This will be my first time ever showcasing my finished gunpla, mainly because I feel comfy here but I'm also a little shy as well. See, I don't have an airbrush and spray cans are expensive for how little you get (damn you overspray!) so I handbrush all of my kits. My apologies up front for the lackluster photos; my camera isn't very good. Anyway, enjoy!

First up is the Katoki redesign of my favorite gundam, Heavyarms. This was my first one in several years, and the one responsible for rekindling my love of building gunpla. I decided to paint it in the (much cooler to me anyway) color scheme found in the Endless Waltz OVA. Paints used were all acrylic paints from Testors Model Master line and Tamiya and included Teal, US NAVY Blue Gray, Dark Sea Blue and Sublime Green (enamel; Model Master) and Tamiya's Flat Yellow, Flat White, NATO Black, Chrome Silver and Gun Metal. Unfortunately, one of the little antenna on the side of his head broke and I lost one of the missile pod covers on the leg, and during my "photoshoot" the wire for the ammo belt came loose (after I had initially glued it in) but anyway, on to the pics!

Next up is the Wing Gundam Proto Zero. This one I didn't paint, save for the Twin Buster Rifle, which I painted in Tamiya's Dark Sea Gray (a favorite of mine, you'll see it often) I just did panel lines (gray Gundam panel line pen) and top coat. Oh! I also painted the base too! I didn't put the decals on this one because I like the waterslides and can't seem to find any Bandai ones...

http://i58.photobucket.com/albums/g275/JKazamaGirl/PROTO%20ZERO%20ACTION%20POSE.jpg

Next we have Quatre's Gundam Sandrock. I just love the look of this kit and prefer this color scheme over the one in EW. This one has the Bandai waterslide decals, but no topcoat (kinda forgot about it, lol) so this guy doesn't get an action pose because I didn't want to rub off a decal. For this one, I just painted the eyes and the vulcans on the side of his head. For this kit I tried out the panel wash technique.

http://i58.photobucket.com/albums/g275/JKazamaGirl/SANDROCK%20BACK.jpg (http://s58.photobucket.com/user/JKazamaGirl/media/SANDROCK%20BACK.jpg.html)

Lastly, my recently completed Wing Gundam. This guy is bad looking, save for those ginormous wings. If I was more advanced, I'd have made them more like the retractable wings found in the TV version's MG kit (which I want) but oh well. I wasn't crazy about the amount of white on this kit so I changed it up a bit. Paints used for this one were again a mix of enamel and acrylic from Tamiya and Model Master. For the enamels I used: Italian Red, Insignia White and Sublime Green. Acrylics included Cobalt Blue (which was just a smidge darker than the plastic), Teal, Turn Signal Amber, a really pretty color with some slight flake in it when under light, Flat White, Gun Metal, NATO Black, and Dark Sea Gray.

I ran into a bit of a problem when doing the panel lines for this kit. I used Insignia White (enamel gloss) on the legs and attempted a panel wash using Tamiya X1 Black (acrylic) and for some reason the paint wouldn't flow the length of the line and attempts at cleaning it resulted in severe streaking. I had to unfortauntely repaint the leg pieces and just used the gray gundam panel line pen instead.

For this kit I learned how to do masking and how to use putty/cement to fill seam lines.

The internal frame, which I painted entirely by hand:

So there you have it, fellow Gunplars! I'm happy to have finally shared my works with others!

You certainly do these kits justice. Your hand painting skills are superb. I don't see any streaking what so ever. And the decal placement appears to be perfect. You have some really good skills at Gunpla building. Can't wait to see what you build up next.

Your work is well-done on all of the kits and the two that you did the most work on show lots of promise. Considering what you had to work with, your handpainting results are pretty good. I can see some strokes on the HeavyArms' front skirts, as well as a couple of areas on the Wing EW (red on the lower torso and the white on the back and front crotch piece). There's also a gap on the left forearm of the Wing EW, which I guess is due to the welds?

