hey guys i'm new here haha and thought my first post would be a WIP thread. I used to build kits when i was younger (7-8 years ago) and recently got back into it only to realize i massacred my old kits (the nubs looked like i just tore them off the sprues, no cutting!). so the plan is to try and salvage some of my older kits, try and make them look pretty while building new kits. (i'll post the kits i already salvaged in the ego zone/finished kits section)

so lets start off with my current obsession. 144th Kshatriya

and then there is this guy haha not sure what to do with him right now but, i thought he could use some more weapons.

Welcome to the forums good sir. The Kshatriya is looking really good. And so is the Bearguy. What are you using to paint the Kshatriya? Rattle cans or an airbrush?

Kyshatria with that color?

My hats off to you sir. Gold and black work well with one another, especially if the gold is a dull Brass (which is what im seeing lol) Bravo sir lol

Still, you do possess talent. If you truly wish to be a Gunpla master, then come with me. You've been entrusted with the Gunpla of the past and undergone training not unlike Pro-builder, now that you have exhibited the power of you can never go back to being a part of that everyone. One day you run head long into the fun that we have discovered.

If you don't get it, it's from Gundam UC episode 6 where Full Frontal has a "talk" with Banagher in the Nahel Argama's hanger.

i got a little bit more done today. i always seem to get in the "mood" to model late into the day and i end up not getting very much done haha. i forgot to mention that i ordered some 3rd party parts for kshatriya before i started painting so until those parts come in i won't be able to finish kshatriya. anyways here is what i got done today!

i heard about an add on kit that replaces the binders/wings with more detailed ones that even have a moving center piece and it comes with more detailed arm guards and bigger thighs for the kit.

Besides the binders I really can't tell a difference in the body parts. Though it would be a really cool addition to the kit. Certainly make it that much more unique. And add in your cool color scheme that you'd have a really cool kit.

Wow, very interesting add-on kit. I think I need to start digging through eBay and see what stuff can be found. This is the first time I've heard of this particular item.

Can't wait to see how this turns out for you.

add-on kit came in today so i got some more done today :D

customized 1/100 HG Deathscythe hell's beam scythe for kshatriya to use. nothing too crazy just used the left over parts from my MG redframe to add a vent and some blades onto the beam scythe

http://i142.photobucket.com/albums/r108/99golf/gundam%20stuff/kshatriya015_zpsa2df1edc.jpg (http://s142.photobucket.com/user/99golf/media/gundam%20stuff/kshatriya015_zpsa2df1edc.jpg.html)

they sent me some freebie metal effect parts for the binders but, i don't know how to install them so i'm just going to use the parts that came with the kit

http://i142.photobucket.com/albums/r108/99golf/gundam%20stuff/kshatriya009_zpsaf8eae42.jpg (http://s142.photobucket.com/user/99golf/media/gundam%20stuff/kshatriya009_zpsaf8eae42.jpg.html)

i'm hoping to finish it tomorrow.

my review of the add-on kit so far is i like it although the plastic feels softer/cheaper but, sturdy enough not to be super fragile. i'm also seem to have 3 extra sets of thigh pieces and one pair of arm pieces haha.

I like the addition of the beam scythe. I think it fits the curvy yet bulky and imposing design of the Kshatriya.

I notice that bottle of Citadel paint. You use them often on your kits?

well it was going to be done today but, i ran out of paint(left arm just needed 1 more coat when the can just ran out on me lol and my hobby shop was out the paint i needed so kshatriya is on hold for now but, heres what i got done. i should be able to atleast assemble the binders tomorrow since they're all painted up.

the funnels were going to be grey like the armor but, when i ran out of paint i figured i would paint them black instead to stand out against the inner frame.

http://i142.photobucket.com/albums/r108/99golf/gundam%20stuff/kshatriya008_zps51b94845.jpg (http://s142.photobucket.com/user/99golf/media/gundam%20stuff/kshatriya008_zps51b94845.jpg.html)

starting to have issues with the moving parts on the 3rd party binders, seems like the plastic is too soft to really hold them together while they're moving but, it holds together well when positioned so there is no fear of it just falling off on its on.

with all that said i got two packages today.

finish kshatriya today! "Mortem Alae" build. I drove to another hobby shop to get more paint, my bunder cannons got scratched installing the mid section so i had to go back and touch them up. i'm not entirely happy with the 3rd party parts but, they're not horrible.

i think i'm just going to build it as is with the decals and some top coat to dull down the plastic sheen. like i did with my MG redframe. i kind of just want to do something less intense build after the kshatriya haha. i do want to pick up the 2.0 some day and do a super battle scared build of that. my friend told me to get that mega-scale rx-78-2 and go nuts so i would like to do that too. (maybe a megas XLR theme on it? haha!)

i also impulse preordered the expansion set from genteikits.com for the 3.0 haha

but for now i think my next build will be another salvage mission, this time for my MG Ez8, hes missing one of his antennas so maybe another weathering job like my ground type. only this time i can test out my new dremel haha

the more i look at the box art the more i want to put them on so maybe i'll do what you sugested and just put the ones i want to like i did with my MG redframe. sadly no they're not waterslides

thwalker13
September 11, 2013, 7:42 AM
The waterslides only came with the premium expansion of the kit Dlinker.

