View Full Version : MG Zaku II 2.0 Black TriStar Custom - NEW UPDATES

April 3, 2015, 8:17 PM
Finished my Zaku II. There a few issues here and there, but i'm satisfied with how it turned out. I took a video as well but i realized after i packed up the kit for transport to the show tomorrow, that i took it with the camera turned to the side... I'll take it when i get home tomorrow. Didn't get to finish the Heat Hawk due to some liquid masking issues. Need to strip and repaint.

Dude, that looks fan freaking tastic! I love everything here, the coloring, the LED work, the added thruster flares, you did an awesome job as always!

April 3, 2015, 11:16 PM
So awesome. So incredibly AWESOME!! awesome work man. I was wondering if you were still going to do the effect parts. Im so glad you did.

April 3, 2015, 11:20 PM
Thanks guys! @Zaku: I told you, i wasn't showing them until i finished. XD

April 4, 2015, 1:48 AM
im really diggin how they turned out. you even did little ones for the bottoms of the feet nice attention to detail. again amazing work. your kits are motivating.

April 4, 2015, 9:37 AM

Wow, that looks incredible. How hard is it to LED that kit, btw?

April 4, 2015, 5:48 PM
That is insanely awesome, looks amazing. How did you make the thruster flares?

April 4, 2015, 6:09 PM
^Out of resin. I sculpted the shape, then made copies in clear resin.

Took 3rd place, for some reason my thrusters leds were barely showing up. :/

April 4, 2015, 7:01 PM
Awesome as usual, man.

April 5, 2015, 12:18 AM
That's a beast. Thrusters, shield, and weathering look really great.

Ahhh, model skills beyond my level. Excellent work my friend. Surprised you only came 3rd, makes me wonder what 2nd and 1st looked like...

April 5, 2015, 4:23 PM
Looks amazing!!! Just a question, what did you use to make the base? Resin?

April 5, 2015, 4:58 PM
I was about to ask about the base. It looks like the one the X was on. Is that the one you got from your friend or did you make a cast of it?

April 5, 2015, 6:02 PM
I honestly didn't expect to even place, there was this amazing predator bust that should have taken first. The second place Mechwarrior figure was pretty fantastic. I'd post pics but I left my camera in my friends car.

@zaku: yea, i used the X's base, I didn't have time to finish the other one.

April 5, 2015, 6:05 PM
You still plan on finishing the other one though right?

April 6, 2015, 11:33 AM
Fantastic work as always. You must have went against serious competition this time since your work always tend to place higher, haha. The paint finish is what stands out to me the most; I'd love to get a finish like that on my kits.

April 6, 2015, 7:58 PM
Thanks D!

Video of the lighting:

I love the lighting effects and the detail on this brute. Make two more! :D
The only thing (and this isn't about the model itself) I have to frown about is the base. Are you planning on adding any definition to the craters and rocks? The one-color surface contrasts a lot with the high detail of the model. As such, it's hard to properly visualize the MS in the setting the moon/meteor surface is supposed to evoke.

April 7, 2015, 3:26 AM
I said it in my WIP, this base was made for another kit, the X, and i needed something for display at a con. I deliberately tried to keep it out of as many pictures as possible since it doesn't really go with this suit. I could have put it on an action base, but that would have been lame. As for the one tone comment. There are multiple shade of grey in the base. If you look at my finished X thread there are close ups of it. I have another base i was working on for this kit, but couldn't finish it in time. I do not plan on adding dust etc, because this is 1/100. At that scale, the granules would be very hard to notice.

April 7, 2015, 3:54 AM
Ah, okay. I hadn't looked at either of those threads. What would this model's base have been like had it been finished?

April 7, 2015, 12:33 PM
It was a totally different pose for the zaku and the base had a structure on it.

April 9, 2015, 11:36 PM
Great looking kit! That's a very good shade of purple you used. Would've liked to seen the completed kit in the more dynamic pose you posted above.

My Fav Tri stars build so far!

September 16, 2015, 1:12 PM
Why have i only just seen this, dame man that is outstanding.

September 17, 2015, 5:39 PM
That looks fantastic! Will use this as an example when I build the HG version.

September 17, 2015, 9:01 PM
Thanks guys! I should hopefully be updating this topic in a few weeks with the new pose and base!

October 11, 2015, 4:08 PM
Didn't place, nor did i really expect to, but here's a video of the kit. I need to upload my photos i took, and need to take some of the additions i added after the video.

There must have been some amazing stuff there for you not to place.

Your vid needed some flashing lights to go with one of the best rave tunes ever to come out of the uk. I have seen them live in 94 and 98 they rule the air waves and your mech rules the Gundam UN.

October 11, 2015, 5:33 PM
Thanks for the kind words rpandc! I love them, and with the flashing lights, i felt the song was appropriate. XD

I posted the best of show in the epic kit thread. I keep saying it but no one believes me lol For the US, NYCC and AX have insane/the toughest competition. I kind of want to be lame and go to something like Otacon where i am almost positive i could take it lol

October 12, 2015, 12:04 AM
That is an awesome build! Where at NYCC do they do the competition? I went Thursday and had no idea that was a thing at it.

October 12, 2015, 12:39 AM
The North America events are held by the bluefin distribution corporation. Its always at their booth. I think there are like 7 different conventions that the qualifiers take place at.

October 12, 2015, 1:00 AM
That's great, something to shoot for one day.

October 14, 2015, 11:59 PM
Forgot to post these pics. Close up of the added humans.
