Sweet! Just a heads up, make sure to VERY carefully flex the leg once you cut it off the tree. The plastic catches and breaks for alot of people. Once you get it flexed a few times you should be fine, but it's a major flaw on the kit.

So, this is the start of my WIP thread. To kick it off, I'm going to build an RG 144th RX-78-2. The kit looks amazing. My plan for this build is to keep it simple as I am a total noob to this. I will build the kit, panel line it, and finally do a clear coat. I'll post pics as I go and feel free to comment and offer wisdom. Thanks!

Done for the day. This kit is amazing in the details that Ban Dai put into it. Will post more as I go.

I'm really enjoying the build. Just taking my sweet time. Very different from how quickly I build an RC car.

Looks-wise, that RG is still pretty to gaze upon. Still one of the better-looking forms of the Original.

From what I can gather, some how his initial post was "updated" when he made another post. And that some how put his post after yours. It doesn't make any sense, but that's the only thing I can see that would cause it.

I think it happened because of the need for a new members first few posts to be moderated. Squee, you are slacking. You need to update this thread more often lol. ;)

Wow, being the lazy person that I am, I never thought I'd sacrifice some sleep by getting up early before work to do a little building, but here I am. Second day in a row that I got a little done.

Regarding panel lining, do you think it'd be easier to use markers or paint for this kit? Those lines are pretty small lol.

Zaku
July 18, 2014, 12:06 PM
I like doing panel/weathering washes. I just do the acrylic mixed with alcohol and get it everywhere then let it dry. Once its dry i go at it with a paper towel soaked in alcohol and remove as much as i feel like. I remove less for a weathered look and more just for panel lining.

Either one should work fine, though paint (in the form of a wash) might be easier to apply. Another option is to use a mechanical pencil, preferably .2mm in size.

Ok, thanks. I was planning on using a Vallejo wash that I have on hand. Don't have any Gundam markers but I'll probably pick some up at some point to try.

How are the parts on it so far? Nothing loose or having a tendency to detach easily?

Theibault
July 21, 2014, 1:43 AM
Parts are pretty good. The only loose parts are the shoulder armor and waist armor. They can be moved very easily, so you have to use a ginger touch when posing it. Other than that, it went together great. Next I'll panel line.

I wound up gluing the armor to the shoulders on this kit because the kept falling out.

Chaser90EK
July 22, 2014, 8:18 AM
Looks great! A lot more detail than old HG version I did. Also had the same problem with the shoulders... my trick was to use dried rubber cement and make little balls that I smushed in between the body and armor. It's sticky enough to keep the shoulder from popping off but still lets me adjust it.

Sweet, thanks for the tips guys. Busy couple days with work, but hopefully I'll have time Wed to do some more. My project table also has 4 RC cars I'm working on and I need to shoot both a video for my gunpla channel and an rc video Wed, so we'll see how much I do manage to get done lol.

I'm back from the dead! Jk, I didn't die, just life got in the way and then I spent all my free time on my RC projects and RC YouTube channel. About a week ago, I got the itch again and now I'll be able to actually devote time to my gunpla. I have finished panel lining and it's ready for stickers and top coat. I may even do some light weathering. I have an airbrush on order which will help with gunpla and RC. Here's a quick peek of where my RX78 stands. More to follow (and hopefully not in a year lol).

Thanks! Those decals were the smallest I've ever seen. I'm starting my second build ( technically the 3rd, but I just snap fit the Astray Red Frame I built 4 years ago) which I plan on being a bit more ambitious. I'm building the HG EZ-sr1 and it will be the first kit I paint. I'll update my progress here. Nice box pic to start with.

Just a small update, all parts are painted and primed. Ran into an issue when I started panel lining, didn't use enough gloss coat and ate into a few parts paint when cleaning up said panel lining (using Tamiya Panel Line Accent Color). No biggie, had to re spray about 15 parts. Lesson learned lol. Been very busy with work, but still progressing with the kit. I'll post pics when I get to assembly.

The Ez SR-1 is done. This was my first time painting a kit and my first time using an airbrush for a kit ( I have airbrushed RC car bodies, but that's very different from this ). I learned a lot through the process and yet I'm still a total noob ;) . It was a fantastic experience and it's really got me planning what's next. This whole kit was done in Vallejo acrylics and the next kit will be lacquer. I'm sure I'll learn tons with that too. Here are a few pics. Sorry for amateur photog skills lol.

Thank you kind sir. I just took my time, learned from mistakes, and fixed them as I went. Regarding using lacquer next, simply out of curiosity and for the sake of experimentation. I'll post what progress I make as I go. Right now, I have the hardest task, picking out the kit. Like the crazy hobbyist I am, I have gone a little overboard with buying kits and am now struggling with analysis paralysis starring at boxes in my office to choose from. I think it'll be one of the other high grades I have. I'll post a pc of the box once I choose.

That's a good kit to start using lacquer paints with thanks to all of its gimmicks. I'm interested to see how your first experience with lacquer paints will turn out. Apart from the fumes, I found them to be much easier to work with overall, especially when fixing errors.

So I made a little progress today working on this kit. There are some seam lines that I see I really need to take care of. Never had to do that but doesn't seem like too difficult a chore. I hope to have every part cut and cleaned so that I might be able to start painting on my next day off on Sunday, life permitting. Not a bad little kit but the HG Ez-sr is away more polished kit out of box. The torso really needs work and sanding as the sides are way off lol.

XXXG-01H, I think we have become so used to the clown shoes on some kits that it makes these look small and it doesn't have heels like some kits. Overall, the RG kit is very well proportioned and I do have the ankle armor pulled low on most of the pics.

Been very busy with work, but I'm still plugging away on the Destiny, albeit slowly. Got all my white and red parts done. When I started, I thought about fixing the seam lines on this kit but changed my mind half way in as I realized this kit is nothing more than a painting exercise. I've really enjoyed using the Mr Hobby lacquer paints. They spray very well when thinned properly. Wish they made bigger bottles lol. I know I'm always off my self imposed deadlines but I hope to finish this kit within 2 weeks.
