans color, pretty cool. I have to agree that the pistons are a pain to get painted but the most annoying part to me was getting the mesh tubing to stay in place during assembly and when you bend the knees.

June 12, 2012, 1:28 AM
I really like those beads, detail ups
where can I get those same kinds of beads?

It looks like it's not long now until this guy is finished.

June 12, 2012, 1:31 AM
what? Samueldecals already has custom decals for the Mk2 real grade??

I'm with jaqio, your colors are spot on for the titans colors.

I can't wait till this is decaled up.

June 12, 2012, 12:47 PM
I buy them in bulk on ebay. Just search for whatever size ball bearing you need and you can find them in nice bulk orders for super cheap.

This is actually going back in the box til i finish the RG MK II.

June 12, 2012, 12:48 PM
Yea he even sells em precut. Hopefully they'll be here in a few days. I have to have this finished completely by the 27th for it's owner.

Edit* I don't really want exact Titan colors lol so i went and resprayed the lighter blue parts. :-o :D

June 14, 2012, 10:08 PM
I repainted the light blue a shade lighter. The parts are currently curing overnight so i can decal/panel wash tomorrow.

I just finished most of the remaining parts. Just have to redo the thrusters and paint the eyes and i can start on the final steps i.e. decals/lining/topcoat.

How the gun looks. Still have to buff parts of it, so forgive the slight unevenness. Also, yes that is a mold line... i thought it was part of the detail. LOL I'm just gonna leave it.

Here's the shield. You can see the the lighter blue.

June 14, 2012, 10:29 PM
I'll be darn, i swear i opted to use the same lighter blue on mine also. I assure you this is going to look pretty sweet.

June 14, 2012, 10:41 PM
Yea i've was rethinking the colors as they matched up way too much. There is a much nice contrast between the 2 blues.

*Rushed picture is blurry. :)

The new blue is Mr. Color Character Blue over the old mix.

June 14, 2012, 11:03 PM
Definitely, the contrast variation is really good when changing the main blue to a lighter version.
And your kits looking good as always man.

June 16, 2012, 12:23 AM
Started Lining and decaling. This is going to be a long process :/

These water slides are hit and miss. I really like how thin they are, but alot of the detailed wording is removed.

These should be worded, but instead are just white blocks. :/

June 16, 2012, 6:59 PM
Got some more decaling done. I had to stop cause my hands were shaking from Monster withdrawal and dealing with so many of these delicate things :/

I really hope i can finish it all this weekend or at least early in the week. I want to work on my own kits. lol

June 16, 2012, 10:02 PM
It's looking great so far man. I can't wait to see the finished product.

June 25, 2012, 12:32 AM
Almost done! Just have to do a final coat on a few more parts + 2 arm decals once built

Started assembling.

June 25, 2012, 1:15 AM
i am diggin the separated thigh colors. i am still not 100% certain how i feel about the blue but its tough to judge untill its done

June 25, 2012, 3:18 AM
I should probably take some shots without the light right on it. It really makes the blue seem lighter than it really is. Hopefully i'll have a full photo session with the finished build by Tuesday.

June 25, 2012, 7:15 AM
Awesome work man. Can't to see what it all looks like.

June 26, 2012, 12:00 AM
All finished! http://www.gundamforums.com/showthread.php/6674-RG-MK-II-Titans-Ver

June 30, 2012, 8:47 PM
I needed a break from building robots so i figured i'd start painting up my little Thousand Sunny from the Grand ship collection series. This

thing is so awesome! So much little detailed packed into a tiny kit.

Out of Box look w/ no stickers

I removed most of the seam lines last night. I still have to work on the masts and the soda thruster on the back a bit more.

I primed most of the pieces.

I want to give it actual grass and real trees. I'm going to build tiny wire skeletons for the trees.

I did one layer of the grass on the main deck. Waiting for the glue to dry a bit before i do some cleanup/add more.

And I've started on the sails. Did a base color of off white and i'm spraying bright white over it in thin coats. A few more to go. I want to give it a little bit of a clothe look.

I tried out the hull colors. I used Tamiya Hull Red and dusted it with a mist coat of Tamiya Brown. I'm thinking about changing the gold on the front. It's too bright.

June 30, 2012, 8:50 PM
One more of the Hull

And my favorite thing about abing... Same color mix, different look due to different psi and passes.

July 1, 2012, 2:02 AM
Nice! Colors look great so far. How was the build process? More like a High Grade? Does the main sail insignia use a waterslide decal or a clear sticker? What about the other markings?

July 1, 2012, 5:47 PM
I'd say it was quite a fun build. Very detailed. Yes, very similar to a HG... except not really cause it is a ship. :p Everything is stickers. The Jolly Roger is a clear sticker. Bandai's stickers have gotten thinner so i might see how it looks, or i'll just get em from Samuel Decals, even if i have to special order them.

July 1, 2012, 10:21 PM
Gdx9902 asked on Plamocon if the ship had wood grain. I wanted to try doing hand wood grain, but as i kept attempting i realize i suck at free handing the grain, so instead i settled for a wash. With a flat coat it should show up more. I put it on heavy then scrubbed it off with a toothbrush. Then i sprayed a mist coat of brown over it. It has a nice shade to it as if it's aging.

The last picture shows how cool the detail is! Rivets!

July 1, 2012, 11:25 PM
This looks really cool! I don't watch One Piece, so I initially dismissed this thread, but I decided to give it a look. Glad I did, you're doing so really cool things with this kit so far! Can't want to see the end product. So... why are there trees and grass on the ship?

July 2, 2012, 7:02 AM
The trees are Nami's the navigators orange trees from her home island. You should give the manga/anime a chance it really is fantastic.

Every piece that i primed with white primer so far has lifted after masking 2 days later. Really pissed off so i decided to give hand painting some of the wooden parts a go. I think it helped give the wood a non uniform look, and will probably be hand painting a lot of the detail instead of masking. Ignore the line of brown on the sail, that is going to be cleaned up once it's all cured.

Agh, that sucks, majorly. How long was the masking tape on the primed parts? Normally, I wouldn't leave masking tape on a painted part (to paint on a second color) overnight - if I mask something, I usually paint it right away, then peel off the tape maybe 30 minutes after painting. Sometimes if the tape leaves slight marks where the tape seams meet, a coat or two of topcoat (flat) usually remedies this.

July 2, 2012, 2:36 PM
Yea i know how to mask it's one of the few things i can say i'm pro at. lol I literally did a quick 10 second test masking. I had a feeling it was going to happen. I put the piece of tape down, and then pulled it up, and bam paint lifted. Even after removing some of the initial tack from Tamiya masking tape this still happened.

