Hey guys I have a 1/100 NG Zaku Warrior and I have been designing what I call the GN Zaku.
Literally it has a GN drive and an Exia Style GN Blade. Does anyone have some good Ideas on how I could transfuse the GN drive and blade into the Zaku??? Any suggestions are welcome!
Also I plan on changing the color scheme to Blue and black. What can I say? I'm a sucker for the Gouf custom colors.

Depends on the shape of the drive you're using - are you taking one from another kit or making one from scratch? I actually plan on eventually doing similar with a Providence, though if I do 1/100 scale like I plan, I'll likely have to make a drive out pla-plate.

If you explain your plans to someone at your local hobby shop, they should be able to get you going in the right direction.

We don't have a hobby shop around here, but courtesy of Silverframe I have a 1/100 Astraea GN Drive (it's the same one on the NG 1/100 Exia) I was thinking of using a drill to place the holes in the back and then modify the wizard packs to fit around the GN drive

I'd like to suggest sticking the final product's GN sword into a Kira suit.

Ya know what Zeta? I think just for you I might pick up a 1/144 fg Freedom and do that. Just for you.

Oh man. I am really excited to see the result of this kit mate.

The next kit get is gonna be that astray though.

If you were to do that, you'd be awesome in my book. Nothing like Kira bashing to bring folks together... :D

But...but...I love Kira. Kira is my favorite, forever. Kira was just so win.

Ok I lie, that's total bullcrap haha.

Just to irk you mate.

Kira was fine until Lacus corrupted him in SEED.

Not going to lie. I really love Freedom and Strike Freedom. I've never watched Seed, though, so I have no idea what the characters are like.

Also, this GN Zaku thing sounds bad-ass.

Seed Wasn't a bad story and I thoroughly enjoyed it, minus the Kira Bit. I just wish they had made Shinn like Kamille from Zeta. Then it would've been REALLY awesome.

And I really Can't wait to get this project underway. I just need that GN Blade and a few more parts and then I can begin.

I've watched SEED to the extent that my sources could allow me.
I'm going to find another streaming site T_T"

The Freedom is a gorgeous machine no question there. In my opinion though, the Strike Freedom is overkill.

I always hated the Strike Freedom.

If they had done the following it probably would've been better:

Gave it sleek design, darkened the colors a bit, removed most of it's beam spamming abilities, gave it a rifle over that weird combination gun, and gave it a new pilot.......

Ya know what? Let's just forget about the Strike Freedom.

Well, my first experience with Strike Freedom was painting a HG 1/144 for a friend. It was a thoroughly enjoyable job. Plus, I got to keep it's nice ice blue beam saber beams in trade for normal ones, which I then gave to my GM Striker.

Okay so I have two positions for the GN Drive, which looks better? (sorry about bad pic quality, was using webcam and not my good camera)

The top picture is more in line with how GN drives are usually attached.

October 23, 2010, 7:05 AM
Which is why you should put it like it is in the 2nd pic. It's a Zaku, they're not supposed to be like everything else

GNzaku0023
October 23, 2010, 10:30 AM
This is very true, and on top of that it would require a lot less modding on the Wizard packs in order to fit around the GN Drive. I think I might just work with the second one.

SilverFrameAstray
October 24, 2010, 8:51 PM
It looks better at the second picture mate, I mean 00 didn't have the drives put on traditionally.

squeam
October 26, 2010, 6:08 AM
Ha! That's true. Maybe you could like put it on the ankles or something-that would be one of the only places they didn't put a GN Drive in 00 :P

GNzaku0023
October 26, 2010, 10:56 AM
That's very true. However, I've decided on the latter of the two pictures. Now I need that GN Blade and the second shoulderpad/shield to complete the construction.

GNzaku0023

Custom Zaku Completed.....well....sorta. I still have a lot I want to do, however for now it's got the general Idea.

Anyways, to start I decided to place the GN drive on the bottom vent, giving it that non-traditional look, and allowing me to still use the wizard packs.
103_0747.jpg[/attachment:1ictwoa7]

Next was trying to do the GN Blade, which took me forever to actually decide on how I was going to mount it.
Eventually I pulled my courage and drilled a hole into the arm for the support piece. I continued from there with a razor blade and carved out a rectangle to fit it. Unfortunately, I had made the hole larger than I wanted to, and I was forced to glue the GN-Blade in place so it would stay balanced.
103_0754.jpg[/attachment:1ictwoa7]

So after that was dry, you get the "finished" product, a very bad ass looking Zaku. I do plan on painting the kit and have a few more parts to attach, but for now this is the general concept.

I'm going to probably paint it in my Arctic Warfare Gouf Custom Color Scheme, and I found out something verrrrrrrryyyy interesting just now. All I have to say is: "Wings"

That arctic Gouf color scheme was nice; your GNzaku should look nice in those colors.

Here's what the paint should hopefully look like in comparison to the gouf:

So I've begun painting, to start, here's my workplace:
103_0765.JPG[/attachment:3fu8uqjh]

Here's the paint I'm using. I know, I know, acrylic is not the best to use on models, however, given the fact that the only model paint otherwise would be testors, and there are a few reasons I won't use it. 1: The only available testors is glossy, and I hate gloss. 2: It's expensive, and I'm running on a bit of a budget. 3: Even though acrylic needs a ton of coats, it has a nice, rich, flat look to it.
I will be using a sealant to help keep the paint in good shape.
103_0767.JPG[/attachment:3fu8uqjh]

In order to make sure I got perfect lines, I went with painter's tape along edges. That was very time consuming.

After about 4 coats of blue, it's finally beginning to look like the actual color.

Here's the shield and feet almost done:

Here's the main body. I think the gray came out really well...still need to finish the back inner collar:

Ladies, Gentlemen, boys and girls.... I proudly present to you, The GN-Zaku!!!!!!
There are a ton of pictures I've taken for this and I'm so proud of how this turned out. I've been painting this all day, and finally it's done. I began to design this back in August, and after all that time I finally had collected all of the parts I needed to complete this masterpiece. I'd like to thank Silverframeastray for providing the GN-Drive, and all of you for your helpful advice along the way!
Please enjoy this mon-toge of epicness.

Starting off, this is right after the initial painting was completed:

I just don't think Wing Zero's angel wings match the vibe of the Zaku. Perhaps Destiny's or Freedom's would look better, but I don't really know...

Side note: as for the 300 posts... Been there, done that... 8-)

I think he looked really beastly with the wings on since they were not over sized. The finished product looks awesome GNZ! Bring it over next time so I can take a better look. You should totally do a review on him and put that piece of paper as the box!

Honestly, I like the wings. They're a nice touch and are just the right size, not too small or large with a good shape to them.

I love your weathering mate. Excellent stuff here. It's gorgeous.
