SHAMELESS PLUG: Like my Gunpla Facebook Page! (https://www.facebook.com/JayGunpla) plzzz

Decided I'll just go ahead and make one thread since I now started a different project aside the Hi Nu while I wait for some LED stuff...

Anyways I went ahead and worked on the MS Cage for the Unicorn since I want to work on a Gunpla again... Sooooo why not start with RX0 and since I'm a sucker for it anyways lol.

So here's some pictures of it not done cause the Decals and stuff aren't set in yet...

JOHNNY PLZ, since I didn't have the Unicorn done might aswell have these here.

Pics of this and Unicorn will be posted together when I get them both done :P

I'm still trying to get better since I lack experience but please do let me know what I can do to get better and how to do said things!

Till the next update!

How did you apply those silver weathered accents on the hangar?

It's been awhile boys... but I went ahead and got a couple of things done!

1st off, I finished the Hi Nu Bust! I'll be putting some pics of that up later this week

Andddd I'm currently working on the Unicorn that goes with this cage.

Used as a guinea pig of sorts for some 1sts such as

Enamel Wash
Dry Brushing
Alclad Candy Coat(ish)
Proper decal work

and it's been fun. I hate the Red psychoframe and went ahead to use the color in the pics :D I think it's coming out real well. Going to be an entry of mine for the Club's meeting along with the Hi Nu bust.

Excited since I got the Head, Chest completely done and I should be able to wrap up the Skirt & Backpack tomorrow (also both arms if I am able to since all the arms need are the armor pieces to be painted.)

Anyways to the pictures.

I cant wait to see the completed bust. And the unicorn is looking very good so far. Very cool color choices

October 14, 2014, 8:30 AM
I'm also excited to see the bust. I love that color that you chose for the Psycho Frame. It looks very fitting for the Unicorn.

October 14, 2014, 10:57 AM
I'm liking how that dry-brushing looks on those frame parts. The psycho frame is coming out really nice too.

October 14, 2014, 3:03 PM
Thanks guys, Backpack and Skirt should be done tonight after work.

Can't wait for it lol

October 15, 2014, 8:37 AM
I forgot to ask this. But what did you use for the frame? Is it a shade of Alclad?

October 15, 2014, 12:03 PM

It is, I'm surprised you could tell past the Dry Brushing...

I forgot the actual name of it but yes...

Also, here's some updated pics of it though taken with Phone Quality.

If I had to guess it would be Alclad Steel. But I can't be sure.

I wasn't to sure on that purple. But now seeing it actually attached to the Unicorn, I really like it. You picked a good color.

I'll double check and let you know after work.

The Purple isn't as bright as the picture shows, the lighting is strange. Thanks man, I just grabbed what I had lol. No prior planning here x.x

I've also seen some Unicorns that overboard the decals but not mine.

October 15, 2014, 12:51 PM
Yeah I think the level of decals that you've done with yours is just perfect. I've seen a few MG Unicorns that had so many decals on them that you could barely see the paint. A bit overboard.

Alright guys, with the October Contest done I'm holding another contest this December and it will be a much more organized one (As in I'm expecting actual good numbers of entries)

There will be 4 Categories that I've set as winners

Best of Show Best Large Scale Best Small Scale Best of Theme
with the theme being Christmas! (Santa Beargguys, I'm already calling it so hard).

As such I'd like to have a great show piece.

It will be my 1st ever LED Work on a kit and it seems intimidating but whatever right!

Now I'd like to know what kit you guys think would be best to use LEDs with and which ones ya'll would suggest I use as my entry.

The choices are going the be MG's and they are

Sword Impulse
Quanta (+BTF Saber)
Sengoku Astray
Wing EW
GM Sniper
AGE2 Double Bullet
Strike RM (+ Launcher/Sword Packs & Base)

I also have the Base for the Zeta so we could throw that in any of the kits.

I'd love to do the Strike RM but having literally Zero Experience with LED's I'm afraid I'll fuck it all up and I don't want that... It's my 2nd Favorite MS and it kind of has a sentimental value to me.