July 5, 2012, 11:04 AM
Woohoo, i really didn't want to use the Jolly Roger stickers, so i tried to make my own water slides. Scanned the Bandai sheet, and then cleaned it up in Photoshop. Luckily the bone is off-white, so my printer was able to handle it. I was initially going to send the file to SamDecals to have him print them, but wth it worked out fine on my printer. I think i'm going to be doing this alot more instead of waiting to order them. :D

Looks a little weird but that's just my lighting, they look great in hand. I'm waiting on some Micro Liquid Decal Film to seal them in.

July 7, 2012, 6:33 PM
I should have done this originally, as i tend to work on a kit then move onto something else to keep things interesting. If the mods want can they combine my other wip's with this one? lol

Right now i'm working on a HGUC gouf custom that i'm entering in G.E.'s Summer War contest. I'm hoping to finish it before the end of September so i can also enter it into GBWC @ NYCC.

This will be combining aspects from 2 things i really like. Gundam (Gouf) and Gutts from Berserk

Added some detail under the ankle armor area.

Cut up the sword and used part of a sword from a Kotobukiya

Cut up the Gatling gun from the Dra C. I'm probably going to rework this. Might use the original kits barrels.

Extended the skirt armor

Built a sad little cover for around the ammo tank

July 7, 2012, 6:35 PM
Cut the torso down the middle to widen it as well as build up the new skirts with sculting putty followed by mr. surfacer 500. Lots of sanding soon.

July 9, 2012, 8:58 PM
Cut up the backpack. I'm probably going to be using some resin can thrusters i have left over to give it a nice bulky feel.

Started laying out how i'm going to be posing the kit. I'm debating lengthening the legs if only to allow more bend. I'm going to mark off the placement of the feet and angle of the right foot so i can make a little terrain base.

At first i thought of using magnets to attach it to the base, but then i realized why bother, i don't plan on removing it alot, so instead i just used pins.

July 11, 2012, 7:01 PM
I'm pretty slow at modifying... I R Sloppy. XD Going to have alot of cleanup later on.

Put some pistons on the cannon arm. I had to cut down the elbow and build up the gun itself. I still have to cover the gap at the joint. Will be building something up.

Also i made the backpack bigger, as it wouldn't be a sound design to have the ammo container directly under the thrusters. XD

July 16, 2012, 12:42 AM
Doing a quick snap/touchups of the Crystal MG Quan[T]

I see why people buy these, it's really nice clear parts.

August 5, 2012, 6:18 PM
The work i did yesterday. I stained and did a single coat of polyurethane on the base. Going to do a few more coats on the edges so i can mask and start building up the base.

As it stands now

Added another thin styrene layer to make the inner lining thicker

I cut off all of the side parts on the legs. I'm debating making them thicker or building something else to replace them. I might just keep them removed and fill in the empty space and leave it blank. I kind of like the slimmed legs.

August 5, 2012, 6:19 PM
Put bigger thrusters and fixed the angle so they avoid the ammo canister better

Built up the top of the torso. Filled in the gaps around the neck plate.

Since i had to cut off the cockpit hatch i'm building a new one with more angular proportions. Need to sand and build up more of it with putty. Then im going to drill out the spaces for the clear parts from the original part.

Lots of cleanup.

August 5, 2012, 6:20 PM
I've been working on the legs tonight while the putty sets up some more on the upper torso parts
I put about 1.5mm's of plates on top of the ankle skirt part. Same for the vent things on the sides of the legs. There are a bunch of little spots that need puttying still that is due to cutting the parts apart. I also gave the edges of the base a couple of coats of black for a base color for marbling.

August 5, 2012, 6:22 PM

I started doing the basics of the wiring i'd be adding. I plan on wiring up the back thrusters, the monoeye, and maybe the cockpit but the cockpit is still being shaped. I might leave the orange parts out.

I cut into the base and leg to run the wiring needed. I want to be able to run the power underneath the base, but also be able to remove the figure without a problem. To do so, i added icpins in the feet to act as male connectors. I'm going to build a small box around them to make sure they stay separated, but this pic is just a test run.

In the base, i drilled a nice hole (which i'll be filling around later) and put a double female plug from a H.D.D. led set up i picked up at my local electronics spot.

I chiseled out a pathway underneath the base to run the wire. This is only the first step as i just wanted to get the right depth for the channel. I'm going to cut out where that arrow is for a battery box.

Here's how the base looks uptop. I'm looking at my Reed switches and they might be too big. I need to go pick up some push button switches which might fit my needs better.

August 5, 2012, 6:23 PM
And last pic of how the wiring is going so far. This is just a test run for drilling through the body. Working on the knee joint right now.

Did my first real attempt at marbling. I think it turned out okay. I'm debating what color to paint it, leaning towards red, but i have to think about it. I drybrushed on modelmasters chrome silver, and in a few spots i hit it with some mm gold. Once the paint cures a bit more i'm going to hit it a bit with thinner to get rid of some of the cloudy silver.

Marble attempthttp://i18.photobucket.com/albums/b128/Grifith/models/f1582a40.jpg

Really wish you could put more than 4 pictures per post...

August 5, 2012, 10:49 PM
i have to agree with you on the only 4 pictures thing... quite ridiculous. lookin good though got a heavy arms feel to it if you can say that about a zeek.

August 5, 2012, 11:51 PM
Wow. Can't wait to see this project all painted and lit up. Looking good man.

August 6, 2012, 3:51 AM
I am enjoying all this progress. I love the base you're working on especially.

August 6, 2012, 4:09 PM
Thanks for the kind words.

SFA... I went ahead and decided on red. Still needs some more gloss clear coat. :D So happy with how this turned out!

August 7, 2012, 7:34 AM
Love the red on the base. Looks a lot like a form of fire.

August 7, 2012, 10:31 PM
Nothing major, but i applied a 2 part urethane clear coat to it from Monster Kolor. Recently learned about this paint from my friend enderwiggen on here. The paints are gorgeous and when the clear cures, it's as hard as a rock!

August 8, 2012, 7:14 AM
I can tell just from that picture that it's got quiet a shine to it. Very nice good sir.

August 9, 2012, 11:58 PM
As i build the Gouf, i am also working on a Bandai R3 Heavy Metal L Gaim MK II for the Summer War on GE, as well as for GundamPlanet.

This is the kit for any who are interested.

How the kit looks all snapped up

Really cool Binders

I originally painted the frame Brass, but the owner didn't like how it looked, he wanted the more natural leather brown of the lineart.

The brown on that piston is the original plastic color. The frame is supposed to be lighter than the foot/hand armor.

Repainted the frame and here's how it looks right now. Tomorrow i'll be giving it a wash to help highlight all that detail. It's all going to be hidden, so i most likely will stop doing the extra work with the detailing.

Kind of mad, the primer weakened the plastic. Some of the joints have started cracking, and i've had to glue them as i assemble the painted parts.

August 10, 2012, 7:53 PM
I started testing colors on the armor. I sprayed a dark greyish blue mix i made, then went over it with MR. Color Gundam Color MS White. I really think it matches up well with the stock images, but i have to wait on the owners opinion before i go further.

