I am totally new to this. As a kid I tried and failed at building many model kits. I sort of lost my will to go on and put it behind me. Since then I have dabbled in custom paint work on existing toys (https://www.flickr.com/photos/dedguy/albums/72157677580647412) as well as painting of miniatures (https://www.flickr.com/photos/dedguy/albums/72157679856702043) but this is my first Gundam kit I have built. A few of the photos are from before the kit was entirely finished but I think they show off the differences in the metallic reds better.

Those 2 reds are a nice contrast!

Thanks! I used Tamiya rattle cans. The darker red is TS-18 Metallic Red and the lighter is a base of TS-21 Gold with a top coat of TS-74 Clear Red. I think it worked out well. The gold with the clear red is interesting in that depending on the viewing angle it can look anything from almost indistinguishable from the metallic red to much lighter in shade and richer in saturation.

After this I bought myself an airbrush. I went through so much spray paint and that stuff ain't cheap.

Nice rich reds. Good job on the paint. I never could do rattle cans to well. I always ended up with drips in the paint or light spots and heavy spots. Yours is nice and even and good color choices with the clear red over the gold it blends it nicely.

Ohhh~ nice work using just cans on the sazabi but where is the gun? :P

Another point, Nice work on the predator! All the layers and layers of rust. Do did that by yoursef or the model comes like that?

The gun is being worked on. I used the same crap Valejo primer on it that I used on some parts of my Grimgerde so masking for the red parts just ended up ripping off most of the paint. Need to strip the whole thing down and start over -_-

The rust and oxidation on the Predators I did myself. The Predator from P2 came looking like this (http://www.mwctoys.com/images2/review_cityhunter_6.jpg) and the rusty desert Pred of my own design came looking like this (https://www.sideshowtoy.com/mas_assets/jpg/901321_press01-001.jpg). Both use masks from a custom sculptor who goes by the name "taylerdurdem" on the Sideshow Freaks forums.

You can see more pics if interested on my flickr: City Hunter Predator (https://www.flickr.com/photos/dedguy/albums/72157677854818264) or Desert Hunter Predator (https://www.flickr.com/photos/dedguy/sets/72157677580647412)

what do you mean by masks?

The helmets they're wearing. Both were sculpted and then cast in resin by another customizer not myself.