I'd probably just put on the ones that are on the flat molded areas. Less chance they will come off over time.

Dlinker
September 11, 2013, 10:51 AM
Really? All this time, I thought they had been waterslides. I'm slightly disappointed. Time to make another order to Samuel Decal then.

On topic, I also endorse just going with those that are on flat areas. Easier to apply and they won't stick out as much.

They really should've included water slide decals with the kit. I pre ordered the expansion primarily for the LED and water slides. Bandai sure know how to milk more money out of me. I already have extra weapons that are the same from my 2.0 if I want to pose with dual hyper bazookas. If it didn't include the LED I'd probably just order the decals from Samuel. I also wonder why the expansion parts come out so much after the kit itself. As far as I know they aren't out yet, I'm guessing I'll get word of them shipping any day now.
Honestly, I think since this is the first in the 3.0 MG revolution line, Bandai should've included the expansion items with the kit. I know Bandai are in business to make money but I think it would've been a good promo to include the extras. Especially as a new MG series launch kit. They could've even done it for the first production run or something like that. Oh well...

I could live without the LED unit. In a pinch I'd just get a green on and change the LED our for an orange one. But I really think that the waterslides should have been included with the 3.0. I mean all the Ver. Ka. kits come with waterslides so why not the kit that is supposed to revolutionize the MG line?

Anyways on topic again. Putting decals on flat surfaces is always a good idea. I looked at my RG Strike last night and a lot of stickers that bend over an edge have come loose on one side.

You forgot to mask the cockpit when you flat coated the core fighter? Or your gloss coat caused it to fog up?

i've started my next build but, i plan to enter it into HLJ's contest so i can't show anything until july :( but, fear not! i will still have something to show. i want to salvage my MG Ez8 with another weathered looking kit. i've had this Ez8 for a while just like my ground type so i cleaned up some nubs as best i could without putty and with a missing antenna i figured i would go for the weathered look again to match the ground type. so i'll do my Ez8 along side my HLJ contest entry so i can still share some work on here :D

For the rust effect. You could get either the Tamiya weathering B or C set. The have 2 tone of rust that can be applied after painting.

I'm actually surprised the damage isn't worse than that, but then again, this poor suit probably encountered a canon Kira (due to that clean cut across the torso), rather than a ragefest Kira, haha.

The battle damage is accurate and that's what does it for me. There are spots that are pristine, which I think is more realistic compared to every area having some kind of scratch/dent/hole/etc.

Excellent progress.

so this is a seed kit? someone on instagram informed me but, wasn't specific and my buddy just gave me this guy with a half built 00 kit and an HG blue frame missing it's face lol

i just ordered the scenic rust so i'm debating using it on this diorama or leaving this the way it is now. what do you guys think?

Dlinker
September 24, 2013, 6:45 PM
Yeah, I think that's a SEED kit, though I don't know exactly which suit (not too familiar with my ZAFT suits).

Regarding the rust, it's all on what your vision is for this presentation. I'm getting the impression that it's a recent wreck so I would pass on the rust, but if you want it to be a wreck from a long time ago, then the rust will be a great addition.

When it comes to that kind of stuff, it seems best to do the minimal amount and add more should you see fit. Personally, I think it's fine with the amount you put on.

The look gives off an impression that the suit has been in some high-moisture areas due to how narrow and specific the rusted spots are. A bullet hole or two in the chest section wouldn't be out of place, haha.

thwalker13
September 30, 2013, 7:38 AM
I tend to agree with Dlinker. The amount that you have I think works perfectly with the suit. Like Dlinker said, maybe a bullet or 2 in the chest plus some in the shield will really bring it all together.

That rust stuff is pretty cool. Might have to look into it if I ever decide to try out some weathering.

i have been slacking on the updates to make up for it here are some pictures haha. i assembled the RG mk-II titans and i have to say it is the best RG i've built! although that may not be saying much since the only other RG i built was the strike and sky grasper. compared to the strike its so solid... makes me want to not finish the strike and just sell it haha.