The head inner frame painted/assembled. I love this design!! I didn't paint the cables due to them being rubber. Don't want to chance them chipping. I'll just be panel lining them and topcoating.

The inner frame of the leg is looking at me:

August 13, 2012, 6:57 PM
I needed a break from more focused builds and decided to try to finish the SD Knight Gundam in a week or so.

Everywhere i look, i always see a regular Knight Gundam, but i want to try out some stuff i've been messing with lately.

Using some of the weapons from this set (http://i18.photobucket.com/albums/b128/Grifith/models/85eb6438.jpg), i made the lance longer.

I filled in most of the bigger obvious gaps. I'm going to cut up the lance and make the tip longer as well.

And i did a test piece on my replacement for the blue parts.

Ignore the orange peel, i'm going to sand this down/polish it.

I'm probably going to use something other than chrome for the armor parts. I have plenty of high shine finishes but i just don't want to go chrome. Might use some of my kosutte ginsan since i never use it, but i want a darker look to it.

August 14, 2012, 10:13 PM
I made the lance about an inch longer. I cut it down by the base inside. I then added a cut plastic tube i cut off of a mechanical pencil for support inside. It looks uneven in the design... I might just remove the ridges. I like the new length.

August 17, 2012, 3:30 PM
Did some more modifying of the lance. Also filled in the slot on the cape for the lance holster. Won't be needing it.

Also, thanks to some help from a friend (who makes paint for a living) i finally got the right shade of red i wanted for the L Gaim MK II!:D

August 17, 2012, 3:36 PM
looking good! can't wait to see the SDKG finished up :)

August 17, 2012, 4:40 PM
Thanks! I've been messing around with the yellow parts. I ended up settling on mr. color GX yellow, with Monster kolor fleshless over it. Here's how it looks on part of the shield:

I need to coat it all with urethane to make it gloss and sparkle more. The fleshless has a pearl look to it that really shines when you gloss it.

August 17, 2012, 11:35 PM
Done messing with the kit for the night.

Here's how the head looks right now, ignore that yellow t on the back, some dust got on the paint as it was drying, but i don't really care since once i put the helmet on, it's never coming off again.

I redid the shoulder armor. I initially tried to cut out the thicker parts and leave the bars, but they just all snapped off. So instead, i replace it with mesh.

August 18, 2012, 12:29 AM
I'm loving the purple man. Looks really great.

August 23, 2012, 5:35 PM
I haven't really touched this in awhile. I was waiting on some gm heads to come in the mail from my friend Caboose. I can't seem to find my other extra guntank head. :/ I'm going to keep searching, but i am using them to hide the switch for the led's.

I'm putting a push button switch under them. Started cutting up styrofoam for a base to put plaster over. The plastic wrap is a trick i got from a guy on GE named Ingenhk. Keeps the base nice and clean and easier to work on.

edit* Plaster. Once dry, I'll sand, and then use some white stone clay to add to it.

Looks like icing. XD

August 23, 2012, 7:27 PM
Everything looks so good. I really admire you patients and creativity, it takes all my efforts just to paint mine letalone mod the hell out of them.

August 23, 2012, 7:35 PM
^Thanks! I just went to town on my gm heads. :D

I will be going into them and beating them up some more. I need to buy some bone colored paint.

September 3, 2012, 6:04 PM
After i pulled up the masking, it pulled up the urethane topcoat and chipped. That's what i get for using KO Tamiya tape. Tricked by Amazon.com lol

I can't wait to do a full base like this.

So i redid the base in a darker red. Used Alclad Clear Red this time which is much darker. I also used Mr. Color Brass or some gold touches to the design..

Also finished drilling/wiring through the leg up to the chest. Glued most of the pieces in place so now i can start filling in gaps.

I also added some rivets, but went a size too big, so i'll just be using big ones to emphasize certain areas. I'm going for a similar finish to what i did on my Big O (http://www.gundamforums.com/showthread.php/6036-The-Big-O) model.

I also got around to finally painting parts for the L Gaim MK II backpack

The colors look different under different lighting lol.

Under a close lamp:

Under normal lighting:

This is done with a gloss black base followed by blue angel mm enamel with some black mixed in.

Thanks for viewing, comments and critiques always appreciated.

September 6, 2012, 7:46 PM
Man that blue came out great.

September 6, 2012, 9:38 PM
Yea i really like the way it ended up. Sad thing is i should have just masked the clear parts and glued the pieces before i painted. I did it after and ended up having to sand most of the paint off to get it all smooth. lol. So right now i'm repainting.

September 6, 2012, 9:45 PM
Well one thing you can say is it never gets boring. I'm always learning something everytime i work on a kit, but i'm only on my 5th painted kit so i have lots to learn.

September 6, 2012, 10:24 PM
Normally i wouldn't have to do so much but the seams didn't seal so well. Usually it would just be touching up on the fixed seam lines. It's that old bandai plastic lol i should have used stronger glue.

September 6, 2012, 11:08 PM
everything is lookin good so far squee, also I really like how that base turned out. I been meaning to ask you but do you post some of your other work on a different gunpla site? I was just by chance browsing another site and saw another member with the same handle I was just curious if this was by coincidence or its a popular name handle.

September 6, 2012, 11:19 PM
Yea I post on alot of sites. :) There is a guy who started using it on Philippines boards but quit (Ruined my handle lol) so sometimes i use another name.

My main board/home board is Gundam Eclipse.

September 9, 2012, 1:57 AM
Really trying to get the gouf done in time for Comicon. Just a little over a month left. I don't think i'll be able to finish in time. School work is kick my @$$! I've been trying to at least sand and fill what i can when i get some spare time.

Tonight i did hopefully the last filling on the backpack and gun on the LGMKII. Also filled in the gaps on the gouf but that will require alot more work. It would be nice to finish the LGMKII by next weekend when i go to visit the GP warehouse, but i doubt it.

I have to still paint up the binders, and that includes all of those little parts inside of each one.

I have to paint all of those little parts-they're all single pieces-inside the open hatch that x 4! lol

September 17, 2012, 10:00 PM
I normally don't mind prepping a kit... but holy crap, i will never complain again. To get rid of nub marks, i'm sanding every armor piece w/ 800 then 1000 then 1500. Then i gotta hit each piece w/ high gloss, then i gotta polish each piece.:banghead: Should be worth it though.

Parts on the left are done with the first stage of sanding, still have to do all the right ones. Then i gotta do it all over again. lol

And for the L gaim, I redid the backpack parts. Fixed all the seams which kept opening.
I really like the new color i did. The red is different from the rest of the red parts. Manual calls more burgundy, so i used the Gundam Color Char Red for it.

I need to do some detail painting and topcoat before i remove the masking on the windows on the skinny piece.

September 18, 2012, 12:33 AM
Your patience with the prep work is simply astonishing and it shows with what we're seeing here so far. I think it's inspiring too.