Something tells me you'll do great with paint brands that are much easier to handpaint. Couple that with a tube of Tamiya Basic Putty to fix gaps after welds and the only thing left is to get more kits to work on.

wow you do really nice work. i also see some brush strokes but hand painting is a very difficult thing as im sure you know. if you get an airbrush i could see you being very good at this.

Hey thanks a lot Dlinker and everyone else who enjoyed seeing my works. Really makes me feel good. The gap you saw on the left forearm isn't actually because of the welds, but one of my first attempts at puttying; I guess I didn't put enough. There's always next time though ^^ The putty I used is Squadron's green putty. And when they say it's fast drying, they mean it - it was dry within 30 minutes of applying it, plus it sands off really well.

My next project will more than likely be the Hi-Nu Ver Ka.

Long time no posting here! Still working on my Hi-Nu Ver. Ka, but did finish my RG Strike Freedom a couple days ago. I just keep forgetting to post pictures, lol.

Little background on this little guy. He was originally just going to be a straight OOB build with little to no painting, some panel linning and some topcoat but I just could fight the urge to gussie him up a bit, mostly in the detail department. After some serious paint misshaps, I was able to get him back to just bare plastic and instead decided to just paint gold details on some parts (as if he didn't have enough bling already, lol) For this, I used a very small brush and Tamiya's X-12 Gold Leaf acryllic. I also used said paint for the eyes, and X-23 Clear Blue and X-11 Chrome Silver for the cameras in the head and the beam rifle scopes. For panel lining, I'd originally done a panel wash with the Gold Leaf but after trying to clean the excess, it left horrible staining on a few parts. Luckily the staining isn't very noticeable and most of it came off. In the end I just ended up using my gundam panel line pen. Panel washes hate me for some reason...

It was hard to get this guy into poses because he's so fragile and parts kept falling off. Apologies for the crappy posing, lol.

If you've been following my WIP thread, you know very well of Project Hi-Nu and how long it's taken me to finish; I started at the end of May, and finished it around the middle of September. Now, these are by no means all the pictures I've taken of him all finished, but I just wanted to give you guys a taste of how he looks all done. I'll be posting more sometime tomorrow, so keep checking for updates. I have to point out that he's on the stand in these pictures, and the arm only has two positions, so that's why he's at a slight angle. At any rate, enjoy the pictures!

Beautiful work and that purple is just fantastic. Good finish and an excellent shade that matches the rest of the colors well. The gray on the front skirts is a little iffy, though, with some rough edging.

Dlinker, yeah that bit was hard to mask, plus I was using that blue painters tape, and it actually took some of the paint off. So that's why it looks a little rough >.<

I can relate. I always get difficulty masking recessed areas like those. Oftentimes, I have to make the concession of using an acrylic color to paint them (which is going on top of a lacquer paint job) so I can just scratch off the rough edges.

Me too, Twitch. It's really a king amongst other gundams, this version especially as its closer to the original artwork.

Oh, I HATE trying to mask recessed areas! They're probably the least fun (if masking can be called that) part of masking. I can never get the tape into all the little cracks and whatnot; like when I was painting the wings on my Wing EW. The little red areas on the wings were a bitch to mask on the insides.

@Dynames: Yeah, no kidding! I didn't realize just how much extra work I put into it until I had a look at some of the pictures of it completely stock earlier in my WIP thread. A truly proud moment for me, indeed!

Aww, thanks A_Lurker. That means a lot not just from you, but everyone here. Especially considering this was my first time doing any kind of modification work. I learned so much from this project and now that I know I can do (simple) modding, I may just start doing it for every build from here on out, lol!

Thank you, Futa!

