Hey guys,

It's been a while since I posted anything note worthy, So I finally got off my a$$ and took some pics of my next commission piece, the MG Strike Freedom.

At first I was excited, but honestly after building it, this kit, can be a c-sectioning nightmare, just to minimize the masking I have to do. But so far I was only able to c-section the back pack wings, and it looks like i still have to mask the upper wings. To make matters worse, there were a lot of sink marks and plastic imperfections which have to be filled and sanded *sigh*.

Also for some strange reason the proportions didn't look quite right so I had to modify it as well.

Inner Frame:I increased the leg length by about 1mm and decreased the arm lengths by about 1mm to improve upon the proportions

Wings: these became a bit of a nightmare with so much c-sectioning, and making sure it all fits together. Obviously even when I c-section most of the parts I still have to mask the upper wings since there is no way for me to keep the internal moving frame bits movable and c-section it for an easier paint job. Furthermore as you can see from the pics, there were a lot of plastic imperfections on this kit, which is why most of it is grey looking.

I'm really interested in seeing how the modified proportions are going to look once finished. I've seen this done on kits before and it just adds so much to them.Good idea.

I'm already hooked. I agree with Jaqio, I'll be interested to see what it looks like when finished. I've built this kit so I'm looking forward to seeing yours when it's done.

Mucho respect man simply due to that last picture. I hate when people skip that step of removing stress lines and divets in the plastic. They really ruin a beautiful kit. Even after a nice paintjob.

Thanks for the kind words guys. I will try not to disappoint :).

So on to the update.

Finally got some sanding done. So far only with 400 grit. This kit is a sanding nightmare. Sooo many divots, and imperfections I had to putty up.
But I got the wings, arms, and Legs done. Will have to start the torso soon. The mod I did is barely noticeable since it's only 1mm on the legs and 1mm on the arms, which is how I wanted it - super subtle.

Torso:

Wings: after hrs of sanding, i did a quick test fit, and they all fit perfectly.

So on to another update.

finally finished sanding the rest of the kit. I just have the main back pack left. Did the guns, head, the rest of the torso.
So here it is.

Overall kit: The over all mods that have been done so far are subtle, and I personally am satisfied with the slight change of proportions. All the pieces sanded down with 400 grit. Now to prime it to see what I missed out and do a quick sand it with 600, and maybe 800 in some parts. I am so glad the worst part of sanding is over. Also all I have to sand now are the main backpack and some of the internal frame which I have yet to do ;P

Head: Did some color separation because I am a lazy a$$. I cut the front sensor so it will fit together snuggly after it has been painted, and taken out the face for fitting afterwards. Plus there were sink marks on the jewel, and the red chin!! OMG, bandai is trying to kill me I tell u.

Side Skirts and guns: More color separation, just to avoid more masking lol. hmmm... maybe i should just do masking cuz doing color separation has become a lot more work that I had expected.

Ok, on to the update. it has been a while, and I've been busy with work life, etc.

So what I was able to get done during my time off was to finish the my new panel lines, and new sensor mod, and started to prime the SF, and with my remaining gold paint, I was
able to paint some of the inner frame.

Mods: I decided to add IC sockets as gun barrels for the funnel system.
http://i107.photobucket.com/albums/m284/gdx9902/MG%20Strike%20Freedom%20Commission/strikeFreedomWIP009-1.jpg

Mods: I also took out the stock cylinder in the ankle joint, sanded it down, and replaced it with an after market part. The front skirt armor I cut a diamond hole and added sensor bits.

Mods: I added pla plating so that the ankle guard looks more like the MK2 ankle guard

Panel Lines: I didn't go crazy with panels lines just a few on the arms and legs to spruce up the kit.

Altogether:

On a final note, I tried reverse washing to paint my internal frame, but it came with a heavy price. I used the Alclad enamel candy color to do it, and since this was my first try at it.
I think I will take Harry's advice and get me some more of those pointed Q tips for my next try. In the mean time, I think I will do a mix of hand painting and more practice on the reverse wash.
Good thing once the armor is on no one can see the mistakes. ;P

All of those mods are looking great man. The panel lines you added give it some great looking extra detail. The gold in the last pic looks more, bronze than gold. It might be the lighting that messing with it though.

I like the gold you chose. I'm not a huge fan of mirror gold, so the more natural look is much nicer. Shame about the alclad enamel. I've been meaning to try it out. I think it might be due to it being from alclad. I have a feeling it might be due to their paint mixture.

wooowee, it's been a while since I last posted a WIP.

Thanks for the kind comments.

I have decided to submit my SFG to my local IPMS competition, and for the GBWC, as well.

Don't worry, I'm not eligable to win any of the Plamocon Prizes. Just a chance to represent N. America in Japan.

So anyways, I have pretty much finished the main SFG

this pic was taken about a month ago.

Now, with the Contest deadline closing in, I've been building and painting like crazy.

Now I must admit it is almost finished, all I have left to do are some gold bits, and the weapons, which are drying as I type this.

So I hope you guys like it so far, and I hope I was able to capture the details in the images.

I REALLY like the gold panel lining. It makes those wings pop in a way I hadn't imagined. Nice shading, too!

Dude, that looks amazing man. I love that gold panel lining. The blue is really interesting. It reminds me of titanium.

another amazing piece, and I have to agree with the other members I love the gold panel lining. Was that done with a wash or did you actually paint through the lines?

Glad you guys like it. It took me a while to get to this point. I can say after this, I will be taking a break from gundams for a couple of months. lol.

The gold is an Enamel wash.