September 18, 2012, 7:47 AM
^Thanks for the kind words! :p Always nice to be complimented. hehe

I finally finished the first round of sanding. i tested a piece by dipping it in future floor polish, doesn't look to bad. I'm probably going to skip to 1500 grit paper. I didn't realize i was using 1000 already. I'm still debating on whether to spray some more clear colors before i gloss it. Guess i'll test on a runner. I'm also thinking about using some Mr. Crystal color paints i bought a few years back. But i'm torn. It's supposed to be a crystal kit. Sparkles might be too much.

September 23, 2012, 3:42 PM
I need to finish something that can at least attempt to win at CC so i'm trying to finish the sd knight in about 2 weeks.
All of them main body parts are primed, tomorrow/today i'll prime all the red parts. Right now i'm working on the weapons. On top of the regular sword/shield i'm thinking about using some from that set i got. So right now i'm removing slots and pegs so they look better. Also, since my new lance is kind of uneven, i'm going to make my own interpretation of a real lance. Even added a fist. XD

Possible replacement sword

Possible replacement shield

I don't know about the sword/shield, might just use the shield. Although i might use the regular shield since i already painted it lol. Any opinions? I'll paint em all up and then decide i guess.

My new lance. I love this XD Took a resin hand i'll never use that i bought a few years back. Glued it to the tip and wrapped metal wire behind it. Going to paint it in a rope color.

September 24, 2012, 10:59 PM
Painted all of the armor parts. Got some dust in a few pieces, going to have to lightly sand and repaint.

September 25, 2012, 12:07 AM
damn that looks really clean ^ I like your paint job, so smooth and very nice tone of the chrome

September 25, 2012, 12:37 AM
Yea i wish i didn't get dust in it. There are a bunch of little errors that i need to touch up mostly because my airbrush has been acting up. I need to give it a good cleaning.

Also, i used Mr. Color Super Iron for the main armor. I love the dark tone of it.

September 25, 2012, 12:42 AM
I've heard that making an SD kit look amazing can be very challenging despite their small overall size. Seeing what you're doing here is proof of that, but the quality of the results really shines.

September 25, 2012, 8:15 PM
Thanks for the compliment, although sd's aren't that bad. I like them mainly so i can try out new ideas on them before i transfer it to a bigger kit.

i have most of it together. I need to do some touch ups, and mask the hooves. Also working on the Shield/Javelin and i need to paint the little base.

September 26, 2012, 10:35 AM
looks good! thinking that the 'super iron' color might go better than the titanium coat i was considering for a new project.

September 26, 2012, 11:13 AM
I agree with Remus that Super Iron is lookin nice and I like that its not too over-shiny or blan.

September 27, 2012, 5:20 AM
Hi Squee! Keep up the good work. Wanted to let you know that some of your work has inspired me on ideas for some of my projects. :)

October 7, 2012, 2:21 PM
^That's awesome to hear.

Right now i'm trying to quickly assemble and panel/flatcoat MG Buster by Tuesday.

The cannon is so huge! Put a penny near it for scale. ^_^

October 7, 2012, 3:34 PM
That is one big cannon.

October 7, 2012, 6:05 PM
damn that is a massive cannon, its two pieces put together right?

October 8, 2012, 1:38 AM
Yea thats when both cannons combine. The buster is all snapped, lined, and stickered. Will be flatcoating it tomorrow. SD Knight is pretty much done as well. Just waiting on the base to cure so i can pack it up for comicon this weekend.

Pic is out of focus, but it's really to show how long the new lance is/the sweet fist XD

October 8, 2012, 3:22 AM
comicon this weekend.
I think you're a few months late haha, I'm gonna assume you just mean a comic convention.

Either way the Knight looks great.

October 8, 2012, 3:26 AM
NO, I mean the NY Comicon the biggest convention on the East coast. There are 2 big comicons a year. The one in California, and the one in NY.

October 8, 2012, 11:03 AM
Oh, did not know that. My bad, have fun then! Was gonna go a few years ago to the San Diego one but my friend sold the ticket I was gonna buy from him.

October 8, 2012, 12:30 PM
yeah The NY Con is almost as big as the Cali con just not many people know about the NY one because it doesn't seem to get as much advertisement as the SDCC one does.

October 12, 2012, 2:22 PM
SD Knight looks sweet, i was lucky enough to go to SDCC a couple of years ago it cost a pretty penny, is the one in ny just as good it would be a lot cheaper to fly to New York than California

October 19, 2012, 2:03 AM
Started working on my HMM Gunsniper for the GE Zoid Group Build

Part prepping and some black base coating.

I have been trying out Mr. Disolver Putty. I LOVE this stuff. Cures pretty fast, and sands away nicely. I've been using it to fix nub and stress marks, as well as dips in the plastic.

Bottom is Before and Top is After

Here was the beginnings of the base originally. I might scrap it or at least build up parts of it.

Painted the zoid core. I might spray it with a clear color to make the silver a candy.

October 22, 2012, 12:47 AM
I felt like adding some detail. Cut off the top pieces on the spine and put in some screw parts. I also separated the top armor pieces. Those 2 green parts used to be one.

Working on the head.

Lots of masking for all of the detail this thing has!

October 23, 2012, 1:26 AM
Painted a bunch of the frame parts. Now comes the fun part of masking like crazy to change some shades on all of that detail. Still waiting on some acrylics from PlamoUk, so i'll do what i can for now. :/

A few of these are supposed to be buff type metalizers, but i like the look of them rough.

October 23, 2012, 9:51 AM
Don't have any experience with Zoids. But that is looking pretty awesome.

October 23, 2012, 11:00 AM
Hi squee:

The zoid project looks awesome. When I was in my early teens I loved collecting zoids and building them. Unfortunately they were destroyed in a fire, to my chagrin, and to my parent's apathy. I wouldn't mind tackling a kit in the future, now that I have proper building experience.

October 23, 2012, 11:10 AM
^Yea i still have a bunch of my old Tomy ones. I just gave away my shadow fox to my best friend due to the new one from the Kotobukiya Highend Master Model (HMM) line coming out at the end of the month! These new zoid kits from Kotobukiya are honestly some amazing kits. The bigger kits, like the Dark Horn and Iron Kong are as complicated if not more detailed than a Bandai PG Kit.

October 26, 2012, 1:28 AM
First round of detailing is done. I'm really trying my best to do as much as i can w/o hand painting.

I'm going to give all of the green a Enamel Gloss coat so that i can spray some acrylics i have coming from PlamoUK and reverse wash them away.

October 26, 2012, 8:43 AM
I may not say it frequently, but I love your work, Squee.

October 28, 2012, 12:41 AM
Thanks for the love! :D

Todays update:

I'm using Monster Kolor Military Tan to give a nice contrast to the green. I ordered some paint from PlamoUk and had Kyle mix me up a nice batch of this military style gold that i found that goes great with the green, that i'll be using on the plugs.