I have some new pictures of my Hi-Nu to show, this time with the backpack, funnels and propellant tanks attached. I want to apologize upfront for the limited pictures and the fact that I only have it doing one pose, but I was quite frankly getting really frustrated with trying to put the backpack and everything on his back, and it all revolved around the piece that the wings/funnels pop into. If I had anything bad to say about this kit, it would have to be the design of this one little piece, seen here as K20 on section 10-5 of the manual:

https://50bfaea075d5b3f31afaafcd3648e309bb79b932.googledri ve.com/host/0B1QEbMjj9aglRnFYVm5JRU5adVk/2014/09/m183_m0017.jpg

Quite frankly, it stinks. If you don't have it inside the backpack *just* right, good luck trying to keep the heavy wings on, because they'll more than likely fall off. But anyway, here are the last shots of Project Hi-Nu:

Been awhile, eh? I'm back with more finished builds! My thanks to Zaku for lighting a fire under my ass and FINALLY taking pictures of my MG Heavyarms and MG Wing builds. Heavyarms and Hi-Nu were my two entries for Tatsu's most recent contest. With H-Arms, I gave scratch building a try by making the "box" or whatever the heck it's called, for my modded double gattling gun. I think it turned out pretty good. But anyway, on to the pics!

First, Heavyarms:

http://i58.photobucket.com/albums/g275/JKazamaGirl/MG%20HEAVYARMS%201.jpg (http://s58.photobucket.com/user/JKazamaGirl/media/MG%20HEAVYARMS%201.jpg.html)

For the barrels of the double gattling, I lined them with half-circle plastic strips.

Close ups and details:

http://i58.photobucket.com/albums/g275/JKazamaGirl/MG%20HEAVYARMS%209.jpg (http://s58.photobucket.com/user/JKazamaGirl/media/MG%20HEAVYARMS%209.jpg.html) Panel lines and rivets added to the front of the thighs (they connect to the ones on the back), the knees, lower leg, and ankle armor. Also took the ankle joints from my other Heavyarms, covered them with pla-circles, covered them in putty, put rivets in them, then glued them to the ankle armor.

Next, the MG Wing Gundam (TV Ver.). This guy was more of a straight build. The only things I painted were the Buster Rifle, the hands, the yellow on the wings (by using Gold Leaf and Clear Yellow), and the blue armor parts. Minimal panel lining was also added to this kit. Unfortunately, the topcoat made certain panel lines, done in gundam panel line pen, run for some reason. Most notably on the feet.

You can definitely see the improvements from you last build, particularly with the modifications.

Some critiques:

Your panel lining, could use some improvement. It seems like you're using a gundam marker or some kind of pen. The lines are not very evenly distributed with the black. Like some of your modified rivets have lining, some don't. The ankle picture is particularly questionable. It looks like you just dabbed 3 dots on it.

Your white paint looks like you sprayed it on a bit runny in some places. In that same ankle picture for the HA, you can see the build up of paint on the edges of the missile pods, toward the center detail. This could be avoided by making sure your paint mix is the right viscosity.

XXXG-01H
December 31, 2015, 2:45 AM
Yep, you're right. I used gundam marker for the panel lining, even though I know it's not very good for use on painted kits. I know of the panel wash, but trying to convince my assistant that I need a can of gloss clear in order to do it is like pulling teeth, lol. Since he buys all my materials though, I have no reason to complain.

And the paint I used on the HA was all sprayed from a can, no mixing necessary :)

Thanks for the critque!

The heavyarms looks good. I feel like its missing something though when I look at it. Squee pointed the same things I noticed too. Other then that the Double Beam Gatling Gun looks pretty well constructed. Heavyarms is looking good as is the Wing Gundam.

Futa, if that missing thing you're thinking of is the ammo drum and belt, after fighting with trying to keep the ends of the belt from popping off - even after using cement on them, too! - I just decided to forego the damn thing. And I had it all nice and painted too. Ah, well. Was more trouble than it was worth. That would be my only knock against that kit. Seems like Bandai could have made it better, or maybe that's just me?