Aside from LED's off-course it will have a paint scheme but tbh probably just Anime Colors.

So what say you kind folks? I'm definitely excited and this journey starts tomorrow...

Plus if it's good enough, I'll totally rock it at another contest :P

October 21, 2014, 7:39 PM
A Strike RM with LEDs would be amazing. You should do it.

October 21, 2014, 11:54 PM
Hmmm, it's a toss-up between the GM Sniper and the Sword Impulse. The former for a scope and eyes that light up, the latter for big swords and eyes that light up.

October 22, 2014, 7:54 AM
I say the Double Bullet. You know it would be awesome to have those massive beam effect parts light up on the shoulders.

October 22, 2014, 5:45 PM
This tears me up even more!

I've imagined how the Strike RM would look with LEDs but I'd rather not fuck it with inexperience since I would want it to essentially be the Perfect Strike RM... I understand it would be (or should be) fairly simple to LED the Strike as is but with it's Expansion Packs I'm not entirely sure how to do that while keeping it easy to remove...

October 22, 2014, 6:13 PM
I think the best way to pull that off, would be to either have each unit a separate LED system. Or, have a plug of some sort that you can undo whenever you want to switch out the armaments.

October 27, 2014, 12:30 PM
I am feeling way too ambitious with this project lol.

I went ahead and decided to do the MG Sword Impulse and combining that with the MG Zeta Catapult Base.

5 LED's on the Catapult Base (to Illuminate the Sword Impulse as it's on it) + a Toggle Switch that also has an LED on the Switch itself to mark itself as On.

The Sword Impulse will have 1 SMD LED on each Sword + 1 on it's other Beam thing... (The one like Destiny's Boomerang) and a Purple LED on it's head.

All the LED's are set already in the proper places but I'm going to need to Wire stuff up... I'll update this post with pictures when I get the chance but the LED's are sooooo bright! I am so excited and looking forward to finishing this. Going to be Priming most of the kit tonight-Tuesday. The Inner Frame is already painted lol.

Sorry for the lack of pics right now but stay tuned. Hopefully it comes out as good as I am imagining it...

Plus this coming November our Club has someone teaching us how to paint Miniatures! so that'll complete that little Dio Base :D

October 27, 2014, 12:50 PM
Sounds like a really ambitious project good sir. Can't wait to see the results.

October 27, 2014, 9:13 PM
Damn can't wait to see how it turns out XD

October 27, 2014, 9:41 PM
Sounds like fun. I want to do something similar to a MG Destiny. Might want to throw some resistors in there to cut back on the brightness. Might bleed.

How about sequencing them along the catapult like runway lights, that turn on and off in a row?

I've thought of Lightbleeding and believe that I've remedied that (rather prevented really...)

Hopefully it turns out good x.x

So... went ahead and got some work done on my next project... the MG Sword Impulse!

Decided to go with Royal Colors and I am somewhat close to finishing. Wrapping up the LEDs on the sucka.

6 on the base including the Switch

5 on the MS itself.

Here's some pictures, the MS isn't done yet since I have yet to paint my Gray parts... so some parts are missing lol

I am loving the lights on the head, waiting to finish up the effect parts (which is the best part imo)

The LEDs on the head it looks just bright enough. Purple Royal Colors panel lined with Gold while the kit was shaded with Blue.

Going to be fixing the rest of the kit which are just the gray parts... going to pre-shade them with Black.

November 16, 2014, 10:08 AM
I really like the purple on the Sword Impulse man. It seems to really fit it. And the lighting looks great. It's all closed in and there isn't any bleeding what so ever.

December 1, 2014, 7:43 PM
I cleaned up the wiring on the base but forgot to take pictures...

It's so close to completion and I literally have until Saturday to finish this piece!

I also started a Blog for my Gunpla (I was advised by a couple of friends and people I look up to to make one since I've started to finally accept some commission work)

the blog is https://jaygunpla.wordpress.com

Check it out!