Intentionally gritty, going to add some weathering to a few parts.

October 28, 2012, 2:26 AM
The detail you have put forth onto this ZOID is amazing man. Looking great.

October 28, 2012, 6:56 PM
Thanks thwalker13! Sadly i had to pull my spraybooth exhaust in from my window, so i can't really paint while i ride out the coming hurricane/whatever they're calling it now.
I don't have many acrylics in the color i want, so i'll probably just study for class (notice my priorities ) the next couple of days.

I was able to use some Enamel Chrome to do some of the little details. Also got some Super Metallic gold hand painted on a few areas. The green looks so ugly with the gloss coat on it, but i sprayed a quick coat to protect from cleanup. Can't wait to give it a flat coating so that it goes away.

Debating whether to paint my new added screws to match the other metals or just leave em.

I still have to paint that weird piston in there. :/

October 28, 2012, 7:48 PM
That is some great looking detail work my friend. I'd say leave the screws the way they are. Looks really good that way.

October 28, 2012, 9:43 PM
It really does look amazing. I'm also in the camp of leaving the screws as is; adds an extra effect to my eyes. Makes me wish I did more with my Berserk Fuhrer.

October 28, 2012, 11:36 PM
Thanks guys, i did a few more touches tonight. Finally get to use some decal sheets i ordered awhile ago.

I've been practicing my handpainting on a miniature i picked up at NYCC a few weeks ago.

Where i have it now

It's nice to not have to mask for once. LOL

November 1, 2012, 5:08 PM
The GE Summer War constest is over in a little over 3 days. I know i wont finish in time, but using the deadline will help drive me to do as much as i can, so i started painting more of the L Gaim MK II

Almost done with the backpack

I started putting the all of the little cartridges (about 30) that go inside the binders on skewers... Not fun at all. lol

November 1, 2012, 5:40 PM
not sure what those zoid things are, but it looks great. as well as your minifig.

November 4, 2012, 12:08 AM
Thanks remus! I did a couple of washes and highlighted the edges of different stones.

This is really my first miniature so there are errors.

Big pics, sorry, forgot to resize em from my phone.

And how it looked before i painted.

I'm tempted to stick a hook in it to make a keychain out of it. I need more activator for my urethane so i can really seal it to protect from scratching though. The outhouse is next. Just waiting on it to dry from a soap bath.

November 4, 2012, 1:34 AM
Excellent work on that minifig. Those errors must be pretty miniscule if they don't detract from the quality of the end result. I'm curious, what size brush did you use for it? Just one size throughout or different sizes?

November 4, 2012, 1:47 AM
The main grey is airbrushed. I Everything else is hit using a regular thin brush. I really only use 2 brushes for hand painting (which i avoid whenever possible!) I used the same brush for everything, the highlights on the edge of stones, all of the washes, the metals, etc, but for the eyes i used a 000 brush.

November 4, 2012, 10:29 AM
That is some amazing detail man. That is crazy awesome.

November 4, 2012, 11:24 PM
Was getting hassled on GE about finishing this, so i started working on it again. It'll probably be boxed again. Waiting on more magnets, but i've added some to the armor so i can take it off when i need to. Icould only do one full shoulder with what i had left.

Also, can a mod please combine this thread with my wip thread?

November 5, 2012, 7:36 AM
Threads fused. "We made him twice as powerful, twice as deadly!"

November 5, 2012, 10:29 AM
Thanks Squeam. I tend to work randomly on kits so one thread is much more appropriate lol

November 6, 2012, 9:55 PM
Man you have model ocd how many kits you working and where do you find the time. The minitures are looking good.

November 9, 2012, 1:13 AM
Hmm... i currently have 4 open boxes on my desk. Doing the Gunsniper, the K.A.N. Beta, the LGaim MK II and the GunplaExpo Clear MG Quant right now. I used to only be able to work on one kit at a time. Then i discovered the massive amount of sites that sell kits, and message boards to see kits i want. Now i need to switch otherwise i lose interest.

I spend maybe an hour or 2 every other day on kits. he LGaim and the Quant were commissioned by the owner of Gundamplanet so i have to work on them otherwise i'd only have 2 kits on my table. XD

Tiny update. I still can't paint any of my kits that are waiting for painting (paint should arrive this weekend), so i fixed a part of the arm that i forgot i broke. The wrist armor rests on these pegs. The arm fell off my desk and chipped. I don't know what happened to the broken part (it's been months since i last touched the part) so i rebuilt the support with styrene. Currently its covered in 500 surfacer so i can sand it down tomorrow nice and symmetrical.

P.s. I tend to have alot more time and money since i dumped my exgf lol

November 10, 2012, 12:25 PM
Man Squee! Your skilled at the whole spectrum of this hobby! impressive work as always.

November 10, 2012, 7:22 PM
Thanks lol It's all pretty much the same thing.

Started painting some details:

The Fiery orange needs to be sanded a bit and repainted, didn't notice the rough undercoat. The yellow pegs were a bit when when i tried putting them on... need to strip/sand it to get rid of my fingerprint.

All of my hand painted stuff needs another coat or two.

November 10, 2012, 9:02 PM
That thing is looking really awesome man.

November 11, 2012, 10:47 PM
Outhouse is almost done. Just needs a coat of flat

I want to say what the actual title of figure is called but it is a curse. OMFG has this figured labeled as the Phantom $#1^house. XD

November 11, 2012, 11:40 PM
That's a nice looking Phantom @#$#house, haha. How did you do the basecoat for it? Two colors?

November 11, 2012, 11:47 PM
Primed it, airbrushed it with gloss black. Then hit it with brown in the ab. Hand painted the green and red. After which i did an enamel black wash then dry brushed the yellows and the lighter browns.

November 12, 2012, 12:46 AM
That is one awesome poop hut there man. I only wish I could detail that well.

November 18, 2012, 1:05 AM
Outhouse is done. Here's a few pics.

I really wish i bought the whole set of these guys. Might buy them on ebay. I really want a Stroll

November 19, 2012, 11:55 PM
I got so much painting in on Sunday it was great!!! Almost done with the Lgaim. At this point i really need to paint up the guns and panel wash this guy.

I had fun repainting the head as it is now. When i was giving it a gloss clear coat... some lacquer thinner dripped on the head!

Was very scary masking a huge cape around the neck area to protect from overspray. The head armor is glued on and the frame has weakened from painting so i didn't want to chance breaking something taking it apart.

Also got some work done on Gunsniper.

December 10, 2012, 1:17 AM
Studying and writing lab reports has been draining me, two more weeks and then i can focus more on building. I needed a break so Friday/Saturday i spent a few hours snapping my RG justice just to have something to build. Also started panel washing the LGaim. Need to do another one due to removing a bit too much when cleaning the wash.