I agree, the sword fits the aesthetics of the MK.II. Make it a dark colored blade to match the color scheme and it's a winner.

Interesting that you say it's more solid than the Strike. I have the RG Strike as well and thought it was pretty solid so that just shows how good the MK.II is. What's up next for this well-done beauty?

not sure yet, for now its sitting in the glass case un top coated. i don't like the white decals it comes with so i might leave it as is and make a custom cloak like i did for my ground type. to give it a stealth look. on top of that the 3.0 add on/expansion came in earlier than expected.

Are you okay with using SEED HG kits? IF so, then perhaps the recent Red Frame release may be a good choice. If you prefer something more bulky, an HGUC Zeon suit or even a one of the ZAFT suits might be suitable as well due to their curvy aesthetics.

i almost picked up the strike noir HG yesterday at my local hobby shop haha! if its still there today i'll pick it up. i also want to preorder the sengoku astray from buildfighters and the new thunderbolts full armor gundam. preorders are now up on HLJ if anyone else wants to secure their box... man i just sounded like an HLJ commercial with that last sentence haha.

keeping it kind of traditional. it will be black but, with a matte clear since thats all i have haha so it should be interesting! i have been slacking though. i ended up finishing that cannon so i didn't get anything done for the car and it does come with the engine and nice chrome bits for the wheels, intake manifold and other parts.

Loving the ideas for those two weapons so far. Personally, I'm a fan of anything twin-barreled and the twin particle cannon is on the right track. Might need a bit more bulk on the back-end, but that's it.

The sword is really nice and I like how the edges look segmented from the center section, as if they're replaceable. Only nitpick is possibly a bigger handle? That's just me, though.

thwalker13
October 11, 2013, 1:04 PM
Since Dlinker mentioned it, a sword of that size would naturally have an elongated handle. Also if I recall, didn't the real GNX come in a semi gloss or a matte finish?

i decal'd the RG mk2 titans color today but, the right leg came out horrible. the decal just doesn't want to stay on so i took a hair dryer to it gave it some MR. mark setter(after some MR. mark softer), squeezed with all the force i could and top coated it in the hopes that it would help lol. after top coating i noticed i missed a decal on the shield and the backs of the legs. this is not my best but, at least i tried haha. i took many pictures and they ALL came out blurry so i give up for today, you win RG mk2 titans color! i'll try again tomorrow lol.

So which is easier: stickers on this one or stickers on the RG version?

i would say the MG's stickers are easier to apply since there are less of them and its a bigger kit. although with that said i prefer the quality(?) of sticker used on the RG its less noticeable that its a sticker. like the ones used on the RX-78-2 3.0. you can really tell bandai has made improvements to the stickers since this kit came out. the problem i ran into on both kits were stickers that just wouldn't do curved surfaces well even with some MR. Mark Softer. so when i got those issues on the MG (which were the two triangle caution markings above the thrusters) i opted to just scrap them after the first attempt. it was like trying to wrap a ball with a piece of printer paper haha.

October 20, 2013, 2:27 PM
Yeah, the stickers on the MG MK.II are pretty thick when compared to those from an RG kit, but it's interesting to know that they've gotten better since.

Sucks to hear about the stickers on rounded surfaces, though. I didn't have problems on mine and the extra color they add do add to the appearance.

B6Drew
October 21, 2013, 3:09 AM
i finished the MG mk2 tonight and i'm unsure if i'm happy with the results or not... maybe its because i built it right after the RG but, it seems to be lacking something and i can't get the legs to stand evenly haha although it is very sturdy and has awesome articulation!

its hard to describe, its like the feet don't sit fully planted on the ground. i fiddled with it a bit for the pictures. some poses look kind of awkward and if that spare bazooka clip falls off the side skirt one more time i'm going to incinerate it with a blow torch lol it doesn't stay on snugly like the rifle does  pictures should be up soon!

first things first i am not biased toward either microsoft or sony(both have their good and bad qualities so it makes no sense for me to "choose a side"). i chose the PS4 because i hate connect and well it was cheaper haha. so with that out of the way. it is amazing. the fluidity of the new taskbar/OS is just amazing. that CPU/GPU combo and the GDDR5 memory seems to be working super well (for now, we'll see if its still just as fast once these games start getting more hardware intensive). there is no stutter or lag when pressing the PS button to do something on the PS menu while playing a game. so thats awesome. what i like a lot is there is cross platform communication. i can talk to a buddy who has a PS3 in a party chat(i think, haven't tested it) as well as play games like DC universe Online that support cross platform servers. your buddies don't necessarily need a PS4 to play games with you and that is just awesome. graphics are great of course. the controller is leaps and bounds better than the PS3. i have small snorlax hands and the Dual shock 3 would dig into my palms and just wasn't that comfortable to use. the dual shock 4 is just so comfortable and the triggers and bumpers just feel more solid and the joysticks have that ridge now to keep your fingers from slipping off! as per usual most of the "issues" i've encountered are minor and blown out of proportion by fanboys. so fear not if you wish to pick one up but, maybe wait a couple more weeks haha.

if any of you guys have PSN it'd be cool to add you, PM me your name and i'll send a request! :D

with that out of the way i'm going to go crawl back into my gunpla cave lol.

