View Full Version : Sinervale's WIP Thread

June 19, 2014, 7:48 AM
So...now that I have a couple of different designs in mind, figured I might as well do a general WIP thread.

While I wait for my HG Calamity and Abyss to come in the mail..I made a trip to the store and found the Astrea, which gave me some ideas.

So here is what I picked up with the Astrea to get started...I've seen pictures of it being done before, so not totally original, but gonna see what I can do with them.

http://i946.photobucket.com/albums/ad310/sinervale/Gundam%20Models/E961EF51-CA39-41A0-982D-2BE4A70A58F2_zpsemmunvmy.jpg (http://s946.photobucket.com/user/sinervale/media/Gundam%20Models/E961EF51-CA39-41A0-982D-2BE4A70A58F2_zpsemmunvmy.jpg.html)

And taking some lessons learned from my custom Duel (calling it Duel Sin from now on) I've started putting some of the parts together to get them ready for priming/painting. Being used to working on Privateer Press models, this should make it easier overall for me.

http://i946.photobucket.com/albums/ad310/sinervale/Mobile%20Uploads/2014-06/184C79FD-ADEB-4404-BA2F-944BCBE2E7C9_zpsvpz6ruac.jpg (http://s946.photobucket.com/user/sinervale/media/Mobile%20Uploads/2014-06/184C79FD-ADEB-4404-BA2F-944BCBE2E7C9_zpsvpz6ruac.jpg.html)

As I am always open to suggestions, I've got quite a few kits that I can pull parts from. So feel free to make suggestions.

Time to get the Astrea Sin started so it can join the party!

Astrea avalanche would be nice. I saw someone make a red version in a local competition once and it looks awesome.

June 19, 2014, 3:36 PM
Astraea is a good kit. I had the 1/100 standard grade and it was really cool. Of course I gave it away but I would love to see your custom one.

June 19, 2014, 11:41 PM
still working on the base Astrea kit, but now I am conflicted on going the avalanche route, since it has been done by others...another idea is finding a way to try and attach the back boosters of the Tallgeese and modify the verniers into GN thrusters....still playing around with ideas

Edit: Or....I can add in 00 twin drive...hmmm

Edit 2: Disregard...sticking with the original plan...I gotta stop worrying about what others have done.

June 20, 2014, 11:04 AM
Edit 2: Disregard...sticking with the original plan...I gotta stop worrying about what others have done.

Wise words, seriously. So what if someone else has done it already? How you'll do it will be different so it won't be the same.

June 20, 2014, 11:13 AM
Ok...so got the model pretty much assembled and it's ready to hit the painting stage. Here is basically what the finished model will look like.

http://i946.photobucket.com/albums/ad310/sinervale/Gundam%20Models/2A7A4762-7D2D-4AA3-920A-58A383A86746_zps1kexfflv.jpg (http://s946.photobucket.com/user/sinervale/media/Gundam%20Models/2A7A4762-7D2D-4AA3-920A-58A383A86746_zps1kexfflv.jpg.html)

It gives me a sort of "early 00-Raiser" feel. Initially I wanted both the right and left blades to be the same, but making it asymmetrical just seems to fit, and reminds me of the sword fighters who had a sword in the main hand, and a parrying dagger in the left, so that is staying. I mostly wanted the kit to maintain a slim look, and I think I got that nailed.

So now all I gotta do is break it down, and begin the painting process (and for those wondering, I hand paint)

June 20, 2014, 12:12 PM
Nice work man. I does give off that "Pre 00" feel. I like it.

June 20, 2014, 1:10 PM
Very nice and I agree, looks like the prototype of the 00 Raiser minus the clunky Raiser part behind it. What kind of color scheme do you have planned for it?

June 20, 2014, 6:41 PM
Looks cool! Are you doing anything with the head? And don't say dark matter color scheme cuz that would be too easy for us to imagine. What will be your color scheme?

June 20, 2014, 7:01 PM
I'm debating on the color scheme right now....definitely not going Dark Matter....right now, I'm thinking of keeping it mostly white, and having the GN color be more of a blue than green....still thinking of what the accent color will be.

As for his head, I got it all in separate pieces and going to paint that before I put it together...and thats mostly because of the eyes

June 22, 2014, 3:43 AM
GN blue eh? That would be cool.

June 24, 2014, 11:01 PM
Ok, so a little behind on working on this....Work keeps me from being able to get things done, how rude of them.

