Hey guys, I'm new to the forum and I thought why not create a thread of my own builds? I haven't built one in 5 years, and last month I finally got myself a kit.
Please feel free to comment on my builds, and give me suggestions on making them better! Thanks everyone.
Please do check out my Imgur albums for each model as I don't want to spam my thread with photos.

As I'm not quite familiar with building gunpla after leaving it for so long, this maynot be the best looking build. I did put a lot of effort into it though.

Just got myself a new kit, HGUC Unicorn Gundam Destroy Mode! I've heard its pretty nice, and I'm gonna get a decal pack for it too. Surely I will have a great time building it.

Today's Progress: Worked on the torso, head and the backpack. Some parts were really small and it was kinda difficult to and them properly. The kit looks great to me for now, but I would really need the extra water decal pack a it looks very plain and lack the details.

on my Unicorn i gor some red paint and painted the back of the psycho frame parts for the outside of the thigh and skirt armor. and some white paint on the parts on the chest. and a dark grey wash on the kit. it makes it look very good and i would recommend it.

i also cut the safety nubs off the V fin and sharpened it.

I've never painted my kits before, so I'm not sure what I should do (e.g. which type of paint, the mixture of paint, how to do washes...). It would be great if you could show me pictures of your kit too!

Here is my unicorn.
http://www.gundamforums.com/showthread.php/44276-Zaku-s-colection/page5
And you could use any red paint really its just going to go on the back of the clear parts that need it. All I did was brush it on. I didnt even thin it. And for lining you take some black acrylic paint and some distilled water and thin the paint t so it is very runny the go over where you want it. Then clean it up with some Q tips. The paint will stay in the recessed areas. Some parts I lined with a mechanical pencil.

- - - Updated - - -

Oh and for the V fin all you do is file down the safety nub and sharpen it up a bit.

Finally completed, I would say a satisfactory kit at most. It lacked weapons (beam sabers to be exact) and had limited posing ability. Spraying the top coat was a pain in the ass as I had to tape the psycho frame, still a fun kit though.

I'm thinking of spraying this kit with chrome just to get the authentic silvery look, any advice or comments?

That's the thing I want to find out as well. Does spraying the kit with chrome make it less prone to fingerprint marks?

OK first making it chrome silver will not stop the finger prints you still have to top coat it then it will be finger print proof.
@salty tank I was reading you question about chrome or silver painting in the help thread . I noticed that you said you don't have and AB well I can still help. Walmart sells a paint called Krylon. It's good stuff, I have there gold silver and aluminum"Metallic" paint. For the silver it is still a good idea to have a black base, but I only had a black primer base and the paint still came out really shiny . Just do some testing on extra spouses that you have left over from your builds.

I see, but there's no walmart here... I've got a solution of using Tamiya Silver Leaf to achieve similar results, and it shouldn't be too hard to handle I guess. One last thing, will the gloss top coat ruin the chrome finish? I've seen mixed views on such issue so Im not sure what to do.

I haven't had a problem. The main thing you need to make sure is that if you use acrylic paint use an acrylic clear coat, same if you use enamel use an enamel clear coat. Acrylics and enamel are not good friends and the clear coat will cloud up if you mix them. And don't spry a ton on, just start with light coats and build it up.

If I remember correctly the Tamiya TS Sprays should be lacquer, so if I use the Tamiya Gloss Spray I should have no problem as they are supposed to be compatible right?

MG Infinite Justice

Gallery: http://imgur.com/a/MKHhB
Top Coat: TS-80 Flat Clear
Panel Lining: Tamiya Panel Line Accent (Black)

Took my time building this kit as it is my first MG kit in 5 years, yet I still managed to screw up one or two dry rub decals... Quite satisfied with the overall results, although slight misting occurred on the jet pack due to too much flat coat. The panel line accent certainly made the kit look even better when compared to the Gundam Markers. Also bought a piece of black paper and a random white desk lamp for photos. Feel free to give any comments, thanks!

