View Full Version : Which Dom to get?

I currently have a Super Zaku Custom with a few minor modifications to it. The next mech on my list is a Kampfer. Not sure what changes I'll be making to it, but I'll figure that out when I get my hands on it. My goal with these mechs is to have a three man team that does hit and run operations. However, I'm having a hard time picking out the third mech for the team. I was considering a Geara Doga, but decided that its year of production felt 'too recent' to fit next to the other two. Not that the SZK has much to do with 0080, but hey... who cares? lol.

So now I'm looking at the list of different Dom kits available on Gundamstoreandmore.com. Dom, Rick Dom, Dom Tropen, Dom Trooper, Dom II. These kits and models are so similar, I'm having a hard time deciding which is the best buy. Both aesthetically, timeline wise, and quality of model wise. So can anyone here make some suggestions for me? Or are there some other kits I should be looking at for this 'lineup' of mine?

Also... are those fuel tanks on the feet of the Dom Tropen and the back of the Rick Dom II?

Some links would've helped.

http://www.gundamstoreandmore.com/ban941037.html - Dom/Rick Dom
http://www.gundamstoreandmore.com/ban78209.html - Dom Tropen
http://www.gundamstoreandmore.com/ban907723.html - A second Dom Tropen but in Sand Brown and a lot of weapons
http://www.gundamstoreandmore.com/ban934114.html - Dom Trooper
http://www.gundamstoreandmore.com/unceridomiim.html - Rick Dom II
http://www.gundamstoreandmore.com/ban955740.html - a second Rick Dom II but in light green

So those are pretty much the options. You said you wanted a 3rd MS for a team of hit and run operations. I'd vote on the second Dom Tropen just because it has so many weapons.

That Depends, MG or HG?

Also (And this In My Opinion) ID go with the Gelgoog for what your talking about. besides Cannonically its the first Zeon unit to utilize compact Beam weaponry like the Feddies Gundam. and it looks alot more cooler than a Dom in my opinion.

I'm pretty sure they don't make an MG for the Super Zaku Custom, for the Gunpla Beginners series suit.

Ah, sorry for not mentioning that I get HG models. But yes, the other two models are HG. I had considered the Gelgoog, Gouf Flight Type, Efreet (could only find a single/expensive model), Gerbera Tetra, and a few others... But I had settled on the Dom. The Gouf Flight Type was ruled out after some serious consideration as to fuel and being exposed to AA fire (yes, I know I'm putting too much thought into this), and the Efreet was ruled out at as the third when I couldn't find a suitable kit for it. Which was disappointing, because I really liked the model and felt that it was a good fit for the team. I didn't really like the gelgoog as a member of this squad. Something about the design just didn't feel right. Maybe it was the lack of spiky shoulders... Maybe it was the broad, angular chest... I don't know... I just didn't like the way it looked with the other two.

From what reviews I could find, I feel that the desert Dom Tropen comes with the best weapon loadout, and that the Dom Trooper (despite my hate for the beam shield) is the most aesthetically pleasing model. I think the thing about the Dom Trooper that I like is the bigger shoulders and smaller chest, as well as the larger forearms looking better. But I was wanting to get the opinions of some of the other forum members here before I went ahead with any plans.

Any other opinions or suggestions? also, is this (http://www.gundamstoreandmore.com/ban932917.html) the only Efreet model out there?

As far as quality of kits go, I'd recommend the Dom/Rick Dom kit. A close second would be the Rick Dom II. Also, I'm totally interested in seeing pictures of your Super Zaku and Kampfer. I'm a big fan of both suits.

Once GNzaku finishes painting the SZC, I'll get some pictures put on here. I didn't do much the the Zaku. It was such a good model. Someone that's familiar with it will notice the changes, otherwise it would take some comparing. I'm gonna have to see the two standing side-by-side before I'll have any ideas for customizing the Kampfer. Pics will happen though. GNzaku does such nice paint jobs, it'd be a shame not to share them.

Oh hell, you know GNZ? Has he shown you his ReZel? If so, that was my work.

Haha yeah I showed him Asterisk :P

Trust me Waid, when that Super Zaku is done it's gonna look just as good as Bix's Driessen that I did. Also, I'm glad you've found a liking for the Efreet, unfortunately, the only other kit is an expensive conversion kit. but yeah, listen to Asterisk, he knows a thing or two about the Dom kits.

Then id go with the 1/144 Rick Dom. That Beam Launcher is AWESOME!!!