Anyways, started on one of the legs and this will give you an idea of what the color scheme will look like once it is finished.

June 25, 2014, 12:37 AM
Looking good so far. Is that brown? I can't tell that well from the photo.

June 25, 2014, 12:47 AM
I'm loving what you did for the GN particle thruster/emitter thing. I don't think I've seen it done like that before.

June 25, 2014, 1:35 AM
Sorry about the photo quality...the color I went for is a dark red/maroon color. I'll try and get some better lighted pictures when I can.

June 25, 2014, 3:29 AM
Ohh that's a new color I haven't seen on a MS. Either way, it looks sweet!

June 25, 2014, 7:42 AM
I'm liking it. I always thought that red looks really good on the Exia/00 units. And that dark maroon will look really good.

July 9, 2014, 6:29 AM
So after a severe bout of laziness and a touch of ADD (consisting of straight builds of 5 other models), here is a long overdue update shot.

http://i946.photobucket.com/albums/ad310/sinervale/Gundam%20Models/C0052E76-1905-439A-84EA-C6A694D71FC2_zpsfeo3eax1.jpg (http://s946.photobucket.com/user/sinervale/media/Gundam%20Models/C0052E76-1905-439A-84EA-C6A694D71FC2_zpsfeo3eax1.jpg.html)

Starting to get there, just need to get started on the arms and head, then the weapons, and this bad boy will be good to go.

July 9, 2014, 8:43 AM
Looking really good mate. I'm loving that maroon.

July 9, 2014, 7:59 PM
Nice, paint application is tight and accurate and the color shades look to be going well together. I like the color you used for the center chest piece.

July 10, 2014, 7:34 AM
Thanks...Once I hit my weekend, I'll hit this hard to try and wrap it up in those 4 days.

In the meantime, and while I wait for my Calamity and Abyss to arrive, I've thought of a challenge for myself that you all get to participate in.

For my next project, to go alongside my Calamity/Abyss job, YOU all can decide the base kit I use and build off of. This can be a mobile suit fits my personality as you think best (any and all questions can be asked to help in your decision of a base kit)....This can be in either HG or MG. By the 14th of July, I'll go pay a visit to the Gundam Base store and pick up the base model and start brainstorming ideas on making this think look awesome.

July 10, 2014, 7:59 AM
Looking awesome so far, sir!

July 10, 2014, 1:48 PM
Thanks Chaser.

As for the 4th build that I asked for suggestions for the base mobile suit to use, looking over the 3 I have (built - Duel, In Progress - Astrea, Planned - Calamity) I don't really have a fast assault type...so time to start doing research it seems for the fourth model in the Sin lineup.

July 18, 2014, 11:31 PM
Ok...so I know my updates have been very lacking, but my motivation took a nose dive and I've been clearing out some of my backlog (HG Harute, MG Sandrock Ver. Ka, MG Duel w/Assault Shroud)

Going to try and get back into it and wrap it up. Seoul is going to be having a Gunpla Expo here till the 27th over at I'park mall, so hoping that gives me a kick in the pants to finish this build. And I need to add being a more active member on the boards in general.

July 19, 2014, 1:35 AM
Must be nice to have an expo there. Don't worry too much about the lack of motivation and activity. We all get like that from time to time.

July 19, 2014, 2:45 AM
It'll be a first for me, so should be interesting...I'll be sure to keep a lookout for anything noteworthy to share

October 29, 2014, 8:15 AM
Ok...so going to be coming in hard and fast after a short break from building Gunpla...(GBF Try may have had something to do with this)

So going to work on a new model, HG line, and have it be something I would use as my partner if Gunpla Battle was actually a thing. The initial plan was for a cross between the Cherudim and the Duel, but after some tests, I can't make the two work together. So after some thinking, I've decided to meld both the Cherudim and the Zabanya together to create the type of mobile suit I have sitting in my head...I have to go get a Zabanya kit, but once I do, GAME ON!

October 29, 2014, 8:30 AM
Nice, never ceases to amaze me of all the gundams I haven't heard of. Really like that green base on the Cherudim. Which one are you going to make the base?

October 29, 2014, 5:25 PM
Zabanya is more than likely going to be the base....that suit has missiles all over his body, which leaves fixing the two "walls" created by his shield bits to fix.

October 29, 2014, 7:06 PM
Ah ok, can't wait to see how it turns out

October 29, 2014, 7:51 PM
00 Gundams FTW! I'm in line to see this project.