Once the 21st passes, i think i'm gonna buckle down and try to finish the Lgaim and my Gunsniper before the year is out!

December 10, 2012, 1:45 PM
The RG Justice is looking good man. Are you planning on putting on the 1,000 decals that comes with it?

December 10, 2012, 2:14 PM
It was just a snap job for now. It's gonna sit on a shelf like that for awhile.

My painting qeue right now is:

Lgaim and Gunsniper
Then MG QUANT Crystal ver and FSS K.A.N. Beta

Once i finish all of those i'll get back to my gouf custom and maybe start on this.

December 18, 2012, 6:12 PM
Another snapped kit really quickly. Such an awesome build!

December 18, 2012, 7:50 PM
That is one crazy looking wolf. Though the black and gold really looks good.

December 18, 2012, 7:56 PM
That is one crazy looking wolf. Though the black and gold really looks good.

It's a fox :-P

Looks good, any crazy paint ideas for this?

December 18, 2012, 7:59 PM
I have a bunch of mods i plan to do to this and a great color scheme in mind for it, but it won't be happening for a long time. lol

December 18, 2012, 8:02 PM
Alright, well I look forward to it. The episode where Brad stole the Shadow Fox is one of my favorites.

December 18, 2012, 8:30 PM
Yea i've been waiting years for this HMM to be made! I need to compare it to my old Tomy Shadow Fox and take pics. XD

December 25, 2012, 3:14 PM
Got back to working on Crystal MG QuanT:

Polished all of the armor parts with Tamiya Fine compound. I was going to hit it with finish but i think i'll wait until after the gloss.

Soaked the parts overnight to help remove any leftover compound.

Scrubbed the parts with a brush to make sure it was all off and they're now drying.
The polish really helped with any nub marks.

A few coats of gloss and i can can decal gloss/buff and wax! :D

Edit* Just did a test.

Before gloss on left After on right! Worked out great!

December 25, 2012, 8:22 PM
Woah, that wolf looks awesome!

December 25, 2012, 9:00 PM
Those are some awesome looking parts man. Can't wait to this shiny Gundam all put together.

December 26, 2012, 7:56 PM
2 coats of gloss so i can apply decals

1 coat, but i ran out of gloss for the rest :-x

Also tested the moonstone pearl on a part to see how it'd look with some pearl. Don't really like it. It's the one on the left.

December 26, 2012, 9:29 PM
Seems to have created a sparkly, milky coating. The one on the right looks a ton better.

December 26, 2012, 9:46 PM
Whoa, crystalized MG 00 Quanta! Never seen that before. Could that be a limited edition??

December 26, 2012, 9:56 PM
Yea i agree thwalker, the moonstone is supposed to go over black or white paint, not clear parts. I have some tamiya pearl in a can. i just tested it... works waaaay better. I think i'll pick up another can to spray with when i buy some clear tomorrow (hopefully) at image anime. I need to ask the kits owner if it's cool though lol

Voltes: Yea it's a limited edition kit from the Gunpla Expo. Cheapest i've found it for is $135US on Ebay

Here's the Tamiya pearl on white. It is more prominent irl:

On the blue... not so much:

Final update for the night:

I love how it's coming out!

December 27, 2012, 1:53 AM
Wow the clear parts over the silver looks awesome man. Love that look!

December 29, 2012, 2:31 AM
Frame is mostly done.

Didn't get to Image to buy gloss. I realized i have a full bottle of alclad gloss i don't use. I'm gonna try it on the armor. No chance of it damaging paint since it's just clear parts. XD

December 29, 2012, 12:41 PM
The frame is looking awesome man. That will really make those clear parts stand out.

December 30, 2012, 2:30 AM
Hard to make out, and it doesn't look like a real update, but all the decaling is done!

Going to hit them all with some setter again in the morning, and hopefully get another coat of gloss in. Then i just need to lightly polish and hit with some wax and i'm finished! Woo

December 31, 2012, 3:42 AM
Did another coat of gloss on 00. For the past hour or so, i tried my hand at painting the Lgaims figures. Kits owner kind of insisted i at least try. :/

Need to touch up some of the yellow and red.

Also hit up the armor with some alclad clear smoke to give it some darker areas. I need to respray that right shoulder thing and the torsos bay door again because i accidentally went too heavy. :/

Also the little hoverbike cockpit thingy:

Still need to do some paneling. There are little parts on the red that need some grey.

January 1, 2013, 1:11 PM
Almost done. I have to respray the green effect parts due to dust getting on them. Otherwise it'd be finished.

January 1, 2013, 2:45 PM
That is one awesome looking Quanta good sir. Those clear parts over the silver really make that thing pop.

January 1, 2013, 3:27 PM
Thanks! It's the same Super Iron i used on my sd knight gundam. I wanted something shiney but not silver or chrome. I think it was a great compromise. ^_^

January 1, 2013, 5:02 PM
Almost done. I have to respray the green effect parts due to dust getting on them. Otherwise it'd be finished.

Daaaaaaaaaaaamn. I'm blinded by the awesomeness.

January 2, 2013, 1:46 AM
Working on the bases for the Lgaim and QuanT

A friend on GE pointed out that the LGaims base is the top of the carrier from the show so i'm trying to get it to look like the old kit.

January 3, 2013, 9:18 AM
In the final stretch for the Quant... I felt the base for the sword was too boring so i gave it a little extra work. Still needs touch ups on the vents and i removed a drop of paint from an edge by accident. Need to mask and respray.

January 3, 2013, 9:28 AM
Still looks awesome man. Wow did you achieve that metallic blue? If you don't mind me asking.

January 3, 2013, 9:42 AM
Never a problem saying how i do stuff lol unless it's for a contest.

It's Alclads new(ish) Bright Silver Candy base with their transparent blue over it. I was going to use their new candy gold (only one of their candy specific clears i have) but i didn't feel like it would work well for the kit. I went with white for the main color so that you could pretend that the kit standing on the Ptolemaios. ^_^

January 3, 2013, 10:54 AM
It looks great man. Yeah I think the silver was the right choice. It does look like Ptolemaios, nice work good sir.

January 3, 2013, 11:46 AM
The quant looks bad ass. How does the alclad candies work i was looking into getting some for a future kit. You mentioned Image. Is that Image anime in new york city, if so i went in there on vaction and could only dream of having a store like that here.

January 3, 2013, 12:13 PM
Yea, Image Anime recently got a great shipment of Mr. Color, and their prices for it are great. They give me a deal too when i buy a bunch of pots of paint. The QuanT is technically a commission for the owner of Gundam Planet though.

I have yet to truly use the candies, but it's the same as any other paint from them. Gloss black base coat. Bright Candy Silver Base over that. Their candies are not lacquer like their normal clears however. They're enamel based so they will take much longer to cure than their regular clears. The blue i used is regular Transparent Blue.

January 3, 2013, 5:06 PM
Finished the base! Just need to line it. Hard to see, but the arm is alclad magnesium.