Nice job, how was that kit by the way? I've been thinking about ordering it.
Apart from minor issues due to old design, it is a great kit with some nice colour separation for the Gundam itself and the Back Pack, plus I love the Infinite Justice :)
I'll list the issues here:
1. The head cannot move up and down when looking to the sides
2. The side skirts cannot hold the beam sabers firmly, similar issue with the RG Freedom/Justice. (One of the reasons why I chose to set him in a pose using both beam sabers now.)
3. The piece for holding the beam shield is very loose, making it hard to keep the beam shield in place. (which is why I lost it...)
4. The two gun barrels on the jet pack can be a bit loose
5. VERY back heavy, making it nearly impossible to pose without an action base. (It can barely stand on its own.)
But like I said, those are just minor issues and I'm pretty glad that I got the kit, so you should probably get one if you want to.

Sneak Peek!
HGUC Gundam Unicorn-02 Banshee Norn Destroy Mode
Full Gallery: http://imgur.com/a/Pbp1P (http://imgur.com/a/Pbp1P)
Top Coat: Gloss Clear in the future (maybe)
Panel Lining: No
Custom Paint: Yes (if spray painting counts)
List: Psycho-frame - TS76 Mica Silver+C48 Clear Yellow
Body (Outer Parts) - TS14 Black (2 Layers)+TS76 Mica Silver+TS53 Deep Metallic Blue
Accessories+Inner Frame - TS14 Black+TS76 Mica Silver
My first fully painted gundam, if painting with spray cans count. The new shiny metallic look of the Banshee looks way better in my opinion, but I have a lot of room for improvement on using spray cans. There is clearly visible uneven distribution of paint on the kit, and some parts were not sprayed properly such as missing out one of the sides (The psycho frame on the right leg is clearly silver on the side, not golden). Nonetheless, a very satisfying kit even though the colours did not turn out as good as I hoped it would be.
http://i.imgur.com/aDfneTul.jpg (http://imgur.com/aDfneTu)
The camera also fails to capture its actual colour for some reason (Silver looks like grey, dark blue looks like not-so-dark-blue), so the photo session I had was rendered pretty much useless. I am trying to look for a solution, but if the problem persists, I will upload the current photos I have instead.
PS: See that tip on the back above the wing thingy? Its actually a shield which Banshee isn't supposed to have, but the parts were provided, so why not? The more shields you have, the more protection you get :)

It's the lighting. I had the same problem. MY brother is a professional photographer and he told me to use 3 lights. with my light box. one on the left, right and one from above. This will get rid of strange shadows and give a better light distribution over the kit. Plus what is you F. stop and Film speed that has a bit to do with it. What are the setting on your camera? But on the bright side, silver is a pain in the ass to shoot.

The kit looks good with the new colors you did.

I like the colors that you used for the Psychoframe. I've always preferred the solid, monochromatic look of the original release instead of the clear orange parts for the Norn.

Then I guess I'm gonna try using 3 desk lamps then, I don't have any light boxes. I don't even know the settings on the camera, as it's a very cheap one and I never bothered using it until now. I also like the colour of this build a lot, didn't really like the original blue of the kit.

Thanks! This build is a test run for my HGUC Phenex Silver ver GFT, and I'm wondering if I should also use metallic red for the psychoframe. Any suggestions?

'professional' is pushing it a bit far. I am just a monkey pushing buttons. I do like the colors on the Banshee. Next photo, just try two lights set at about a 45 degree angle to the centerline of your subject. Three lights will be overkill if you can't control the f-stop or shutter speed of the camera. By the way, I am gundammonkey's brother...

If you put an old drier sheet ( the kind you use in the drier for clothing) over the the light. I just tape one to the lanp shade. It will defuse the light and make it softer, it is a cheap filter.

Thanks! This Banshee is certainly my favourite as it's my first painted gunpla, and the colours look way better than the original kit imo. As for the blue fading to silver, it was indeed accidental and I have no idea how to do it again even if I wanted to lol.

This was a kit which was finished quickly as I was busy with my studies but simply had to satisfy my gunpla addiction needs. Didn't bother to remove the nub marks with sand paper, simply stormed my way through. Afterwards I feel like I should do a bit more as it is a RG, so I panel lined it and tried to put on a Gloss coat. Turns out shiny Exia is pretty awesome. One thing I hate about this kit, though, is the design of the kit. The shoulders pop out all the time, the reflective blue plastic sheets were a pain in the ass also. I personally like Exia itself a lot and had fun building it, but it is certainly not the best kit out there. (Gloss coat made it kinda hard to take pictures tho.)