October 30, 2014, 10:19 PM
So kits and paints are bought....pictures to follow later today.

Plan was to change all the green to a metallic blue finish, but decided to go a different route and do those in a metallic green finish...in my head it looks awesome, so just have to execute

October 31, 2014, 11:03 AM
^ You going to try out your desired colors on a spoon first?

November 1, 2014, 9:30 AM
I already did....halloween is kinda crazy here so i'll post the spoons and where the project is at when I wake up

- - - Updated - - -

Allrighty, so here are the test spoons...The bottom one was Tamiya clear green over silver, while the top one was Mr Color #77 Metallic Green Spray. Went with the top one because I liked the color better overall, and I get to avoid the brush strokes I caused using the clear green. (Airbrush acquisition after I get back home to the states in the couple of months)

http://i946.photobucket.com/albums/ad310/sinervale/20141101_143829_zps531b9aee.jpg (http://s946.photobucket.com/user/sinervale/media/20141101_143829_zps531b9aee.jpg.html)

Since I already have a Zabanya built, Here is a comparison between the chest pieces...one is straight OOB with the stickers and the other is with the metallic green applied.

So I've got the torso finished....Taking my time with this over my Duel is really paying off. Ending tonight here and gonna work on the waist tomorrow.

November 1, 2014, 10:26 AM
I think that you made the right choice. That green suits a 00 suit. And it's much more smooth. It's hard to brush on clear paints without showing brush strokes.

November 1, 2014, 1:55 PM
The metallic green is indeed a much better choice. Everything is looking nice so far.

November 1, 2014, 5:56 PM
looking good looking good, that green is really coming along well. Really makes me want to use that metallic green someday XD

November 2, 2014, 6:00 AM
So today's job of the waist armor is completed. Here is a front/side/rear view of the waist attached to the chest.

And to end the night with a relaxing OOB build of this beauty....you guys have been a big influence on me paying more attention to grunt suits than the main suits.

November 3, 2014, 2:14 AM
I like the consistent details on the waist and chest. Handpainting those areas or masking and airbrushing?

Also, +1 for working on a Grimoire.

November 3, 2014, 6:40 PM
Details are handpainted. And the Grimoire is a very enjoyable kit to build

- - - Updated - - -

Legs are finished....the project is going to slow down for a bit now that my weekend is over with...so look forward to this guy being completed by the time my next weekend is over with.

November 3, 2014, 6:47 PM
Oh wow, that green looks nice. That lining looks very sharp, too.

November 4, 2014, 12:07 AM
Thanks Bossguy.

Well disaster struck (not really, just being melodramatic) and my green is all used up...so I'm going to have to go get more, which may not be till this weekend...which will leave the shoulders and the head waiting.

In the meantime I'll have to post up my different ideas on the primary weapons and get your guy's feedback on them for which ones to use...currently there are three choices.

- - - Updated - - -

So here are the choices.

http://i946.photobucket.com/albums/ad310/sinervale/Mobile%20Uploads/20141104_140014_zpsktn3tgcd.jpg (http://s946.photobucket.com/user/sinervale/media/Mobile%20Uploads/20141104_140014_zpsktn3tgcd.jpg.html)

Top: Pair of pistols from one of the Frame Arms kits

Bottom: Zabanya's GN Pistols

Third: Cherudim's GN Sniper Rifle II, minus the sniper part on one of the two.

November 4, 2014, 1:52 AM
I vote for the top pair. Looks beefier with a tad more details. Then include the GN Sniper Rifle II as a back-up.

November 4, 2014, 9:13 PM
^agreed the top pair look better to me

November 4, 2014, 11:08 PM
I kinda like the bottom pair myself. I like a hand gun with a melee weapon on the bottom.

November 6, 2014, 9:57 AM
Ya'll have definitely given me some things to think about in terms of armaments. Thanks and to the drawing board I go.

- - - Updated - - -

quick update....got a new can of green and work can continue....so soon this will be done and then I can challenge Ommeh and his creation!

- - - Updated - - -

So I got another thing ya'll may be able to help me out with..I want to do a modified The-O (last name begins with an O, so it seems fitting I have a custom one). However, I want to give it the Miss Sazabi Treatment and slim it down a tad (not to the same extent Aila did with Sazabi), but for the life of me I haven't figured out how I would even begin to start planning that one....was possibly thinking of using a Kshatriya, but not sure if that'll work out. Any ideas would be appreciated to get my brain working on the planning for that while I finish up my Zabanya.