I really just took this picture to see how my new backdrop cloth i just bought would look. XD

Also, lots of progress on L Gaim MK II. Just have to finish the BFG.

Had to do this shot, as a tribute to the first episode. :D

January 6, 2013, 7:17 AM
I am in LOVE with that base, and the other project you are working on. Nice job!

January 6, 2013, 12:22 PM
Thanks Jfl0, the owner loved the base as well! Currently, i am planning on a quick build of the Beginning J Gundam. I'm hoping to finish it in a few days, but this kit is going to be masking HELL! SO many circle parts that need to be red :/

January 7, 2013, 7:59 PM
Speed building/painting the Beginning J. This is how much i have done so far since yesterday. There are a bunch of other parts painted but didn't feel like taking pic of single parts. I have about 10 parts to mask and paint left.

My goal is to finish by Wednesday. ^_^

January 13, 2013, 10:53 PM
I've been hustling to finish this kit.

I about 85% done. The legs limbs and weapons are really holding me up. So much masking. I'm getting sick of it!

These pieces are ready for some paneling.

Some assembly. Those pods on the back need to be masked and a seam removed but i just wanted to see how it'd all look together.

January 13, 2013, 11:54 PM
Glad to see this kit of yours is still happening and whoa, it's looking beautiful. I'd kill to have my paint jobs come out looking like that. Soooo shiny and smooth-looking, at least judging from the pics, haha.

January 14, 2013, 1:53 PM
90 % of the pieces are pretttttty smooth lmao. I did do some prep before i painted on a few of the armor parts for some weathering i plan to do first. I need to take pics of this kit before i weather it for some people who don't want to see it weathered XD

January 14, 2013, 8:10 PM

All this masking makes me want to cry!

January 15, 2013, 7:58 PM
I was looking at a great resin Metal Gear Rex build and it gave me enough inspiration to do what i thought about months ago. Some minor camo markings. I'm going to add some grey to the orange as well.

January 15, 2013, 8:12 PM
Oooh, subtle, but works really well. How did you go about painting the camo? I thought those parts were already done so I'm just curious.

January 15, 2013, 9:28 PM
Lots of masking tape lol

January 17, 2013, 12:06 AM
Leg is almost done... FINALLY. Just need to paint that inner piston and then i can finally start weathering the kit. ^_^

January 17, 2013, 12:34 AM
That is one very detailed looking leg man.

January 17, 2013, 2:03 AM
That is some extreme masking going on there. I totally understand how it can be annoying though, I've done just a little of it. And zoids kits as detailed as they are with there endless plates can take forever to fully paint.
Amazing work by the way Squee.

January 18, 2013, 12:44 AM
Almost done w/ the gunsniper. Still painting up the weapons and started working on the base.

I wish i had more trees but i'm gonna try to make it work. Going to try adding a water effect but i don't know how it'll turn out.

January 18, 2013, 5:58 PM
I'm cracking down on the base! Still playing around with how i'm going to do the water. I am leaning towards using silicone since i'm being cheap. XD. Most of the base colors are down. Need to add some little bushes and moss on that rock.

January 18, 2013, 7:44 PM
Looking awesome man. Both the base and the mech look insanely detailed.

January 18, 2013, 8:12 PM
You have the patients of a saint. Looks incrediable man.

January 18, 2013, 9:28 PM
hole e crap, that gunsniper. I can't wait until this is finished!

January 18, 2013, 11:35 PM
Thanks for the kind words gents! Here's what i finished tonight. I need to go to bed to get up early. :/

Sprayed the trees with some green, then yellow, then orange, to help give them a better look.

Added some sand to the bank. I need to get some sealer over that so i can add some paint to darken it. Also added some "moss" to the rock. I'll be flattening it to make it look smaller (hopefully). Headed to Home Depot tomorrow to pick up some clear resin for the water, so i made a tiny barrier around the edge to protect from any seepage. It will be a very small amount, like a really thick layer of paint, so i only used dymo tape. XD Should be more than enough.

January 19, 2013, 6:14 PM
I couldn't get the clear resin, so i went ahead with silicone. My first attempt didn't turn out as great as i wanted. Looked too choppy. So i did another layer. I couldn't get it as smooth as i would have liked, so instead of a calm stream, now it's either a bubbling brook or the beginnings of a rapids LOL

January 19, 2013, 6:46 PM
Still looks really good man. I think it looks a bit better that way. Gives more dimension to the water.

January 19, 2013, 7:06 PM
Well i was going to add ripples but nothing as drastic as this! My test piece looked sooo good to. lol

January 21, 2013, 12:55 AM
Final update. Next pics will be in a finished thread. I just need to finish painting the trim on the outside, and finish the weapons. Hopefully sometime this week.

January 21, 2013, 1:23 AM
Looks awesome man. Makes me think of a real Dinosaur.

January 22, 2013, 1:13 AM
All finished!

January 23, 2013, 10:33 PM
So my goal this year is to work on kits that i've begun that need to be finished. First up is my HGUC Gouf Custom i started last summer.

I've started replacing the spikes on the shoulders using the gunpla builder part sets.

Still working on them. Cutting down the original spikes to move them around, lots of filling will be needed.

Reworking how the power switch will be hidden, i need to fill in under the skulls.

*Some pics might be similar to older pics in the thread... i honestly don't remember lol

January 24, 2013, 12:27 AM
I remember watching the updates on this project. I was really impressed with just about everything that you were doing. Now that you're back working on it, I'll be watching even closer. Always liked the Gouf Custom, so I'm anxious to see where you take this project.

January 24, 2013, 12:33 AM
Ah, I remember this from last year when I was still lurking around here. Very interested to see how this turns out. There's something about seeing a diorama being built that is so relaxing, haha. Are the feet already done and untouchable?

January 24, 2013, 1:30 AM
Thanks guys!

@Dlinker: The feet are just in the picture to see that the wiring will light up. It all comes apart still.

Here's how it all looks now without cleanup and filling.

January 24, 2013, 2:26 AM
Garish presentation and I mean that as a compliment. That pic will be excellent to use for comparison too (for us following this), once you're all done with it.

February 1, 2013, 1:07 AM
I got sick of mixing 2 part putty to fill in all of the gaps in my mods on the gouf, so i ordered some polyester quick putty. While waiting the week or so for that to arrive, i started working on an old resin kit (fss empress flame) i stopped working on. I think my fixing skills have improved so i hope i can finish this without quitting again. lol

These parts are mostly done. Need some paneling

Close up. I did random darkening on the red armor

These parts need masking for the different colors.

Still have alot of work to do on the shoulder armor head, shield and the cockpit area which is really holding me up. This is the price one pays for a recast of a recast but it was the only way to get this kit. :/

February 3, 2013, 8:44 PM
The detail on this kit is atrocious. It's so discouraging. All of the diamonds are misaligned and it's just annoying. Some companies have started to recast this and i'm really tempted to order a new one, but i'm way past the halfway point on this. Might as well finish it. The only good thing is that since it's a scene from the books, detail can kind of be fuzzy... So i can at least get away with it kind of. :/

Here's the arm all together. Still need to panel line.