Sounds like a good plan. We were trying to find a copy of Killzone 4 since I'm a big fan of the series, but none of the pertinent stores had them (discounting Gamestop since we want to avoid buying from them). I think I saw some pics of Destiny and it did look incredible. Might be on the buy list for us too, haha.

Destiny = a shooter by Bungie available on a non-Microsoft platform = must buy. I'm not the biggest shooter fan around, but I'll make an exception for Destiny.

i thought about buying killzone but, i've never played any of the other ones. might have to pick it up.

definitely. i'm glad they handed over the reins of halo to 343 so they could move on to bigger and better IPs.

I've watched a few vids of those Speed Grades, they're fairly interesting little kits. Great find on the SD Kshatriya.

really liked the speed grade super quick, i opted not to add any more detailing but, with some minor lining and painting of the knee joints it would be a really detailed kit. building the SD kshatriya and contemplating paint it the same colors as my custom kshatriya what do you guys think? although i won't be able to paint for a while... thanks east coast winters lol

I think it would look cool painted either way. Though it would be pretty neat to have the large 1/144 scale version sitting next to it's "mini me" version. lol

I also think having the SD painted with the same scheme as your Grim Reaper Kshatriya will make for a pleasant display. I don't know, it just seems like it will be cute to look at, haha.

just thought i'd let you guys know i'm taking a hiatus from building for a while. for those that remember the question i asked on gunpla.tv about gunpla withstanding 122 F, this has everything to do with that issue... my life is dissolving because of it and i can't build if i'm constantly filled with anxiety and paranoia. so i'm taking some time away from building to try and attack this head on... or no lets be honest... i actually don't know what i'm going to do. i just know i have about 85% of my life packed into plastic boxes sealed with tape right now. anyways i wrote this just so you guys didn't think i just up and left without so much as a good bye or a be right back haha. i appreciate all the encouragement from you guys and seeing your builds. i'll still be following your builds, i just have to put mine on hold for a while.

whats up guys a little update post Heat treatment. long story short, it didn't work (i got bit on my face! this morning)... honestly contemplating selling my beloved S4 to pay for a fumigation of the house.

however that isn't the reason i'm posting. this update concerns Gunpla's ability to survive temps in excess of 122 F and i'm here to tell you the paint AND the gunpla itself will not be harmed by temps up to around 140 F(thats the highest my room got to). i think this is due to the fact that its hot circulating air verses just a straight single source of heat (like a soldering iron etc). i sacrificed a beat up HG blue frame accidentally and after 8 hours of temps exceeding 122 F it was fine and so was the bits of paint on the knees, no melting, no chipping. all was fine. (although it didn't have any decals so i'm going to say that might be the only issue that might arise). anyways i just thought i'd let you guys know on the HORRIBLE HORRIBLE off chance one of you may have to go this route.

so i'm still alive, been peeking though here to see what you guys have been up to (stalker mode haha) figured i'd show something that i am kind of working on.

so i thought to myself "before i work on anything new i should finish sword impulse at least" so i took some paint and .... well the armor came out looking like the same color of my skin all pink/tan kind of. not fitting for a robot imo. so i stripped it... during the stripping i lost the cockpit door sooo i said to myself "ok lets make this a battle damaged kit" but, as always i took it too far and here i am lol.

8553855485558556

think of getting some add on vents and stuff, attempting to add panel lines. i'm trying to go for a "pieced together with leftovers" look. calling it "The abandoned" a mech that lives in a world where most have been destroyed/outlawed and all that jazz. any advice and opinions are welcomed with open arms as i think i've been off more than i can chew and its too late to go back now seeing as i already choped the chest piece in half in that last picture.

yup, i'm trying to go for a super damaged but, slightly repaired look. like the pilot has fixed what he could with what he has laying around. i think i want to order some option parts just not sure which ones. i want to add some extra vents and panel lines. then its dremel time. been a while since i brought it out, hope i can actually stay a while this time!