November 8, 2014, 5:12 AM
I actually really like the idea of a slimmed down O. I'm not quite sure of a method to go about it right now but I support it haha

Are you going with the MG version?

November 10, 2014, 4:54 AM
I usually save custom builds for HG right now...The O project will probably be in the planning phase for a while. In the meantime, the current project is almost done and here is Zabanya minus his weapons...those are the last things to be worked on.

http://i946.photobucket.com/albums/ad310/sinervale/Gundam%20Models/20141110_184024_zpskrtmkq6l.jpg (http://s946.photobucket.com/user/sinervale/media/Gundam%20Models/20141110_184024_zpskrtmkq6l.jpg.html)

November 10, 2014, 4:55 AM
Nice. That green just pops.

November 10, 2014, 5:49 AM
Great one, sir! Love those metallic green.

And for the weapon, i vote the bottom pair, when you got guns with blade you good to go on melee or long-range combat.

November 10, 2014, 8:32 AM
Thanks Zeta and Skul. I know what I'm going to do with the primary weapons now, so once it's daylight I can get to work on those. And for anyone interested, here is a comparison between my Zabanya and the original Zabanya.

November 10, 2014, 8:54 AM
Looking good man

November 10, 2014, 8:58 AM
^Yep, definitely yours better. Love the green, and small grey detail beef it up. Your custom shoulder armor a lot better than the original.

Looking forward for the weapon, mate.

November 10, 2014, 9:14 AM
The shoulders are from the HG Cherudim Gundam, Zabanya's predecessor. Appreciate the responses.

November 10, 2014, 9:24 AM
I see, that's why it look so fitting on zanbaya..

November 10, 2014, 12:19 PM
Yours looks 100x better man. I love that green!

November 10, 2014, 1:03 PM
That green reminds me of how shiny the Zabanya was in the 00 movie. Looks really good and the Cherudim shoulders work well with the rest of the kit.

November 10, 2014, 10:06 PM
Thanks guys.

As this one is wrapping up, I got the next one already in mind and going to the shop to finalize and get what I need. Zeon has the Super Zaku F2000, so it's only fitting that the Feds get a Super GM to fight that monster.

November 10, 2014, 10:22 PM
I so want to copy this...The paint kicks...I'm not much for gloss but in this case I'm willing to make an exception with enthusiasm...

November 11, 2014, 3:24 AM
Thanks yet again guys. For the green, I used Mr. Color Spray #77 Metallic Green. And it is actually not as glossy as it seems in the pictures, and this is after it has a flat matt coat on it to project the paint job.

So the main weapons got finished today, now to just do the rest of them and this puppy will be ready to go.

Oooh, nice, those pistols came out nicely. The clear pieces don't look out of place too. You going to paint them or leave them neutral?

November 11, 2014, 12:06 PM
Nice work on those Pistols man. The chrome came out great, and the green, again, looks fantastic.

November 11, 2014, 12:07 PM
Oh wow, that is spiffy. I love that green.

November 14, 2014, 8:32 AM
@Dlinker: Gonna leave the clear pieces neutral...I haven't worked with clear pieces before, all my modeling experience before Gunpla being with Warmachine/Hordes models. I got some extra clear parts somewhere I can experiment with later though.

@thwalker13: The chrome on the pistols is actually just P3 Frostbite mixed with a touch of P3 Ironhull Grey.

All that is left on this guy is his other pistols and finish the waist armor and he'll be good to go.

So at work and working on a Valvrave Unit 03 and holy hell the stickers.....all the stickers!

November 14, 2014, 12:06 PM
Yeah, I've seen the reviews of Valvrave kits and man, it's sticker mania. You're going to put them all on?

November 18, 2014, 1:10 AM
I did use them all....can't have a camera at work, so as soon as I can I'll post some pictures of him....still a fun build, though I'm going to have nightmares about stickers now.

Here is a teaser pic of what the super GM is going to be made out of kit wise.

Super GM, away!!!!

November 18, 2014, 1:23 AM
That's a lot of potential parts. Can't wait to see the preliminary mock-ups.

November 18, 2014, 3:08 AM
You are right Dlinker...gives me lots of options...was going to use a Powered GM over the GM III, but then it would look to similar to the Powered GM Cardigan, and I wanted to avoid that.