Looking good dude. Did you preshade then put white over or just highlight?

I preshaded with Blue then yup the layer of White!

December 2, 2014, 11:57 AM
Looking lovely so far. The blue pre-shade is pleasing to the eye.

December 2, 2014, 12:51 PM
I really like the blue shading, and purple adds to the affect.

April 28, 2015, 6:27 PM
I'll be updating this with the newest build I'm making for GBWC2015.

Hopefully I do well this year and come out with Best of Show rather than 2nd Place.

This would mark my 1 year anniversary with competing so I'm stoaked.

Also Hi! again!

April 28, 2015, 7:14 PM
Welcome back good sir! Seems that a few people on the board is going to enter the GBWC.

April 28, 2015, 9:32 PM
Welcome back 8D. I thought you went blog only for a moment there, lol. I am planning to enter again this year too. Not with as crappy as entry i ended up using last year though.

May 15, 2015, 12:52 PM
Got some pictures taken of my slow progress...

I really should speed up considering I have 20 Days till the Regional GBWC & my Panel...

But here's some pictures

This head will be getting a White LED since I'll be painting the eyes Clear yellow w/ Enamel Black and the Cameras Blue!

Plaplate for a diorama thing

Anti Ship Sword since the Strike will be in Sword Strike mode! Opting to not put an LED in the middle since it looks much better in a slightly darker room than the one pictured. Plus I feel it wouldn't look right :|

Without the light on

With the LED on.

I think it came out pretty well. There's 2 plates like these which I forgot to take the picture of the other but that's pretty much it...

Hopefully I finish this soon since I'm needing to finish a commission aswell ;__;

May 15, 2015, 1:53 PM
Progress looks great! For the head, might be worth painting the inside of the armor black. It will help with the bleeding.

I forgot to this step so I'll have to remedy it later :|

Ugh, so annoyed that this slipped my mind lol.

Anyways here is some more progress.

Worked on the thing that Strike will be cutting and I think the effect I want is actually being achieved.

Not bad actually, I'm glad it turned out OK. Just need to mount the sucker and it's all good.

Now for some progress of the MS itself.

I got the Inner Frame painted and I also managed to get some other works done like...

Parts of the Torso, Arms & Sword Pack...

But I'm also pretty glad that I was able to get the LED on the back working. It'll have either effect parts or smoke coming out of it with the shade of blue. Since I intend on having him flying.

This is the green that will be replacing the originally blue parts of the Strike. IMO it came out nicely, a dark shade of forest green. Doesn't clash too much with the Blue and looks wonderful with the rest of the kit.

Testing to see how it looks, have yet to panel line or decal and it is still glossy as can be.

Here is the head unit before the light is on.

Here it is with all the light leaks that I did not fix properly.

Not too bad... What I have left to do are...

Paint Legs & Waist
Panel Wash
Gloss Coat & Flat Coat
Finish up LEDs
Create Missile Stuffs (I'm having a dilemma about this one)
Finish the Diorama Base...

I have about a week or so to do it so I can work on my Fumina Crossplay... Hopefully I can manage it. I'm still undecided on what I should use for a base... Since I'm going to need a good amount of power to light up the LEDs.

Having 2 in the MS, 2 on the Anti Ship Sword, 3 on the Thing he cuts & 3 for Missiles for a total of 10.

Thoughts and criticism for current progress is appreciated.

I'm kind of glad to be back working on Gunpla, as bad as I procrastinated lol.

Till next update.

My only thought right now is just how awesome this is going to be when you get it done!

June 5, 2015, 6:10 PM
How you getting on, did you get it finished? Your strike was looking very nice, im not a fan of the gold but i do like the over all effect.

Could i ask what size LEDs you are using?

June 9, 2015, 5:34 PM
Just saw on FB, congrat for BoS!

The LED Size for the eyes is actually an SMD LED but as for thursters and explosion it is a 3MM :)