Squee, I understand you were just trying to help, so I'm not going to get all pissy or anything, lol. It wasn't like you said something like the whole kit sucked or whatever, without pointing out a reason. I hate it when people do that. Like they're just saying something sucks to start crap >.<

Futa and Zaku, thanks for the compliments :)

Finished my 2nd RG kit, the Aile Strike last night with the completion of the stand (he really is naked without it, if you ask me). For the panel lining, I ditched the gundam panel pen and used a good ol' mechanical pencil with 0.5 lead. I was really surprised at how well it really worked, got into those tiny lines no problem, and was easy to clean. Despite the stickers being a pain in the ass, I still think my dad did a great job with them, considering their size. I painted small details like the head cameras, the little silver dots inside the aile striker, the gold in the crook of the arms, the gray on the front skirt vents, as well as the backs of the front and side skirts. Enjoy!

Dom: Considering he was only the 3rd entry into the series, I'd say he's definitely solid. In fact, one big thing I noticed between him and my RG Strike Freedom (and Destiny) is the way the front and back skirts are designed. Oddly enough, they're great on the Strike because they're on a ball joint (see the picture of the back of the front skirt to see what I mean) that just pops into the front of the waist frame. With the SF and Destiny, they've been redesigned using a type of peg system - you take the biggest piece of skirt and plug it into the peg, then take the smaller piece and put it over the peg. Anyway, long story short, the damn front and back skirts ALWAYS fall off. I'm wondering if all the newer RG's are like this.

RPC: Of course! And unlike the MG Ver. RM one, I'm glad the RG one isn't P-Bandai only, lol.

A_Lurker: Thanks! He's coming together so far, so good at the moment. Going to post an update in my WIP thread shortly!

Ok, I finally got around to taking some pictures of the behemoth that is the PG Strike Freedom. Big guy didn't make my job easy so I apologize if the pictures are a little "meh" but it's hard to take pictures of something so massive (that's what he said, LOL) Anyway, I left the SF's outer armor unpainted and only painted the pukey gold inner frame parts with Tamiya TS-21 that I think matches really well with the gold plated parts, and I also painted the vulcans on his head, his hands (in Tamiya X-12 Gold Leaf acrylic) and the cameras in his head.

This was the first time I used my Tamiya Panel Line wash and I have to say, it's an item everyone here needs to have if they don't already. It's such a time saver and very easy to use, just shake it really well and you're good to go!

Custom details on this bad boy include added panel lines on the front skirts, shoulders, feet and legs. I didn't use pla-plate this time around like I did for the MG Strike Freedom. Decals were painstakingly applied by my assistant, who keeps wondering why they don't go "all the way" with the PG's and give you water slides instead of the stickers, lol.

Enjoy! Oh, and I had to take the pictures of him off the stand, which I was still modifying at the time.

HOLY SH#%! Look what the cat dragged in! Apologizes for being so incredibly AWOL, but I was actually on a self imposed gunpla hiatus for a really long time, until a few months ago when I decided to start back up again. But oh man, is the building bug back with a vengeance! So, did anyone here miss me at all? Lol.

Let's see, what have I been up to in the world of Gunpla... Well, for starters, I got my PG Strike Gundam finished. Something incredibly crappy happened while I was building the Skygrasper though. During one of the steps (when building the actuale Aile Striker, I believe) a piece (Y 22, according to the manual) snapped rigght in the middle of the top C-shaped part (the bottom was okay) and because of where it snapped, I can't glue it because any movement will just break it again. Kinda pissed. But, I did manage to get the Strike on the stand that came with the Skygrasper. He looks great. This was also my first time putting the marking stickers on. They were big, so that made it easy for me to see.

I built another RG Strike Freedom and did some slight painting to it. Decaled it myself as well. Really proud of this one because the decals were quite a bit smaller. He looks WAY better than my first RG SF. I also built a RG Build Strike. He came good, but I have mixed feelings about the kit itself. I also finally got around to building a straight OOB build of the HG Try Burning Gudam I've have lying around. He's a fun little guy, super poseable!

