Hi guys.

I'd like to share my WIP as of this moment.
I am currently kitbashing an SD and HG version of the Astray RF to make it look similar to the Converge proportions.

Here's where I'm at as of this moment. :)

Okay, this is awesome! I love SD stuff, but there are times where I wish I had just a bit more articulation, and what you've done definitely works toward finding a happy medium :D I can't wait to see this thing finished!

Thanks comrade! :)

I'll post updates regularly. I do hope I can give the kit more articulation but sadly, due to its size, that's the most it can have. :D

Well done.
But this kit is obviously/glaringly different from what I've seen so far.

The legs are fairly too long.

Very nicely done sir. Would be nice if Bandai took some direction from you and started giving us SD kits that are up to this kind of standard.

Deathscythe: Sir, I had to choose between the chibi look or the articulation. I went for the articulation that's why the legs are a bit longer than usual. :)

thwalker13: Thanks comrade. I'm currently in my WIP area working on it again. I can't say it's perfect but then, it's my practice kit. :)

I've got some suggestion to make :

How about us both assembling HG Red astray together ? :3

Thank you Sir RX-78-2! :)

Deathscythe, how do we go about it? Man, we live continents apart. :D

Work kept me busy these past days. Anyway, here's what I've been doing so far.

http://i1060.photobucket.com/albums/t443/yoshkikkawa/th_IMG00660.jpg (http://s1060.photobucket.com/albums/t443/yoshkikkawa/?action=view&current=IMG00660.jpg)
I shortened and cleaned up the Gerbera and the scabbard.

http://i1060.photobucket.com/albums/t443/yoshkikkawa/th_IMG00674.jpg (http://s1060.photobucket.com/albums/t443/yoshkikkawa/?action=view&current=IMG00674.jpg)
I started doing the putty work and some sanding. :)

http://i1060.photobucket.com/albums/t443/yoshkikkawa/th_IMG00676.jpg (http://s1060.photobucket.com/albums/t443/yoshkikkawa/?action=view&current=IMG00676.jpg)
I wanted more articulation for this kit so here's a ball joint for the waist.

http://i1060.photobucket.com/albums/t443/yoshkikkawa/th_IMG00677.jpg (http://s1060.photobucket.com/albums/t443/yoshkikkawa/?action=view&current=IMG00677.jpg)
Here's another ball joint...

http://i1060.photobucket.com/albums/t443/yoshkikkawa/th_IMG00678.jpg (http://s1060.photobucket.com/albums/t443/yoshkikkawa/?action=view&current=IMG00678.jpg)
I used it to extend the neck. I think i need to trim it down a bit. I might add some details on the kit's nape to hide that thin peg whenever the head is tilted down. :D

Here's the kit's size compared to my hand.

I'm happy with the proportions so I'm going to try it on another kit.
The next to get the converge treatment: The grandaddy of all Gundam.

There wont be any beam toothpicks in this kit. Clear sabers! :D

Thank heavens there's been no rain lately. So far, I was able to finish painting, top coating, and decaling some parts.

I'm amazed at those that work with SD's. To apply effort to such a miniscule model... it's just awesome. Keep going comrade, you're almost there!

Thank you comrade. I don't know what got me into this scale. I have MG's but I havent painted any of them yet.

And as for this build, realized I need to improve on my painting skills next. :))))

Making the paint cure slowed me down. :)

The katana: 80% complete. All i need is to apply clear yellow on some parts and graphite powder on the blade.

http://i1060.photobucket.com/albums/t443/yoshkikkawa/th_IMG00735.jpg (http://s1060.photobucket.com/albums/t443/yoshkikkawa/?action=view&current=IMG00735.jpg)
Masking. Time consuming but extremely important.

The hands! :) I separated the fingers. Now all they need is a decent paint job and maybe a decal or two. :D

I intend to take care of this one during the upcoming weekend myself.

I'm not really happy with the paint job. I might strip it someday and repaint.
But it's ok. I entered this in a local group competition and it won 10th place. Not bad for my first WIP.

Will upload action pose photos soon.

How do I attach the decals ?

I'm about to scratch the 3rd decal off, it's obliging, really really binding for me to keep it sticking.

You're being far too hard on yourself (which isn't necessarily a bad thing). Regardless of what you may feel about the paintjob, the fact is that this is an amazing kitbash, and I'm sure I'm not the only one who's eagerly anticipating to see what you do next :D

Thank you comrades.

Deathscythe: Are u using rub on or waterslide decals?

RX-78-2: I'm thinking of kitbashing an SD with an MG next time. :)

Chapel: Man, when I join the group competition, the judges easily noticed oversprays, not-so-clean seam lines, ugly panel lines and other flaws... Haha! I think my next build will be an HGUC Quebeley which I got as prize from the contest. Straight, good ol' clean build.

thwalker: I will post clear pics soon comrade. :D

Haha!

The champion was a modified MG Blitz. The modeller scratchbuilt an awesome 3-missile pod on its left shoulder. Plus the paint job was awesome.

The runner-up made a white MG Sinanju. Man, it really is pristine white. :)))

I want a better finish bro. When the judges checked the kit, the main concerns were oversprays, unclean panel lines, and some masking bleeds. :D

I rushed the kit to meet the contest deadline so that's why I made those mistakes. :)

As what I've said, I'm taking a break from major mods for a while. I wanna go for a straight build with minor mods.

Following the tips of some veterans during the competition, here's what I did: I sanded the "armpit" of the SD Z'Gok with 600, 1000, 1500, and 2,000 grit sand paper. :)