February 3, 2013, 10:34 PM
Your progress is looking pretty swell. Are you going to leave those misaligned diamonds as is or did you already fix them? Can't tell from the photos, haha.

February 3, 2013, 10:54 PM
You see the orange ones one the white? they're on both sides of the each arm. Luckily the big red part covers them partially so it helps hide the problems. On the other arm, one diamond is like 2 mm's out of alignment from the rest. I had to rescribe each of them. I really should have just filled the messed up one and remade it but at this point i really don't care anymore. Never a good thing lol

February 4, 2013, 1:54 AM
Yeah, I think resin will be off-limits for me. Your issues with them along with some others I read about online just sound like they'd drive me to punch walls out of frustration sooner or later. I applaud your patience.

February 4, 2013, 2:50 AM
Nah man, don't give up on resin. The only reason this is so bad is this is a very old kit that was probably a recast of a recast of a recast. Over time the molds lost detail as it was made. If you do some research and buy from original or highly recommended companies you should be fine.

Some to look for:

Some originals:

G System, Neograde, Wave, B Club

Some nice recasters:

SMS, Utopia Cast, Super G(not as good as the previous 2), dreamcast

Some to be wary of: Older Super G, E2046 (mecha only, figures are normally very nice), Defier Hobby

Just do some research around the web, and read reviews before you buy. Going with the cheapest option is sometimes the worst decision. Theres a reason some companies will charge more. It's almost a guarantee of better quality.

Hope this helps you NOT to give up on it, if you ever see something you like in the future!

February 4, 2013, 11:46 AM
Well, I'm a sucker for trying out something new so I doubt I'll completely right it off, plus I do like how huge the selection is. Thanks for the info on the casters/recasters; it will be a good starting point for my googling :). I might do one this year as a long-term project and one that I shouldn't be attached to simply for the benefit of not getting too miffed when things go wrong. Which from what I read about people working on resin kits, is almost a certainty, haha.

February 8, 2013, 10:10 PM
Today my polyester putty came in so i started working on my rg justice gundam for a rg group build on ge. So far i've done 2 layers on the wings. Need to do some finer tuning on the designs. I did some beating up of the plastic with some solvent and a brush, then added some putty on top. Still a looong ways to go!

One Coat

Two Coats

And i'll be calling this build Burning Justice! ^_^

I saw FrenzyRumbles (My absolute favorite custom transformer modeler) Hellstorm Masterpiece Seeker build and i fell completely in love with it! When they announced the RG justice, i finally found a kit i could try doing 3d flames on!

I doubt my kit will look anything as good as this, (http://i18.photobucket.com/albums/b128/Grifith/models/18807_10151339850136967_1264499318_n_zpsc5a40e92.j pg) but i've been dying to try this out!

February 16, 2013, 2:23 AM
Held off on working on this but my new set of puttying tools came so i tried doing another coat of pp* on the kit. I think i'm going to need to do alot of sanding in detail. It's a learning experience so i'm not too stressed about it. This pp is killer on the lungs, i keep forgetting to mix and apply it in my booth, so even though i'll have my respirator on, i'll take it off and my house will reek of the stuff. :/ I also went to town on alot of the edges with my dremel to scuff/damage them.

Anyway, heres another layer. I think it looks best on the wing. I'm going to do some sanding tomorrow hopefully and maybe prime to see how it looks. That leg look the worst right now. Might just add some Mr. Surfacer 500 to do finer adjustments.

*polyester putty.

February 16, 2013, 7:51 PM
Played around with my new tools and these two really helped shape the flames.

Just hit the kit with a coat of primer so i can see how it looks without the color distractions.

This wing looks much better with the help of those two tips.

This one will require sanding/molding. :/

February 17, 2013, 2:12 AM
Sand it baby :D Nice progress, I am getting really excited about Resin kits now... damn it :(
Why didn't you smooth the putty more out?

February 17, 2013, 3:28 AM
Because this is a learning experience and i've never done 3d flames on a kit before. I'm just going to have sand the rough parts to a nice round edge.

February 17, 2013, 4:08 AM
wow, just went through the whole thread and I gotta say your work is awesome, you take model building and presentation to the next level.
Your Gouf LED set up had inspired me to perhaps put some LED lighting on my Metal Gear Rex whenever I plan to build that. When the time comes I'll probably ask you for a few pointers on discrete LED wiring since it seems you know a thing or two about them.

February 22, 2013, 11:08 PM
Thanks for the praise! Really all you need to do is do a bit of research on Ohm's law and wiring LED's are sooo easy! Just take a good look at the kit you're building and think about what ISN'T necessary underneath for structure. Often pegs can just be removed, especially when you glue seam lines!

Not really anything to do w/ my current Justice build, but i'm trying to make room and don't have time for painting. So i finished snapping my HMM Liger Panzer! This beast has been my favorite build in years! I have soooo many ideas for this thing, i can't wait to really work on it! Will probably sit on my shelf for a year lol

February 23, 2013, 11:01 PM
Update on the Justice! Made some time tonight and paints a bunch of the frame. I joked around with a friend on skype and we joked about painting an inner frame pink... so i did, sorta. XD

And for anyone worrying about too much red, i will most likely be doing something different than standard colors for the main armor. I really like how this turned out!

February 23, 2013, 11:41 PM
That is looking really awesome man. I love that color.

February 25, 2013, 1:38 AM

I started replacing the pink colors, and repainted the white. For the main color, i went with cowling black, but when added white to shade, which didn't show up too much. Added a few more drops, and this is what i have. An accident that i really like!

It's a little darker in person.

February 25, 2013, 2:55 AM
Still looks really good. I'm really interested to see what you have planned with all the putty you put on the kit.

February 25, 2013, 11:37 PM
I've been cramming all day, but i needed a break so i painted a few piece red. The rest of the darker pink parts of the original kit won't be this color, i just wanted to highlight a few parts.

Color was done using GX Yellow, Russet over that, and finally Fluorescent Red For a little bit of tonal difference.

February 26, 2013, 5:02 PM
I can not wait to see how the 3d flames come out. and good call on the innerframe the color really works.

February 27, 2013, 11:30 PM
The "pink" looks like bronze. What color did you use?

Anyways, nice one!

March 1, 2013, 1:03 AM
I think i need to spray some more clear red on the frame. You're not the first person to say that. I think as it dried, it changed shades.

Tonight i painted the old Dark blue parts. Went with german grey and then added a few drops of white to shade. Kind of pissed that it's pretty close to the other color lol but i actually like the way it looks. Luckily the remaining pieces take up alot of armor space so i can do something else to hopefully break it up.