My most recent finished project was the MG Freedom 2.0. Absolute beast and a joy to build, though I must say it kinda threw me for a loop at first, what with the kit having no polycaps, but I knew that going into it. I didn't do too much painting on him, nor did I get carried away with the mods, as, to me anyway, he looks great as-is. He's one of those rare kits were too much detail can actually hurt his appearance, I think.

At any rate, I'm currently in the middle of something I'm calling the Heavyingly Trinity -- 3 Heavyarms (1 HG 1/100, 2 MG), one of which will be my first kit bash all because Bandai had to be stupid and release the H-Arms Custom as P-Bandai and there's no way in hell I'm paying $100+ for a kit that's 95% the original MG Heavyarms, but anyway... One of the Heavyarms is pretty much done so I'll be taking pictures of it soon.

That sucks!! But thanks for the heads up for when I build mine I will watch out when I get to that part. I hate it when the most important part is the weakest part. Your other PG SF looks great. Is it true that he doesn't hold a pose well or has "problems" I have heard some rather nasty reviews of him so I was a bit on the hesitant side to get him.

Tell me about it! I was so pissed when the piece snapped on me! I basically have a half built skygrasper just sitting in the box now, unable to be completed on account of that damn piece breaking and I don't really want to pay $60+ for another kit just to get the piece that broke so I'm pretty much screwed :(

Ah, the Strike Freedom. Like you, I've read some pretty critical reviews of him, about parts of him (most notably the wing connectors) being fragile or even breaking. I haven't had that happen to me yet, though. About the only real problem I have with mine is being unable to really open up the wings, as they tend to sag if raised up too much. Other than that, he's pretty solid. Do be careful with the wings though. I think Squee made sure to warn me of it beforehand with a video of the issue here, post #3053:

I was actually kind of dissapointed with the majority of the decals for this thing. They were kinda...ugly and weird so I didn't use the majority of them. Save for some detail painting on the leg armor, I didn't do much painting on this guy.

"The pose" I painstakingly carved out the middle of the cannon barrels with a pin vise and hobby knife

Next up is yet another MG Heavyarms EW. This one has a bit of a story behind why it has TWO single barrel gattling guns. Basically, I originally wanted to build a true Heavyarms Custom so I also purchased the old HG 1/100 Heavyarms Custom for the two guns. When the Heavyarms EW arrived in the mail, one of the ankle armor pieces was broken, yet the other half was no where to be found AND the runner package was sealed so it's like it came out of the factory like that or something. Anyway, the place I ordered it from simply sent me another kit, free of charge. So, I simply built this guy from the second kit I got. He's completely stock, with next to no painting done, save for the gattling barrels, the missiles and other little things. I also did the stickers myself, which I'm happy about. Sadly, the second gun on his back is purely for looks only.

May 12, 2017, 3:55 AM
My Hi-NU 2.0 project is officially finished. REALLY happy with how this 2nd one turned out, so much so that I'm now seriously considering putting up my purple one for sale. For this one, I went with the original MG blue and white color scheme; I used Tamiya's Brilliant Blue spray paint, kept the white plastic as is. Other colors I used to paint by hand are Tamiya's Flat Aluminum (XF-16) for areas of the knee armor, front skirts and other areas, Gun Metal (X-10) for the entire frame and bottom of the feet (which I couldn't take pictures of, unfortunately), Metallic Grey (XF-56) for the weapons, Gold leaf (X-12) for assorted pistons and Chrome Silver (X-11) for the massive HWS shield thrusters and other little details.

As far as modifications go, I didn't do many, actually. Scribed some new panel lines on the white chest armor and the feet and did some massive cutting of the shoulder armor to expose the inner frame and various cutting of parts on the arms, legs and ankle armor...that's about it, really.

Anyway, enough of that, on to the pictures!