Right now trying to decide on color scheme before I start messing with pieces.

That...was the best picture ever...and almost made me reconsider the project...

Zakus b scurred...

November 23, 2014, 10:46 PM
So while at work I was browsing gundam wiki at a bunch of different GMs to maybe get some other ideas for Super GM (name to be determined) and ran across this...

This model actually uses the same three models I was going to use...while not the route I was going to take it's just like, it's just kind of like, "well damnit"

Brainstorming has started, and will be starting doing some test fitting tonight on some parts and seeing if I may need to do some cutting/putty work.

Ok...it's been a bit, but I swear I haven't forgotten about the GM. The planning is taking longer than I thought it would and some ideas weren't working like I thought they would. But here is a quick bit of one thing I have figured out.

http://i946.photobucket.com/albums/ad310/sinervale/Gundam%20Models/20141124_121354_zpsigeyxjpa.jpg (http://s946.photobucket.com/user/sinervale/media/Gundam%20Models/20141124_121354_zpsigeyxjpa.jpg.html)

http://i946.photobucket.com/albums/ad310/sinervale/Gundam%20Models/20141124_121425_zpsursaq5zl.jpg (http://s946.photobucket.com/user/sinervale/media/Gundam%20Models/20141124_121425_zpsursaq5zl.jpg.html)

Some trimming will be needed and I'll need to do some putty work over the top, but that's the start.

ALSO...because of the Ugly Gundams thread, I started to look into the Raphael Gundam and got an idea. So I just got the kits I needed and here they are with the model that gave me the idea on what to do to make this Gundam better/cooler.

Custom kitbashes are rarely ever straightforward so I'm not surprised at the challenge you're encountering with the GM. So far, what you got is looking nice, though.

Really curious to see what you'll come up with for the Raphael and those two other kits. I can only hope you integrate those big arms from the Valvrave kit, haha.

November 25, 2014, 7:26 AM
The plan is to turn those giant GN Cannons/Claws into arms like the Valvrave kit

So work has decided to just not make me a happy person and I did some retail therapy. Picked this guy up because he just looked cool (according to the manual is the S Gundam) and I wanted a fun, relaxing build. So figured I'd share it with ya'll as I decided I'll do panel lining and paint anything that is using stickers (well most of it, the halberd stickers are rainbow shiny). It's been almost a year since I've hand painted anything, and I need to get those skills back up to par.

Building a new kit always helps me to relax as well.

December 7, 2014, 7:05 AM
I swear I haven't forgotten about my promises of a Custom GM build and the Custom Raphael build. However, I have got to put the projects on hold for now until I get back to the States and into a new residence. Only have about a month and a half left and I don't want to either rush this job or have the job half finished before I have to pack them up and something happens to them in transit.

For those curious, the GM build has had a couple of changes. Simply put, I'm pulling a Gyanko and using an Advanced Hazel as the base now (it's development tree goes back the the GM, so it counts!) and that should make for an even better custom build that what I had in mind previously.

December 8, 2014, 10:37 AM
If you have pics of the new changes, then all is forgiven :D

December 9, 2014, 11:12 AM
If that is what it'll take, then ok, I'll start on it before I forget what the plan is. Just because you asked for them Dlinker.

December 9, 2014, 1:13 PM
Haha, cool. Have you had to do any major surgeries on your kitbash yet?

December 9, 2014, 1:51 PM
not yet...I've been sidetracked and truthfully haven't technically started....the one major part, if I stick with it, is finding a way to get the Strike's Agni Launcher mounted on the bad boy.

- - - Updated - - -

Luckily I am off work today, so once I take care of some things, I can spend the rest of the day actually working on the kit bash.

February 10, 2016, 12:37 PM
So after a little over a year break, I'm reviving my little Gunpla garage, and with it, a return to a kitbash that I never finished, my Astrea. Early pictures are earlier on in this thread, but since my move some of pieces are missing and I'm stripping the paintjob (I think it looks bad) and have to figure out what I'm going to use to replace the missing parts.

- - - Updated - - -

so looks like the Astrea might be boned. After 3 days of soaking in simple green, the primer will not come off. So while I play around with that to see if it can be saved, I'm going to work on a Mk. II version, taking the same idea I had with the Astrea, using the Exia Repair II, 00 Raiser, and the Quanta for potential parts. WIP pics will be coming once I get a plan and start working.
